Iran unveils home-built combat drone, Iran unveils its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle UAV in a ceremony marking Defense Industry Day in the country. The unveiling of the home-made drone, named Karrar took place in the presence of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of defense officials. The Karrar UAV is capable of carrying a military payload of rockets to carry out bombing missions against ground targets. It is also capable of flying long distances at a very high speed. Iran's defense industries have demonstrated spectacular progress in the recent year, launching numerous domestically-built armaments, including aerial and sea-borne military vehicles such as submarines, combat frigates, and various types of missiles. Iran inaugurated the production line of two domistically-built UAVs with bombing and reconnaissance capabilities. The two hi-tech drones named 'Ra'd' (Thunder) and 'Nazir' (Harbinger) are capable of performing long-range reconnaissance, patrolling, assault and bombing missions with high precision. Ra'd, a UAV especially designed for assault and bombing missions, has the capability to destroy specific targets with high precision. Tehran established an arms development program during the 1980-88 war that Iraq waged against Iran to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the US and its Western allies. Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Iran successfully tested a home-made radar-evading UAV with bombing capabilities in June 2009. In 2008, the Islamic Republic's Defense Industries launched production lines of two home-built fighter jets, namely Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) and Azarakhsh (Lightening).

From presstv - A political analyst says the Syrian government has the legal right to target the US military and intelligence drones operating over Syria, Press TV reports. “Syria has the right to use military capability to disturb this mission and even to attack those aircraft,” said Hisham Jaber, the director of Center for Middle East Studies in an interview with Press TV on Saturday. He made the comment after NBC News claimed earlier that the US military has dispatched a “good number” of unmanned drones for operations in Syrian airspace to monitor “the Syrian military attacks against opposition forces and civilians.” “They [the Syrian government] can sue them [the US] before the international court,” Jaber added. Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Hundreds of people, including many Syrian security forces, have been killed in the course of the turmoil. Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. [23 June 2012] Iranian president in Venezuela to boost bilateral ties - English Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warmly greeted his close ally Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the presidential palace in Caracas. The Iranian leader arrived in Venezuela's capital from stops in Brazil, where he attended the United Nations Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro, and Bolivia.Chavez and Ahmadinejad vowed to keep building closer ties. The Venezuelan president has expressed solidarity with Iran on its nuclear energy program which Iran insists it's for peaceful purposes. Caracas and Tehran have signed an estimated five billion dollars worth of trade deals and accords since 2001 including construction projects, car factories and most recently an agreement for Caracas to manufacture unmanned aerial aircrafts better known as drones.The United States has looked at these accords with disapproval and last year put sanctions on Venezuela's state oil company for making deals with Iran's energy sector.Chavez criticized the sanctions against Iran and pledged to continue being Tehran's key ally in Latin America.This is President Ahmadinejad second visit to Venezuela this year. According to Hugo Chavez there have been more than 300 bilateral accords signed by both countries.

According to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the killings of US-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, his 16-year-old son Abdulrahman al-Awlaki and naturalized US citizen Samir Khan were unconstitutional, Reuters reported. The victims' relatives said that the three assassinations committed by the CIA violated US legal guarantees, including the right to due process. On January 31, President Obama confirmed that the US uses the unmanned drones in Pakistan and other countries. US President Barack Obama has defended his administration\'s use of drones as legal, effective, and just. \"We are at war with an organization that right now would kill as many Americans as they could if we did not stop them first. So this is a just war,\" Obama said in a major policy speech at Washington\'s National Defense University on Thursday. \"Our nation is still threatened by terrorists,\" he pointed out, noting that \"We must recognize however, that the threat has shifted and evolved from the one that came to our shores on 9/11,\" he said. The US president claimed the strikes have been effective in targeting militants and have made the United States a safer country. Obama outlined the legal guidelines surrounding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles to wage war in distant lands. \"I don\'t not believe it would be constitutional for the government to target and kill any U.S. citizen...Nor should any president deploy armed drones over US soil. But when a US citizen goes abroad to wage war against American and is actively plotting to kill US citizens...his citizenship should no more serve as a shield than a sniper shooting down an innocent crowd should be protected from a swat team,\" he said. On Wednesday, US Attorney General Eric Holder admitted for the first time that four US citizens were murdered in assassination drone attacks conducted by the CIA in Pakistan and Yemen since 2011.

A US unmanned aerial vehicle has crashed in eastern Afghanistan. The drone went down in Chaparhar-- a district in the center of Nangarhar province on Friday. A local official says the plane crashed because of technical problems. But the Taliban militants claim they shot it down. No casualties have been reported. Following the crash, American forces arrived at the site and took away the wreckage of the drone.

The chorus of opposition to US drone attacks is getting louder and louder in Yemen. The Yemeni parliament has banned the drone attacks in a symbolic vote. Anger has been on the rise at the US drone attacks in Yemen. The country has seen several protests against deadly raids by the unmanned aerial vehicles. Washington has stepped up its drone operations in Yemen in recent months. The attacks have killed many people. The US says it\\\'s targeting al-Qaeda linked militants. But many Yemenis call this a violation of their sovereignty. The American drone strikes have killed large numbers of people in other Muslims countries, including Pakistan. The United Nations has condemned the US for using its drones for what the world body calls targeted killings.

A U-S drone has crashed in Afghanistan\\\'s eastern Nangarhar province. Shortly after the incident, Taliban militants arrived at the site and took away the crashed aircraft with them. The militants have claimed that they shot down the unmanned aircraft. U-S forces have also been deployed in the area searching for the drone. The U-S uses drones both for air strikes and reconnaissance operations. The attacks frequently cause civilian deaths in the war-torn country.
