The United Nations is warning that it\\\'ll investigate reports of crimes against humanity in South Sudan. The warning comes after eyewitnesses unveiled a wave of brutal ethnic killings. UN chief Ban Ki-moon says all those responsible for the killings will face the consequences. He has asked the Security Council to nearly double the size of the UN mission in South Sudan. Since nearly a week ago, the country has been hit by deadly fighting between government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president, Riek Machar. According to official estimates, 500 people have lost their lives in the week long conflict. But independent sources believe the real figure to be higher.

The United Nations is warning of a looming catastrophe in Somalia, where every third child is suffering from acute malnutrition because of drought and hunger. The countryside is barren, and thousands of nomads are crossing the country on foot to get aid in Mogadishu, the capital, as the Horn of Africa region faces its worst drought in six decades. Temperatures are expected to rise which will make firefighting more difficult. Hot and dry winds are also expected to intensify in the coming days. The bushfires that started on Thursday have caused massive damage in the Blue Mountains area. More than 200 homes have been destroyed and thousands of people forced out of their their homes. Firefighters say this is the most serious wildfire emergency in 40 years.

UN officials are calling on Israel to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip. They\'re warning that the situation in the Palestinian territory may get even worse. The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says the Israeli blockade has paralyzed Gaza\'s construction industry. Robert Turner also said that the demolition of tunnels used by Gazans to transfer goods and construction materials to the enclave has put U-N projects on hold. This, after Egyptian authorities also stepped up the destruction of the tunnels in recent months. Meanwhile, another U-N official, James Rawley has also waned about the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory over a lack of fuel there. Gaza\'s fuel crisis has led to the closure of its main power plant in recent months. Israel imposed its all-out land, aerial, and naval blockade on Gaza in June 2007 after the victory of Hamas in elections there.

The United Nations is warning about the dreadful and cruel condition of Syrian refugee children who have fled the conflict at home country. According to the U-N refugee agency, the U-N-H-C-R, hundreds of thousands of Syrian children, already traumatised by war, are facing a catastrophic life in exile. The report is the result of the testimonies of refugee children across Jordan and Lebanon, gathered over four months. It says many of these kids are without education and forced to work long hours for low pay. Now more than a million Syrian children are refugees, most of them in neighboring countries.

US officials are warning that American nationals fighting alongside foreign-backed insurgents in Syria will pose a security threat to their home country in the future. This, as Washington still continues to support the insurgents fighting to topple the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Tensions are also rising in other part of the country. South Sudan has been witnessing deadly violence after President Salva Kiir accused former vice president Riek Machar of trying to launch a coup. Machar who was sacked in July has denied the accusations. Based on U-N figures, up to 500 people have been killed and 800 others wounded since the violence broke out on Sunday.

US President Barack Obama has repeated his warning that any new sanctions against Iran would derail the talks to resolve the issue over the country\\\'s nuclear program. But his remarks appear to be falling on deaf ears on Capitol Hill. Recently the Senate began moves to expedite a vote on a bill that would impose new anti-Iran sanctions.
