[07 Sept 2012] Syria today Explosions rock Damascus suburbs - English

The Syrian army continues mop-up operations against foreign-backed insurgents on the outskirts of the capital Damascus. Syrian troops have taken over key areas in the suburbs of the city of Adra near Damascus. A large number of militants have been killed during the operation. Adra has been the scene of atrocities against local residents after it was seized by the militants. The insurgents have committed a series of kidnappings and executions, especially targeting religious minority groups in the city over the past few days.

One day after a massive explosion which rocked the Beirut southern Suburbs, hundreds of thousands of Hezbollah supporters flocked to the southern village of Aita Shaab to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the end of the 2006 war. Hezbollah’s secretary general Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah uncovered during his televised speech on the occasion that Israeli-backed Takfiri groups are behind the bombing which occurred in the southern Suburbs last July, and several other attacks against the army and the Shia population in the Bekaa area. Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah will respond. The latest bombing has left some 24 people dead and over 100 injured. Observers believe that such acts are being facilitated by internal sides which are tools for the west and Israel: Sayyed Nasrallah noted that the Takfiri threat is against all of Lebanon and not only a certain sect. The leader of the resistance also warned Israel that it would be defeated by the resistance if it tried to enter Lebanese land again. Participanst from all over the Arab world attended the ceremony and stressed that the victory of 2006 was a victory for all Arabs and Muslims: The village of Aita Shaab was the stage of fierce fighting during the 2006 summer war, which Hezbollah and its supporters believe ended with a divine victory for the resistance on August 14th 2006.

The Syrian army has regained control of the southern suburbs of Damascus, flushing out insurgents from their strongholds. Mohamad Ali reports from the region.

Bahraini security forces have once again clashed with anti-government protesters in the suburbs of the capital Manama. The clashes broke out in the village of Sanabis following the funeral of 15-year old Ahmad Abdul-Amir Ali. He was critically injured in an explosion near a warehouse on Friday. Reports say Ahmad died because the ambulance taking him to hospital was stopped by security forces. Bahrain\'s main opposition group al-Wefaq called the teenager a martyr and urged people to participate in his funeral.

Syrian forces are pushing ahead with military operations to clear insurgents from Damascus suburbs. Fighting is now underway near the town of Yabroud north of Damascus. The town in the Qalamoun region is located near Nabek which was recaptured by government troops yesterday. They took over Nabek after seizing a key nearby highway.

The group has pledged not to cave in under attacks similar to last week\\\'s car bombing in Beirut\\\'s southern suburbs. The comments came after the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- ISIL, claimed responsibility for that attack. The ISIL said the bombing was in retaliation for Hezbollah\\\'s support for the Syrian government. Hezbollah says terrorist attacks will not change its stance on Lebanon or Syria. It says the group is fighting Takfiri militants and not the Syrian people. The bombing in a Beirut neighborhood killed several people and injured dozens of others.

Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) has warned that the movement will strike Israel's infrastructure, including its airports and refineries, in the event of any Israeli attack on Lebanon. During an address commemorating the assassination of three Hizbullah leaders by Israel, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) vowed to bomb Israel's Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv should the regime hit Beirut's Martyr Rafiq al-Hariri International Airport in any future war. "If you hit Martyr Rafiq al-Hariri international airport in Beirut, we will hit Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv," he said via a live video link in Beirut's southern suburbs on Tuesday. "If you hit our ports, we will bomb your ports, and if you hit our oil refineries, we will bomb your oil refineries," he added. He also threatened that should Israel bomb Lebanon's refineries, factories or power plants, the movement would retaliate with all its might. Tens of thousands of people have marched through the streets of Beirut, waving flags and banners to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam Hessein (PBUH). The outpouring over the martyrdom of Prophet Mohammad's grandson reached to a crescendo in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut, where Hezbollah secretary general Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah gave a speech. Ashura in lebanon has come to symbolize the conflict with Israel.This occasion according to hezbollah and many of the masses commemorating Ashura should serve as a reminder to certain sides not to surrender to the will of Israel. Sayyed Nasrallah once again underscored the importance of not surrendering to Israel, and called on Arab leaders to embrace the choice of resistance rather than negotiating with Israel, which he described as a waste of time. Sayyed Nasrallah stressed the importance the teachings of Imam Hussein who was martyred in 680 AD by his enemies. Imam Hussein's teachings are considered by Muslims around the world as the basis of resistance against what they believe to be the current forms of occupation and imperialism. The Hezbollah leader also said there is a new western conspiracy against the resistance and its people. Many wore black as a sign of mourning and chanted slogans in support of Hezbollah. The element of Ashura and specifically the effort to fight injustice has been considered by hezbollah as one of its main building blocks. Today with an international tribunal that could indict some of its members hezbollah views itself as a victim of what it believes to be international injustice and has set out to confront this with what it believes to be the real meaning of truthfullness.

During the sixth anniversary of the July 2006 war, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has warned Israel on any strike against Lebanon in the future and that Hezbollah’s resistance will have a big military surprise for them. Hezbollah’s Secretary General has considered the 2006 war as the first step in targeting the entire resistance bloc including Iran and Syria: Sayyed Nasrallah has revealed that Hezbollah’s missiles, which were used against Israel were not only transferred through Syria, but were also Syrian made. Nasrallah stressed that the most important weapons, which were fought with by the resistance movements in Lebanon and Palestine were from Syria. He further stressed that the U.S. has taken advantage of rightful demands for the Syrian people and prevented dialogue and has turned Syria into a war zone. Several hours prior to his speech, Hezbollah supporters flocked to the Southern Beirut Suburbs sounding their support for Hezbollah louder than ever. What is seen by Hezbollah’s supporters as a divine victory over Israel in the 2006 summer war is seen by military experts as a major transformation which has made Hezbollah a regional player to be reckoned with for years to come.

The Americans including the Jewish citizens, are really getting fed up with Israel\'s violations of Palestinians\' rights as they get more informed thanks to the Internet, says an analyst. The Palestinian Authority (PA) has threatened to take legal action against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) if the Tel Aviv regime builds new settler units on the occupied Palestinian land. The move comes as the Zionist regime of Israel is planning to build new settler units in a Palestinian area called E1 outside the suburbs of East al-Quds (Jerusalem). More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel\'s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967. The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands. Clashes have erupted between Syrian army forces and foreign-backed militants in the suburbs of the country\\\'s largest city, Aleppo, Press TV reports. Syrian army forces clashed with militants as they advanced from three directions to liberate the city and cut off insurgents supply lines in the north, a Press TV correspondent reported from Syria on Monday. Army troops have also managed to block an insurgent assault on the Minnegh air base and Aleppo\\\'s Central Prison. The Syrian army launched a major operation to clear the northwestern city of Aleppo of the foreign-backed militants on Sunday. The Syrian army has scored victories against the militants in recent days, liberating the strategic towns of Qusayr, Qunaytirah and Daba\\\'a in the west. Qusayr was an important center and supply route for the armed groups

Syrian army victories against foreign-backed militants have become a fact nearly on a daily basis, especially in Damascus and its suburbs. Press TV team accompanied Syrian army units in parts of al-Qaboun area that have been cleared of the foreign-backed militants. The Army regained control over the main bus station in al-Qaboun where Syrians used to head to any other Syrian city. However, armed men, who occupied it for nearly two months, destroyed it completely. Syrian army units have managed to completely secure the 1.5 kilometer industrial zone in al-Qaboun area which links Barzeh, al-Qaboun and Jobar together. More instability in Lebanon. From the north in Tripoli to the south in Sidon and now to the heart of Beirut\'s southern suburbs. A massive car bomb explosion rocked the south of the Lebanese capital causing dozens of injuries and immense material damage. The booby tracked car was parked in the parking lot of a shopping mall. This area which was targeted is a civilian area. Over there you have a shopping mall where people go and buy their goods and you also have civilian buildings. So what is clear is that this attack was aimed at causing a state of terror and fear amongst the civilians.
