A man held without charges since 2002 has committed suicide at the Guantanamo detention center, US military officials have revealed. Yemeni national Muhammad Ahmad Abdallah Salih was found "unresponsive and not breathing" when guards checked his cell Monday night, US Southern Command spokesman Jose Ruiz said in a statement. A prison physician pronounced the man dead after efforts to resuscitate him had failed. A man found innocent and subsequently released from Guantanamo Bay last year expounded on the situation at the notorious detention center in an interview with Press TV earlier in 2009. Binyam Mohamed -- a British citizen arrested in Pakistan in 2002 on suspicion of plotting a string of bomb blast in the US -- said that during the five years he spent at the detention center he was surreptitiously "tortured in medieval ways". "It is still difficult for me to believe that I was abducted, hauled from one country to the next and tortured in medieval ways. While I want to recover and put it all as far in the past as I can, I also know I have an obligation to the people who still remain in those torture chambers," he said. This is not the first time a Guantanamo detainee has ended his life. In a coordinated act of protest, three Guantanamo detainees hanged themselves with their sheets on June 10, 2006. Another prisoner killed himself in May 2007 by hanging himself with a noose made from bed linens. The death is expected to cause a new wave of criticism against the military prison, which Amnesty International calls the "the gulag of our times". "The cost of keeping Guantanamo open could not be clearer at a time like this, both for the men there and for the perception of the US in the world," says the Center for Constitutional Rights, which represents Guantanamo prisoners in habeas corpus cases. Thirty-three people have faced military court hearings in Bahrain despite the lifting of the martial law by the Al Khalifa regime earlier this year. The defendants are facing charges including trying to topple the Bahraini government. Those facing charges are two former lawmakers, Jawad Firouz and Matar Matar, along with a female poet. Press TV interviews Saeed al-Shahabi, a Bahraini opposition leader in London, as he shares his views on the Bahraini Prime Minister's trip to the United States, and the current situation taking place in the Middle Eastern country.

During times of deep trial, despair, and sadness, Muslims must seek comfort and guidance in the words of god in the Qur'an. God reminds Muslims that all people will be tried and tested in life, and calls upon Muslims to bear these trials with patient perseverance and prayer. But believers are called to put their trust in their Lord, and not to fall into despair or hopelessness. In the Qur'an, God has described Himself as: "The one who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed." The Holy Qur'an, (67:2) There are many versus that guide Muslims on how to respond to difficult situations when their faith and their belief are tested such as: Seek Allah's help with patient perseverance and prayer. It is indeed hard except for those who are humble." (2:45) 'To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.' They are those on whom descend blessings from their Lord, and mercy. They are the ones who receive guidance." (2:155-157) "Be patient, for your patience is with the help of Allah." (16:127) The killing of three Muslim men in Britain's recent unrest, revealed how a Muslim family uses these Islamic principles to overcome such a tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of Protesters gathered in Tahrir Square in another Friday Demonstration dubbed " saving democracy and handing over power", the days demonstration comes after the army-backed government proposed a supra-constitutional document which entailed privileges to the army regarding the privacy of its budget as well as stating that the army is protector of constitutional legitimacy, a clause many felt was paving the way for the army's intervention in state affairs even after handing power to a civilian government. A large number of Egypt's politcal forces from far left to right participated in the demonstration but the overwhelming majority belonged to islamic factions, most prominently the Muslim brotherhood who said that they will continue adding pressure on the military council till the proposed constitutional document is withdrawn and specific dates of the transition of power to a civilian government is set in place for no later than mid 2012. Another main demand for protesters was the immediate end to military trials for civilians. over 15,000 civilians have been trailed and are currently serving time in harsh military prisons, which is what propelled activists to launch a large campaign against these military tribunals that have been repeatedly used against those who oppose the ruling military council's political decisions. many of those in the square felt that the there was a sense of unity among protesters despite different political affiliations, they criticized the military council's performance during the transitional period which they felt was extremely poor with ordinary egyptians still feeling economic difficulties and suffering from security conditions which have not been restored to normal since police were forced to withdraw off the streets in late january. The proposal of the Supra-Constitutional document drove out hundreds of thousands of egyptians in protest in a seen reminiscent of the early days of the revolution and they say they will not leave till the document is withdrawn and a clear timetable to the transition of power is issued.

[25 July 2012] Morsi orders release of political prisoners - English It has become a tradition set in Egypt that at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan every year, the president announces a pardoning of prisoners. This year the newly elected president Mohamed Morsi issued a decree ordering the release of 572 civilians convicted in Military prisons.

Targeting of activists, who demand freedom and change, continues by the authorities in Bahrain. Scores of people remaining in prison or detained for opposing the government, including prisoners of conscience and people sentenced after unfair trials. Human rights defenders and other activists harassed and imprisoned. And people dying from inhaling teargas fired by Saudi-backed regime forces. In a fresh sign of its unrelenting crackdown, Bahrain\\\'s regime forces attack the funeral procession of a 31-year old man, Omran al-Seyed, who died after inhaling tear gas in the village of Karzakan. Regime forces tried to disperse mourners by firing tear gas and stun grenades. Bahrainis have been protesting against the Al Khalifah regime for over two years now. Manama has responded with an iron fist. Scores have been killed and many injured or arrested during the crackdown. The U.S. and its allies have turned a blind eye to the atrocity which has been facilitated by Saudi Arabia\\\'s intervention in Bahrain. In this edition of the Debate, we\\\'ll discuss Bahrain, including new developments, such as UK\\\'s arms sale, and why the international bodies and countries who promote democracy have failed to do anything about the cries coming from this tiny Persian Gulf Kingdom.

India has the worst record of crimes against women in the world even though many people do not report it to avoid public disgrace. The major cities of India are becoming increasingly unsafe for women, and the government seems to have failed to tackle the problem. The recent rape case that occurred in New Delhi was alarming to the Indian society. The criminals go without trials and the ultimate sufferers are women. On this week\'s INFocus we discuss the status of women in India and what measures the government has taken against the crimes as well as a review on the Indian legal system.

An international rights group has criticized Saudi Arabia for failing to address the dire human rights situation in the kingdom. Amnesty International says Riyadh has failed not only to implement any of recommendations by the UN Human Rights Council, but has increased the brutal repression of its own citizens. Amnesty International\'s regional director says a paper has been submitted to the UN rights body highlighting arbitrary arrests, detentions, unfair trials, torture and other ill-treatment in the oil-rich kingdom. Philip Luther has called on the international community to make the Saudi regime accountable for violating the rights of its minority Shia community and migrant workers. He says Shia Muslims are being targeted for participating in anti-government demonstrations and for views which are critical of the state. Amnesty has also condemned the systematic discrimination against women in the ultra-conservative kingdom-- including a ban on women driving.
