[10 Aug 2012] International Al Quds day for Muslim unity - Islam And life - English
Every year on the last Friday of Ramadan, Muslims commemorate al-Quds day and show their solidarity with the people of Palestine. The Palestinian cause is an indisputable aspiration shared by almost every Muslim in the world, regardless of their national, lingual and sectarian diversities. Their wish to liberate Palestine and al-Quds from the Zionists goes beyond all their differences. This year's al-Quds day, in the aftermath of revolutions and political turbulences in the Muslim and Arab world, and in the prospect of sectarian conflicts and civil wars ignited by the western powers, is a unique opportunity to forget all differences, to use the spiritual and liberating experience of Ramadan and to come together as brothers and sisters.
Muslims traditionally tend to ignore the material life and worldly pleasures and to restrain themselves from any dispute during the month of Ramadan. This week's Islam and Life asks: How important is the international Al-Quds day for Muslim unity?

Egypt\'s public prosecutor orders the trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and more than 30 others on charges of espionage.
A statement from the prosecutor\'s office has accused Morsi of plotting with foreign organizations to carry out terrorist attacks in the country. The toppled leader is also accused of committing acts of violence in Egypt. Local media say the other defendants include former presidential aides and Muslim Brotherhood leaders, who will be standing trial along with him. Morsi is already on trial over alleged involvement in the killings of opposition protesters. He was ousted by the military in early July, about a year after taking office as Egytp\'s first democratically-elected president.

Six US troops were killed in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan this week. It\'s the deadliest day for US troops since a helicopter crash in 2012.
The crash is under investigation, but in a statement , the NATO coalition said there was no enemy activity at the time of the crash. The deadly crash comes as casualties in the war have dropped to some of their lowest levels in years. The latest total of US troop deaths according to USA Today is at 119 this year--down from 294 the year before. Critics say leaders in both countries are at fault. Helicopter crashes have have caused some of the largest U.S. death tolls in Afghanistan.

Gunfire broke out on as Palestinians marched to mark the 63rd anniversary of "Nakba Day" or the day of catastrophe.
Marching towards the Erez crossing, over 1000 Palestinians faced Israeli soldiers opening fire on them. Dozens of marchers were injured including a journalist who is in critical condition as they tried to return to their original homes in historical Palestine. In a prayer sermon, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyah continued to stress the importance of resistance against the Zionist regime.
Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians held a big rally in northern Gaza to protest the events in 1948 when their ancestors were pushed into exile and driven out of their towns and villages by Israel. These annual marches serve to remind and unite Palestinians as they struggle to cope with six decades of suffering.
Israel has prevented the return of Palestinian refugees, who were either displaced or dispossessed in 1948. After 63 years of displacement, Palestinians say they want the world to know that they will never give up the right of return to their homeland.
