As weather temperatures in Lebanon\'s Bekaa Valley continue to decrease, so does the living conditions for these Syrian refugees. Most of them live in overcrowded group housings, while others have set up makeshift tents constructed from items of debris such as dismantled billboards.

This year\'s Thanksgiving travel may not be easy for many Americans, with a winter-storm in the Southwest now heading to the US East Coast. Freezing temperatures have already brought snow, sleet and rain to the Southwest. At least 13 people died in storm-related incidents in Oklahoma, Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona over the weekend. Hundreds of flights have already been canceled. And forecasters are warning of more flight delays and icy roads as the storm\'s heading eastward, bringing heavy rain over the next two days. Millions of Americans are expected to hit the roads for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

A bruising winter storm has brought severe weather to the Middle East. The storm, dubbed Alexa, has already pounded much of Lebanon, Jordan and parts of northern Syria pushing temperatures below zero and dumping snow and heavy rains. Syrian refugees across the region are among the hardest hit by the storm.

People in the Gaza Strip are once again struggling to cope with electricity shortages during the cold winter season. This, due to Israel\\\'s refusal to allow fuel into the impoverished Palestinian territory.

These insects need extra energy in the winter in order to tolerate the cold weather. During the cold winters insects fast. Whilst migrating to the mountains, an important process takes place to make sure these insects are filled with fatty substances to keep them warm during the winter and provide energy whilst they fast. During the migration they abstain from drinking water so that the ratio of water reduces in their bodies and the free-water changes form into bound-water. The conversion of water to bound-water is really important because if it were not bound then at low temperatures the water content in their bodies would freeze and their bodies would also freeze. Animal Instincts Penguins Fast: Penguin is one of the sea birds that live in the cold regions. In fact, 17 species of penguin have been identified in the entire world. Only one of these species inhabits the North Pole territories while the remaining species are distributed widely in the Southern Hemisphere, extending along South Australia, Africa and America. These species differ totally in their way of laying and hatching eggs. As for those living in the Southern Hemisphere, they spend the winter there. When spring comes, they return in groups to their native land in the North Pole, covering a distance of hundreds of miles until they reach their destination and location for reproduction. Once arriving there, they start immediately building their nests out of stone pieces. It takes roughly three weeks from the time of their arrival to have completed building these nests and reproducing. Once the females have laid eggs, they go off seeking food in deep-sea oceans and the male penguins take on the task of brooding eggs. The male penguins have to remain in the state of fasting for two weeks until the chicks develop. When this happens, the male penguins rush to drink some sea water and take some food. There is another kind of penguin called "the Emperor" which does not build nests, instead they spends the winter in the North Frozen Zone where it lays its eggs. The mother lays the eggs on her own hind feet. Sometimes, the male penguin may relieve her and they remain in a state of fasting throughout the winter season. When spring comes, the ice melts and the eggs are incubated. When the young penguins grow up they start fasting and abstaining from food until their down falls out and their bodies are covered with feathers. Old penguins also observe fasting for another period that is sufficient to replace their old feathers with new feathers that are more glowing and flourishing. Once this happens they throw themselves into the sea happily as if they imitate the human beings when they wear new clothes on the coming of the Eid that comes after fasting in Ramadan. On Monday, Feb. 15th, Cinema du Parc received an email insisting that CJPME's Photo Exposition, Human Drama in Gaza, be immediately removed from the Cinema. The email was from a legal representative of Gestion Redbourne PDP Inc., the owners of the building housing Cinema du Parc. The Cinema has hosted dozens of expositions in the past three years, and this is the first time that such action has been taken. This move on the part of Redbourne seems entirely political, to muzzle the message of Human Drama in Gaza. On Monday, Feb. 15th, the critically acclaimed Human Drama in Gaza Photo Exposition in Montreal was threatened with closure by Gestion Redbourne PDP Inc., the real estate management firm owning the property housing the Exposition. A legal representative of Redbourne, Lieba Shell, sent an email late in the day to the exposition host, Cinema du Parc, ordering the removal of the exposition and threatening legal action if the exposition were not taken down by evening. Cinema du Parc and Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) – the producer of the exposition – asserted through their legal advisor, Mark H. Arnold, that such threats from Redbourne were not lawful. Human Drama in Gaza was launched in mid-January, and received very positive reviews in several media. Redbourne, however, demanded the removal of the exposition based on a paragraph in the lease that Cinema du Parc has with Redbourne relating to “purely cinemagraphic use” of the premises. Arnold, however, asserted that the cinema’s hosting of a photo exposition would very much constitute cinemagraphic use of the premises. Officials with Cinema du Parc also pointed out that the cinema has hosted dozens of photo expositions in the past several years, and has never had a complaint from Redbourne, the landlord. “This move on the part of Redbourne is clearly political,” declared Thomas Woodley, President of CJPME. “Cinema du Parc is known for its ongoing expositions which touch on important issues of social concern, and Redbourne never had an issue in the past.” Last week, both Cinema du Parc and Place du Parc (the shopping mall housing the cinema and owned by Redbourne) received emails and calls from individuals unhappy with the Human Drama in Gaza exposition. The complaints accused the exposition of being anti-Israel, but stopped short of questioning the credibility of the exposition content. “The suffering of the 1.5 million people of Gaza is an important social issue like any other,” asserted Woodley. “The fact that certain people wish to stifle open discussion on Gaza is even more a reason to bring the debate out into the open.” According to CJPME, the exposition itself seeks to put a human face to the misery of the people of Gaza, and the poignant resilience of a people facing severe adversity. The captions accompanying the photos cite statistics and legal analyses of Israel’s 22-day assault on Gaza of last winter. The legal advisor to CJPME pointed out that if security forces from Redbourne were to attempt to forcibly remove the exposition, they would be considered trespassers. Transcript: "Named for its orange tint and large bushy tail, the fox squirrel is the largest tree squirrel native to North America. It is mainly found in the eastern United States and southern Canada excluding New England with introduced populations in several western states. They thrive in open areas with trees like oak, hickory, walnut and pine that produce food that can be stored for the winter. They primarily depend on tree seeds for food, but when that is scarce they will turn to other sources like buds, fruits, grain and insects. They hide small caches of nuts in dispersed locations and come back to retrieve them in the winter. Unretrieved nuts are left to germinate and form new trees. Fox Squirrels are dirurnal which means they are active during the day and rest at night. They spend more time on the ground than most tree squirrels, but are still very agile climbers."
