The Iranian government has promised to save the lake from disappearing. Experts from Iran and around the world have come together to discuss the best options available to reverse the disastrous trend. Raising public awareness, encouraging farmers to abandon wasteful irrigation practices from sources feeding the lake and growing crops that consume less water are among plans pursued by the government to help stop the lake from drying up.

If convicted, Mr Zaidi may be jailed for up to seven years. The protesters brought a giant head of President Bush, threw shoes at it and covered it with shoes before ending their protest. They also brought bags of shoes representing Iraqis and US soldiers who have died since the Bush Administration’s “illegal invasion” of Iraq. The peace activists urged the Iraqi government to release Mr Zaidi without charges and have set up a fund to support him and his family. At the White House, Press Secretary Dana Perino said the president had “no hard feelings” about the Iraqi journalist who flung shoes at him. Asked if Mr Zaidi should be forgiven, Ms Perino said Mr Bush trusted Iraq’s legal system to decide an appropriate punishment for the assault. The protesters outside the White House also displayed names of thousands of Iraqis killed in the war. Death toll from Gaza aid attack hits 20 Mon, 31 May 2010 05:27:14 GMT Font size : The death toll from the Israeli navy's takeover of a Gaza aid convoy has risen to 20 while Israel carefully censors reports on the casualties from the attack. Gaza Freedom Flotilla came under fire early on Monday by Israeli navy forces in international waters more than 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza. The six-ship aid fleet was soon stormed by commandos descending from helicopters. At least 20 people were killed in the takeover of the Gaza aid convoy, al-Aqsa TV channel reported, saying that more than 50 people, including leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Salah, were wounded in the attack. The news trickled through the Israeli military censorship which has sought to block the reporting of any information about the casualties. A report on the Israeli radio said the censorship was aimed at covering up the number of casualties brought to Israeli hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, Israeli Trade and Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer expressed regret for the deaths aboard the Gaza aid ships. "The images are certainly not pleasant. I can only voice regret at all the fatalities," he told Israel's Army Radio. The comments come as the first official acknowledgement by Tel Aviv that the attack had turned fatal. Israel had initially declined to comment on the reports of casualties from the takeover of the aid ships.

"We have probably reached something like 2.1 million people, that is only about 17 percent or less than a fifth of the families that actually need emergency shelter," said a senior official from the organization The organization is taking part in the UN led relief efforts in flood-stricken Pakistan. The United Nations is to launch a fresh appeal for funding later this week to help the victims of the worst natural disaster in Pakistan's history. The floods have affected more than 21 million people and left 10 million without shelter. More than eight-million people rely on aid handouts for their survival. The developments come as Pakistani authorities continue efforts to protect several towns in Dadu district near the Indus river in Sindh Province. A Press TV correspondent says more lives are at risk from waterborne diseases in flood-hit areas. The correspondent adds that millions of Pakistan flood victims are leading miserable lives in the southern city of Thatta and several other districts in Sindh Province. They have taken refuge in graveyards or under trees to protect their families from scorching heat in the outskirts of the city. Survivors have been left without food, water, shelter and other basic necessities in Pakistan as a result of last month's flooding.
