Sanctions prelude to extinction of dollar
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insists that the anti-Iran sanctions will serve as a stepping stone to eradicate the domination of the US dollar in world markets.
Ahmadinejad said the countries that followed the US campaign for anti-Iran sanctions have deprived themselves of the opportunity to participate in Iranian economic projects, IRNA reported on Sunday.
Addressing a ceremony marking the international week of mosques, the Iranian president stressed that Iran would use Western sanctions to move towards developing the country's domestic manufacturing and globalizing Iranian-made products.
Ahmadinejad said the US-led sanctions was a form of a psychological warfare intended to force the Iranian nation into compromise, adding, "This nation will never compromise when it comes to its independence, integrity, principles and justice-seeking."
"If sanctions were to have any impact on Iran, it would not be during the tenure of [US President Barack] Obama."
Ahmadinejad went on to say that the only impact sanctions will have on the Iranian economy is that "they will help its flourishing."
The president said by adopting anti-Iran measures, the West has further discredited itself.

US President Barack Obama calls on Senate to delay imposing new sanctions on Iran, rejecting criticism by senators that Washington has not been tough on Iran. White House spokesman Jay Carney says that Obama has met top Democrats and Republicans from the Senate Armed Services, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees and urged them to delay any decision on new Iran sanctions. As Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are slated to hold fresh round of nuclear talks in Geneva on Wednesday, Obama tell the senators that new sanctions should not be enacted during the current negotiations. Meanwhile, a group of senators wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry, calling on the administration to make a tougher line on anti-Iran sanctions. The senators warned that easing the sanctions would not force Iran to abandon its pursuit of an alleged nuclear weapon. Obama says the proposed deal would permit a modest lifting of the economic sanctions on Iran.

The US administration warns the Congress that passing new sanctions against Iran will prove to the world that America negotiates in bad faith. White House spokesman Jay Carney says passage of new sanctions will undermine efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the standoff over Iran\'s nuclear program. He stated that any new sanctions would give the Iranians Quote-- an excuse Unquote to push the terms of the Geneva nuclear agreement to the side. The latest push by the White House comes as several groups of Republican and Democratic senators are making efforts to target Iran with a new set of sanctions. Carney added that if Tehran failed to abide by the terms of the deal, the White House would support new sanctions against the country. According to last month\'s Geneva deal, the U-S and its Western partners made a commitment to refrain from imposing new sanctions for six months.

In the official letter to the UN chief Ban Ki-moon, Iran's Charity Foundation for Special Diseases has stated that the country is running short of medicine for rare disease because of sanctions imposed by US. This has affected the Iranian nation as the illegal sanctions are hindering the production and import of such medicine in the country.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif has advised the US against imposing new sanctions against Tehran. In an interview with Time magazine, Zarif said the Geneva nuclear deal is going to be QUOTE-dead if the US Congress imposes new sanctions, even if they do not take effect for six months. Two US senators are preparing legislation to impose new sanctions on Iran in six months if the deal goes nowhere. These sanctions would target Iran\'s oil exports, foreign exchange reserves, and industry. The senators are making the move despite the Geneva deal between Tehran and the P-five-plus-one group of countries, which includes the U-S. Washington has already imposed several rounds of illegal sanctions on Iran, causing problems mainly for ordinary Iranians.

The Russian president says the new US sanctions against Iran will adversely affect the recent Geneva deal over Tehran\'s nuclear program.
Vladimir Putin was speaking at his annual news conference in Moscow in response to a question by Press TV correspondent\'s about the recent US sanctions against Iran. Moscow has strongly opposed any sanctions outside the UN Security Council against Iran. The latest US sanctions came despite last month\'s nuclear deal, between Iran and the P-five-plus-one group, which does not allow new sanctions against Tehran.

A new round of US unilateral sanctions came into effect on July 1st, planned to affect the Iranian economy hugely.
The sanctions target the barter of Iran\'s currency, the Rial, the country\'s auto sector, shipbuilding, and petroleum industry.
New tightening sanctions are being imposed on Iranian nation while the country is dealing with an inflation rate of over 31%.
Many political analysts believed that the United States was expected not to put into effect these new sanctions while a moderate candidate won the June presidential election.
They had predicted that the US administration would defer their decision on the new sets of economic pressures. To their chagrin, now many countries as well as international companies have to choose between the US and Iran.
In this edition of the show we will take a closer look at the new round of US sanctions against Iran.

The US says it is not looking to ease sanctions on Iran at the front-end of nuclear negotiations.
The White House aide, Ben Rhode says Tehran should take concrete steps before any decision to think about sanctions relief. He made the comments during a meeting of Senate committee leaders. However, he noted that one of the many ways to provide sanctions relief is to release Iran\'s frozen funds. The comments come as many innocent people including Iranian patients who are in need of medicine are the victims of illegal sanctions against the country.

France says the European Union would likely lift some sanctions on Iran in December as part of a nuclear deal between Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabuius has said that in a few weeks time, the EU foreign ministers would sit down for talks over the partial removal of sanctions on Iran. He noted that the lifting of sanctions would be limited, targeted and reversible. France\'s top diplomat also described as unlikely any strike on Iran by Israel, saying no one would understand such an attack at this stage. On Sunday, Iran signed an agreement with the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany over its nuclear program in Geneva. Under the deal-- the first of its kind in a decade, Iran will limit its nuclear program in return for the loosening of sanctions.

Peugeot-Citroen was the worst affected French company when the U-S and its allies imposed sanctions against Iran in 2012. Until then, the car-maker had been sending spare parts to its former partner Iran-Khodro. When it stopped doing so, it entered a period of deep crisis which led to thousands of job cuts in the company. In a country facing record high unemployment, this was a shock.
With the new deal between Iran and five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany, the sanctions on Tehran are eased, bringing a mix of respite and caution to labor unions.
Peugeot Citroen\'s share prices rose just a day after the ease on sanctions was announced.
Before the sanctions, the company was the biggest player on Iranian roads.
Peugeot has recently announced it is hiring a new chairman in 2014.
But labor unions are skeptical if Carlos Tavares can really turn around the car-maker\'s fortunes.
In the coming days, Tehran will host the first international car makers\' conference on Iranian auto-industry. And that is where French car brands will find out, if they will dominate Iranian roads as they once did.

Kerry made the remarks in a briefing to U-S Congressmen about the recent nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany. Kerry said that new sanctions would eventually lead to the removal of all sanctions because the other negotiating partners would not follow suit. He said that decades of sanctions have failed to make any impact on the Iranian nuclear program. He added that President Barack Obama is committed and needs the help of Congress to resolve the nuclear issue, which he called-QUOTE- the most urgent, critical, and pressing. The UN committee monitoring sanctions against Iran has welcomed a recent nuclear deal between Tehran and the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany. The committee, however, reiterated that all UN sanctions will remain in force until a final deal is reached.
The US representative to the UN was addressing the committee\'s first briefing since the Geneva accord in November. The deal offers Iran a limited sanctions relief in exchange for scaling down its nuclear program. The UN Security Council has imposed four rounds of sanctions on Iran over the country\'s nuclear energy program.

Under the Geneva deal reached between Iran and the world powers, Washington had agreed to refrain from slapping new sanctions on Iran. So why has Washington decided to blacklist Iranian individuals and companies?
The US response: We carried out the new sanctions within the framework of the existing sanctions regime which had forced Tehran to the negotiating table and did not constitute new measures. But the US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman, insists that Congress could theoretically keep imposing new sanctions on Iran as long as they do not make it about their nuclear program. Sherman said \"the only commitment we have made in this agreement is no new nuclear-related sanctions.\" What does Sherman\'s remark signify?
Is there a disparity and division between the US Congress and the Obama administration, Israel\'s continued efforts to sabotage the nuclear deal, and the chances of this nuclear deal falling apart.

Us President Barack Obama has once again stressed the need to enforce existing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear energy program.
Obama has repeated his anti-Iran remarks during a joint press conference with visiting French President Francois Hollande in Washington. He says the U-S and France both insist on the sanctions even as they know this would endanger the possibility of a diplomatic solution. He says the U-S has recently intensified its measures to identify and punish individuals and companies that violate the existing anti-Iran sanctions. Obama went further to threaten that sanctions may be tightened if the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group fail. The French president\'s visit to the U-S follows the visit to Iran of a French business delegation which sparked criticism from Washington.

Will the United States lift its illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran? Well, it seems like it won\'t unless Washington stops listening to Israel. But who is mainly affected by the sanctions? Reports from Iran\'s health sector show cancer patients and hemophiliacs are hurt far more than the country\'s nuclear program. The sanctions have hindered Iran\'s international financial transactions. And that has made the importation of vital medicines extremely difficult. The country\'s pharmaceutical industry is also unable to produce those medicines because of a shortage of raw materials. But after the latest round of nuclear talks with Iran, the United States hinted that it\'s ready to ease the pressure. However, Washington is under immense pressure from Israel and Saudi Arabia not to lift its illegal embargo, which is hurting ordinary Iranian citizens.

Under the Geneva deal between Iran and five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany, the western countries have agreed to ease sanctions on Iran in response to Tehran\'s confidence-building move to continue its nuclear energy program at a lower level. But, there are different accounts of the exact timing of the partial sanctions removal.
The U-S says Iran will see up to seven-billion-dollars worth of its frozen assets un-blocked. Out of this amount, Washington is expected to un-freeze some four-point-two billion dollars in oil revenue frozen in foreign banks. But, some remaining 40 billion dollars of Iran\'s oil export money will remain frozen. This is the amount Iran obtained through selling its oil under U-S and E-U sanctions imposed in early 20-12. Iran could also access another four-hundred-million dollars for educational purposes, such as the transfer of university tuition fees. France\'s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius says this could happen in December. But British Foreign Secretary William Hague, as well as the spokesman for E-U\'s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, say they expect the sanctions easing to be completed in January.

McCain made the comment on a US television, where he also warned Iran that it was \\\"very likely\\\" the bill would take effect if a final agreement was not penned within the next six months. Earlier, during a Senate hearing last week, Secretary of State John Kerry had defended the recent interim nuclear deal signed with Iran. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov says the US measure will hinder progress on ending the standoff over Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Ryabkov added that the unilateral U-S sanctions are illegitimate. Last November, Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany reached a landmark agreement on Tehran\'s nuclear energy program. Under the deal, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities in return for the West easing its anti-Tehran sanctions. In late January, the two sides implemented the deal, with the West easing some of its sanctions.

Iranian presidential candidate Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel has underscored the importance of national unity and resistance as the keys to render ineffective the West\'s economic embargoes against Iran.
\"We should join hands and prove that, as we didn\'t bow to the enemy during the eight years of the [Iraqi-] imposed war, we won\'t give up in this economic war either, and we will manage our lives in a way that will turn these economic sanctions and economic threats into opportunities, God willing,\" Haddad-Adel said during a Thursday campaign speech in Tehran.

They\'ve imposed sanctions on oil, on the Central Bank [of Iran], on money transactions, on marine transportation, on insurance. They did whatever they could to place the [Iranian] nation under economic pressure,\" Haddad-Adel added.

U-S Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman says she has asked Congress to put new sanctions against Iran on hold.
Sherman -- who is also the main U-S negotiator in the negotiations on Iran\'s nuclear energy program -- says the pause should be taken to see whether talks with Iran can gain traction. The remarks come days after Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany held a new round of talks in Geneva to resolve issues related to Tehran\'s nuclear energy program. Over the past few years, the U-S Congress has imposed several rounds of illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran to pressure the country to halt the uranium enrichment component of its nuclear energy program.
