The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the case of an Iraqi woman beaten to death in her Southern California home. The El Cajon Police Department says the FBI is providing assistance as it investigates the death of Shaima Alawadi and whether her death was a hate crime. The mother of five had suffered multiple blows to the head with a large object. Police say her 17-year-old daughter discovered her in the kitchen on Wednesday, along with a threatening note. Hanif Mohebi is executive director of the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Mohebi says the family had received another threatening note but had dismissed it as a prank. Alawadi\'s daughter has said that the note called her mother a terrorist and demanded she go back to her country. Mohebi says the family remains in a state of shock. Mohebi says for right now, family members are choosing not to speak to the media. A family friend says he believes the reports that Alawaidi’s death is a hate crime. El Cajon is located about 2 hours south of Los Angeles. The city has America’s second largest community of Iraqis, behind Michigan. But police say the beating is an isolated incident and the community shouldn’t feel targeted. Muslim leaders say the beating follows several months of increased reports of hate crimes in the San Diego area. They say the community needs to be vigilant in reporting any kind of threat or violence against them. Police say they have no suspects or persons of interest in this case. They have not confirmed whether any fingerprints were found on the note left at the crime scene.

[19 May 2012] 'UN observers in Syria cannot be trusted - News Analysis - English Two failed US-backed Security Council resolutions vetoed by Russia and China, promised reforms by Damascus, a new constitution, Kofi Annan's 6-point peace plan followed by a fragile cease-fire and a flock of UN observers and most recently multi party parliamentary elections, all of those have been decisive factors over the past year or so in Syria. But is the Syrian solution gradually turning into the Syrian conundrum as the U-S and its Arab allies are arming groups fighting the government with significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks?

Damascus says it holds "armed groups" responsible for the recent deadly clashes in the western town of Houla that killed 108 people, including at least 49 children. The fighting between Syrian forces and armed groups in Houla comes despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 12. The UK foreign secretary said there could be "chaos and civil war" if the peace plan is not implemented. [05 June 2012] Clashes continue in Northern Lebanon - English A day of mourning in the Northern Lebanese city of Tripoli following clashes described as the deadliest in decades. 15 people killed and tens wounded after rival pro and anti Syrian Lebanese groups faced off for the second time in less than a month. Despite a cautious calm following two days of warfare, life was far from normal in the neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab -Al-Tabaneh. Most shops remain closed and tensions remain high between the Allawite pro-Syrian and Sunni anti-Syrian neighborhoods. With each side blaming the other for instigating the violence, sectarianism has reached its peak and hence the worse is probably yet to come.

[03 July 2012] Saudi Arabia invested in Syria crisis - English UN human rights chief Navi Pillay says the flow of arms into Syria is "fueling the violence" in the Arab country, calling for an end to the militarization of the ongoing conflict. Pillay did not specify where the arms are coming from, but UN diplomats believe that Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been supplying weapons to the armed Syrian rebels. The UN official claimed that the situation in Syria is "a non-international internal armed conflict," the legal term for a civil war, saying "there is a risk of escalation." While the West and the Syrian opposition say the government is responsible for the killings, Damascus blames "outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups" for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. [03 July 2012] West must condemn Israeli barbarism - English Human rights group B'Tselem has uploaded a video showing Israeli police officers brutally attacking a Palestinian child, providing more evidence of Israeli violence against Palestinian children. The video shows a border policeman apprehending a nine-year-old boy, identified as Abd al-Rahman Burkan, and knocking him to the ground while the child shouts, near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) in the south of the occupied West Bank on June 29. [10 July 2012] NATO after regime change in Syria Webster Griffin Tarpley - English NATO is not after a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis but wants there to be "continuing violence and civil war" ultimately leading to an armed attack followed by "regime change," says an analyst. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned Russia and China over their support for Syria, saying they "will pay a price" for their actions. During a so-called "Friends of the Syrian People" meeting in Paris on Friday, Clinton launched a scathing attack on Moscow and Beijing and called for imposing pressure against both nations to drop their support for Damascus. "I do not believe that Russia and China are paying any price at all - nothing at all - for standing up on behalf of the [Syrian President Bashar] Assad regime." "The only way that will change is if every nation represented here directly and urgently makes it clear that Russia and China will pay a price," Clinton warned. [30 July 2012] West provoking civil war in Syria Jonathan Steele - English Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 and many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil. The Syrian government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings. The anti-Syria Western regimes have been calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, but Russia and China remain strongly opposed to the Western drive to oust Assad. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 28, "Our Western partners... together with some of Syria's neighbors are essentially encouraging, supporting and directing an armed struggle against [the Syrian government]." [14 Aug 2012] West not after democracy in Syria Bill Jones - English Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Hamed Hassan says Damascus welcomes "rational talks" with the opposition, provided that they are held under the supervision of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Hassan further warned against plots hatched by foreign powers, including certain regional and Western countries, to cause instability in Syria, saying not only would such efforts threaten the security of the Arab state, but are "a serious threat to the security and peace of the region and certain neighboring countries in particular." The Syrian envoy further added that continuation of the plots to incite instability in the country can even pose "a serious threat to Arab countries not neighboring Syria". Syria, which has been experiencing unrest since last year, has repeatedly said that weapons used by armed groups fighting against the government of Bashar al-Assad are being smuggled into the country from Turkey and Lebanon. Damascus has also accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar, of fueling unrest in the country by funding and arming the anti-Syria gunmen. Syria has been the scene of deadly unrest since mid-March, 2011 and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the violence. Call on the United Nations to: • Deploy an international panel of observers to monitor the volatile region. • Investigate human rights abuses and the murder of innocent Muslims in Burma. 3. Direct Canada's Department of External Affairs to urge the Bangladeshi government to: • Open Bangladesh borders to the Rohingyas fleeing sectarian violence and abuses by the Burmese security forces in Arakan State in western Myanmar. • Immediately lift restrictions on international organizations providing aid to more than 200,000 Rohingyas in Bangladesh. The Rohingya Association of Canada demands the following from the Burmese Government: 1. Independent international commission of inquiry must be allowed to probe current Arakan crisis and bring the perpetrators to justice. 2. Allow international relief organizations to provide open access to the region and distribute urgently needed humanitarian aid to the victims. 3. Provide security for the Rohingya who are at the mercy of Rakhine extremist elements and the racist security forces. 4. Allow fair and balanced coverage of the situation by the mainstream media. 5. Repeal the unjust 1982 Citizenship Law that aimed to cleanse Rohingya from Arakan and Burma, and restore their full rights as Burmese citizens as it was before 1962 6. Government & International Organization should help rebuild the houses, businesses and places of worship of the Rohingyas. 7.
