Over the past two years, oil and gas pipelines in Yemen have come under repeated attacks, causing fuel shortages and slashing export earnings in the impoverished country. Yemen depends on oil exports for some 70 percent of government spending.

Yemeni tribesmen express support for army forces

Iraq\'s Defense Minister says the army along with Sunni tribesmen were able to gain full control of the city of Al-Bu Ali Jasim in Iraq\'s Northern Anbar province. Fierce clashes have been underway between Iraqi security forces and militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant there since late December. The Defense Ministry has issued a statement saying that Sunni tribesmen were a big help in the equation. Meanwhile, Iraq\'s capital Baghdad has been plagued with car bombs. The bombs have targeted heavily-populated areas and have killed at least 70 civilians this week alone. The Iraqi army has also claimed gains in the city of Sulaiman Bek. But the number of refugees from areas attacked by the militants keeps increasing with the UNHCR saying that over 300,000 refugees have fled the city of Fallujah and Ramadi in the Anbar province

Iraqi security forces backed by local tribesmen have killed at least 71 al-Qaeda-linked militants in the western province of Anbar. A tribal leader says the militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were killed during clashes in and near Ramadi. Clashes also took place in the nearby city of Fallujah. Officials say 32 civilians also died during battles in both cities in Anbar province. The security forces have managed to take control of more areas which had earlier fallen into the hands of militants. The unrest came after the removal of an anti-government protest camp in Ramadi on Monday. Authorities said the camp had been used by al-Qaeda-affiliated militants.

Iraqi troops have besieged Fallujah as they prepare for a major offensive to drive the militants out. But concerns about the lives of the city residents have complicated the operation. Meanwhile, Iraqi forces together with local tribesmen have reportedly taken control of 90 percent of the city of Ramadi in the same province. Local tribesmen have joined the army over the past week to reverse the surge of the al-Qaeda militancy. In the neighboring Babil province, government forces have arrested an al-Qaeda-linked leader and destroyed a militant camp in an airstrike.

A commander of the Iraqi commandos has described the clashes in Anbar province as heavy. The special forces were called in to restore security to Fallujah, as police were ordered to return to their headquarters. They\\\'re also being helped by local tribesmen. The al-Qaeda-linked militants are said to have half of Fallujah under their control. The western province of Anbar has been the scene of deadly violence since Monday after Iraqi security forces dismantled an anti-government protest camp in Ramadi. The government says the site had become a breeding ground for al-Qaeda-linked terrorists.

One of the members says a Saudi military official ordered him to carry out several attacks. Iraq has arrested a large number of insurgents during several operations recently. This comes as the Iraqi army and Sunni tribesmen continue their fight against ISIL militants. Iraq is experiencing its worst cycle of violence since 2008, with al-Qaeda-linked militants flexing their muscles on Baghdad\'s doorstep.

The militants are considered to be behind a surge of deadly violence across the country.
