[10 July 2012] Israeli strikes killed 16 Palestinians in 1 week - English The Israeeli violence against the besieged Palestinians in Gaza saw a sharp increase recently. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, 16 Gazans including 4 children were killed and 73 were injured in only one week of Israeli airstrikes and tank shelling.

Israel fires at least 24 tank shells into Lebanese territories following a rocket attack in the north. The Israeli army says two Katyusha-style rockets launched from Lebanon landed near the town of Kiryat Shmona. In response, the Israeli artillery fired a barrage of shells into the Lebanese border region of Arqub. In both attacks, uninhabited areas were targeted, causing no injuries or damage. The area has remained mostly quiet since a month-long war in 2006 between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. A Saudi source says Saudi Arabia is in talks with Pakistan to provide Syrian insurgents with anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets. The source who is close to Saudi decision-makers referred to the recent meetings between Riyadh and Islamabad\'s high-ranking officials. Riyadh is seeking to provide the militants in Syria with Pakistan\'s version of Chinese shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles, known as Anza, and anti-tank rockets. The source also noted that Jordan will provide facilities to store the weapons before they are delivered to militants in Syria. The head of the Syrian National Coalition Ahmad Jarba said during a visit to northern Syria last week that powerful arms would be arriving soon.

GAZA (Reuters) - A Reuters cameraman was killed in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday in what appeared to have been an Israeli military strike. Fadel Shana, a 23-year-old Palestinian, was covering violence in the enclave for the international news agency. Two bystanders were also killed in an explosion after Shana stepped from his vehicle. His soundman escaped serious injury. Film from Shana's camera showed an Israeli tank stationed several hundred meters (yards) away firing a shell. The film then went blank, apparently at the moment Shana was hit. Earlier, local residents had said the explosion appeared to have been caused by an air strike. The Reuters vehicle, an unarmored sport utility vehicle bearing "TV" and "Press" markings, had just stopped and Shana got out to film, local residents said.

PA to renew Israeli talks without freeze Despite Israel's refusal to extend its settlement freeze, the Palestinian Authority (PA) will still resume the second round of direct talks with Tel Aviv. The upcoming meeting will be held at Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Tuesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and acting PA Chief Mahmoud Abbas held the first round of negotiations in Washington on September 2. Following the first meeting, Abbas warned that he would leave the negotiations should Israel resume its illegal settlement activities. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell will also travel to Egypt to attend the meeting. The four officials will then move to al-Quds (Jerusalem) for a second day of talks on Wednesday. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama will meet with Abbas and Netanyahu in New York next week during the UN General Assembly meeting. The second round of Israeli-PA talks comes after Israel on Monday approved the construction of more than 13,000 new settler units in the occupied West Bank. In November, the Israeli premier announced a 10-month freeze on illegal settlement expansion projects in the occupied West Bank. But Tel Aviv has repeatedly violated the freeze, which expires on September 26, by continuing to construct more settlement units. The Israeli military claimed Monday that the attack was in retaliation for mortar attacks by Hamas fighters on southern Israel. There have been no immediate reports of casualties, a Press TV correspondent reported. The raid came after an Israeli tank on Sunday killed three people in the town of Beit Hanoun. The Israeli violation of the coastal enclave comes after the Palestinian Authority engaged in direct talks with Tel Aviv. The incursion is in violation of a Palestinian demand for Israel's complete withdrawal behind the borders of 1967, when it captured Gaza, the West Bank and East al-Quds (Jerusalem). Gaza is still far from recovering from the Israeli war at the turn of 2009, which killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, most of them civilians. Fresh explosions and gunfire have been heard in Tripoli, as international coalition forces continue to bombard Libya. The country's government says further civilian casualties occured following a third day of allied air strikes. Meanwhile, troops loyal to the Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi are reportedly attacking rebel strongholds in the west. As the allied bombing of Libya enters day three, America is getting involved in another long-term war, which will ruin its economy. That's the opinion of Lew Rockwell, chairman of the U.S.-based Ludwig von Meezes Institute think tank.

[28 May 2012] \'West loses credibility on Syria\' - English Syria slams the wording of a United Nations Security Council statement on the recent massacre of civilians in the central town of Houla. Ja\'afari said the 15-nation council misinterpreted the words of the head of the UN mission in Syria, General Robert Mood. He was referring to a part in the statement that condemned the Syrian government for the artillery and tank shelling of a residential neighborhood in Houla. Ja\'afari said it was an interpretation of Western states such as Germany and the UK. He added that General Mood had said it was unclear how the mass killings had taken place and that the events needed to be investigated. The Security Council released the statement after an emergency session to discuss the Houla killings. Over one-hundred people were killed and three-hundred others wounded in the town on Friday.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, (IRGC) along with Aerospace Force have introduced a new laser beam guiding missile. The missile is has a range of 5 kilometers and is named Dehlaviye after the city where Mostafa Chamran an Iranian scientist who served as first Defense Minister of post-revolutionary Iran was martyred in the Iran-Iraq war. This new laser beam guided missile can target low flying objects and ground targets. Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahamd Vahidi told Press TV this latest laser technology has received international recognition and has put Iran amongst the few countries worldwide with the capability of producing such a device. Brig. Gen. Vahidi also explained that Iran is fully capable of defending itself against enemies. This latest product of Iran's military is that it is also an anti-armored missile with an anti-jamming station.

The Syrian army steps up its attacks against foreign-backed insurgents and their strongholds across the country. Army units ambushed militants of the Liwa\'a al-Islam, a brigade of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in Eastern Goutah, near the capital Damascus, killing scores of them. Syrian sources say many of the dead were foreign nationals. A large cache of weaponry including anti-tank missiles were also seized. Several militants of anther al-Qaeda-affiliated group known as Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were also killed in clashes with Syrian forces near Aleppo. Meanwhile, people in several towns across the Aleppo Province demonstrated against armed groups, demanding their pullout from civilian areas. Elsewhere, Kurdish fighters engaged in battles with insurgents in a town near Iraqi border.

Israeli soldiers have killed yet another Palestinian in the south of the besieged Gaza Strip. The Israeli army says soldiers opened fire at the Palestinian man, after he entered a forbidden security zone in the east of Khan Yunis. According to Palestinian Health Ministry sources, he was hit by Israeli tank fire. The military often targets Palestinians in the area. Tel Aviv has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, which has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.

UN human rights experts express serious concern about US drone attacks resulting in civilian casualties in Yemen. The UN special rapporteur on extra-judicial, summary or arbitrary executions says Yemen cannot accept violations of people\\\'s right to life. This, as the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture also says that deadly attacks on illegitimate targets amount to cruel or degrading treatment. According to the world body, 16 civilians were killed when two separate wedding processions were targeted by US drones in Yemen on December 12. The UN says the victims were mistakenly identified as al-Qaeda members. The US think tank, New America Foundation says about a hundred drone strikes have killed some 9-hundred people in Yemen since 2002.

A rocket has been fired from Gaza to Israel after Israeli forces shot and wounded a 16-year old Palestinian in the northern Gaza Strip. The rocket fell in an open area in Eshkol Regional Council. An explosion was reportedly heard in the nearby area but no injuries or damage has been reported. The missile came several hours after a Palestinian teen was shot in the leg in Jabalia. The Israeli military claims the teenager was seen damaging a fence. Attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinians have recently escalated. On Sunday, two people were wounded by Israeli tank shells in central Gaza.
