Reports from Syria say Kurdish fighters have managed to recapture a key town in the country\'s north-east. Press TV sources say the Kurdish People\'s Protection Units, known as YPG, have regained control of Tall Hamis town near the Turkish border. The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. The victory is not the first for the YPG, as the group has previously taken control over several areas in the region.

Syrian government forces recapture the town of Qara in the northern Qalamoun area.

Syrian forces recapture more than half of a strategic city near the border with Lebanon. Some are describing this and similar advances as a game-changer that will eventually lead to an end to more than two years of a deadly insurgency against President Bashar al Assad. As the US and Russia agree on a peace conference, others are asking can peace talks work as long as terrorists from all over the world continue to operate within Syrian soil. Reports of the discovery of Israeli-made equipment have also raised questions on the extent of cooperation between the insurgents, regional Arab states and Tel Aviv.
