Opposition to the U-S assassination drone strikes is growing across the globe. The Washington-based Pew Research Centre, which carried out a survey on the issue in 39 countries, has found out that half or more than half of the respondents in 31 of these countries disapprove of U-S drone attacks. The research shows that in most of the countries polled, there continues to be an extensive opposition to the American drone campaign in countries such as Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.

A heartbreaking documentary by filmmaker and journalist Ziad Zafar on the disappeared people in Pakistan. Timely and to the point. Points to the two major factors that determine Pakistani politics - the American geo-strategic interests and the politico-economic interests of the military establishment. Important to note that religious extremism and sectarianism in Pakistan have always been the function of these two factors. The American selfish interests in the region and the failure of political process since the establishment of Pakistan are the real causes behind religious extremism. Busharrafs war on terror is failing. This war is itself a form of and a cause of growing terrorism in the region. Those individuals involved in militant organizations and terrorist activities should be brought to justice. But it should be done through given constitutional and criminal procedures instead of extra-judicial kidnappings and killings. Because illegitimate and unpopular power has its own logic. It does not distinguish between one type of body from the other - one type of citizen from another - militant or otherwise - when it comes to the question of preserving itself. Or the list also includes the Baloch the Muhajir the Pashtoon the Sunni the Shia the Liberal the Human Rights Activist and the Journalist.

Rehn believes that "default or disintegration" would likely cause much greater pain for Europe's citizens than further unpopular austerity and reforms, as it "would lead to terrible depression in Europe and around the world." The extraordinary revelation this week that the Internal Revenue Service targeted tea party groups for more aggressive enforcement highlights exactly why caution is needed in any response to the much-vilified Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC. Responding to a flurry of complaints from conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, the Internal Revenue Service admitted Friday it made \"mistakes\" in the last few years while trying to process those requests. Multiple tea party groups reported significant delays and excessive questioning from IRS officials while trying to obtain 501(c) (4) status. It also shows how all Americans, from the most liberal to the most conservative, should closely guard their First Amendment rights, and why giving the government too much power to limit political speech will inevitably result in selective enforcement against unpopular groups. While Lois Lerner, a senior official at the IRS, apologized on Friday for these unconstitutional practices, which are as unseemly as the Bush administration\'s targeting of the NAACP and the House of Representatives\' defunding of Planned Parenthood on purely political grounds.

In Pakistan\'s eastern city of Lahore, thousands have staged a protest against the US drone strikes in the country. Some five-thousand people attended the rally organized by a coalition of around 40 religious and political parties also known as Defense of Pakistan Council. They chanted anti-US slogans and called for an immediate end to the drone strikes. The protesters also called for blocking NATO supplies for Afghanistan which goes through Pakistan. The U-S drones strikes are highly unpopular in Pakistan. Activists say the US drone operations have killed thousands of civilians and injured many more. Washington claims its drone strikes mainly target militants.

A new opinion poll shows that most Americans disapprove of their country\'s invasion of Afghanistan. According to the Associated Press poll, 57 percent of Americans said the U-S move was wrong in the first place. 53 percent of the respondents also said the pace of U-S withdrawal from Afghanistan is too slow. The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in the wake of the nine-eleven attacks of 2001 in New York. At least three-thousand-four-hundred and four foreign troops have so far been killed in the country, nearly 23-hundred of them are American. Other polls have also shown in recent years that the war is one of the most unpopular US military expeditions abroad in American history.
