[27 June 2012] Turkey after NATO intervention in Syria - English
Turkey has deployed a large number of tanks and other armored vehicles to the Syrian border amid rising tensions with Damascus over the downing of a Turkish fighter jet by the Syrian army.
The move comes hours after Turkish Prime Minster Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to retaliate against Damascus over the downing of its fighter jet.
Erdogan said that Turkey changes the rules of engagement with Syria and branded its former ally as "a clear and imminent threat".
Syrian military says that it had engaged the jet in the Syrian airspace "according to the laws that govern such situations."
NATO has condemned Syria's downing of the Turkish jet as 'unacceptable' and promised support for Ankara.
Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi on Monday warned NATO against forging any anti-Syria conspiracy on the downing of the Turkish fighter jet.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Ali al-Ahmed, director of IGA, to hear his opinion on this issue.

[01 July 2012] Barclays bank fined 290mn pounds over financial scandal - English
Barclays bank was hit with 290 million pounds in fines for a serious widespread role in trying to manipulate interest rates and the cost of borrowing. Barclays chairman Marcus Agius has resigned over the scandal and is scheduled to appear before lawmakers on the Treasury Committee on Thursday to answer their questions. In an interview to mark the fifth anniversary of Tony Blair's resignation as the British Prime Minister, he said that he would be willing to do it all again and that he had learned much in the last five years to make him a better premiere.
However, Blair has never apologized and will never face a trial for crimes he committed in Iraq. He even claims that things in Iraq are getting better and the country's economy is growing. "Some of us will never forget the hundreds of thousands of children who died under sanctions at his [Blair] hands, and the countless more who perished thereafter, again at his hands, under shot and shell," said George Galloway.

[24 July 2012] US Israel seek to launch more wars in Mideast - English
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Tel Aviv will "have to act" to prevent a possible transfer of chemical weapons from Syria to Lebanon.
In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Netanyahu said the need for an intervention may arise in case of the collapse of the Syrian government.
"So I think that this is something we'll have to act to stop if the need arises. And the need might arise if there's a regime collapse," the Israeli premier said.
He made the comments a few days after Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Ehud Barak made similar remarks.
Barak said that "the moment (Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) starts to fall we will conduct intelligence monitoring and will liaise with other agencies."
"Israel cannot accept a situation where advanced weapons systems are transferred from Syria to Lebanon," he said.
This is while Israel has intensified its military buildup in the occupied Golan Heights near the Syrian border.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Dr. Randy Short, with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, from Washington, to further discuss the issue.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has reassured israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is fiercely opposed to diplomacy with Iran, about ongoing nuclear negotiations.
The United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany held nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva earlier this month. The two sides are set to meet again in Geneva on November 7-8.
Kerry said that meanwhile the Obama administration will not let up its pressure on Iran. \"No deal is better than a bad deal,\" he said. \"But if this can be solved satisfactorily, diplomatically, it is clearly better for everyone.\"
The hawkish Israeli premier, who has found himself increasingly isolated as the world powers are engaged in negotiations with Iran, reiterated his accusations against Tehran.

Palestinian investigators accuse Israel of being the prime suspect in the mysterious death of former Palestine Liberation Organization leader, Yasser Arafat.
A Palestinian committee charged with finding the truth has accepted the Swiss and Russian reports that show the former P-L-O leader was poisoned to death. During a press conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestinian investigators said that scientific details show Arafat did not die a natural death. They\'ve also pledged to carry out a thorough investigation to confirm all the details and elements of the case. Arafat\'s body was exhumed last year to find out the actual cause of his death. During forensic tests, Swiss scientists found a high level of polonium in Arafat\'s bones. Arafat died in November 2004, after going onto a coma following symptoms of abdominal pains, diarrhea and vomiting.

This, as Iraqi oil minister and his Turkish counterpart yesterday agreed that oil exports from anywhere in Iraq need the central government\'s approval. Meanwhile, thousands of people have taken to the streets of Rome to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Enrico Letta\'s government.
The protesters, who\'re angry over the government\'s harsh austerity measures and high unemployment, called for fresh elections. They also accused the ruling class of corruption. The relatively calm protest turned violent after the demonstrators broke a journalist\'s camera, accusing them of being terrorists. The rally was organized by the anti-European Forconi or Pitchfork movement, which has been demanding more national sovereignty and lower taxes. The movement initially started as a farmers\' movement and was later joined by truck drivers and students. The Italian president has warned that failure to swiftly introduce reforms to help struggling citizens could plunge the country into violent social unrest.

He made the remarks after Nawaz Sharif implied that anti-drone protests are pushing Pakistan into isolation. Imran khan has been spearheading an anti-drone campaign by blockading main NATO supply routes into Afghanistan. Anti-drone sentiment is running high in the country over civilian casualties of the drone strikes.
