An Afghan refugee who was granted asylum in the UK has accepted substantial libel compensation at the high court in London after the daily express newspaper falsely accused him of being a member of the Taliban. Abdol Shazad who is 20 was recognized as a refugee by the Home Office last February after a four-year battle in which it was found that he was at fear of being persecuted by the Taliban. But a month later The express published a story saying that he was a member of the Taliban and posted an online version of the story under which hateful and abusive comments were posted causing great distress to Mr Shazad Journalists say this type of behavior is indicative of the lack of ethics of large segments of the right wing media.The Legal Counsel for the Express, Chloe Strong Said: \"The allegation in the articles was false and the defendant wishes to offer its sincerest apologies to the claimant for the damage, distress and embarrassment which the publication of the articles has caused him.\" The Daily Express has apologized and agreed to pay him substantial damages. The exact figure is undisclosed. But this type of behavior from elements of the right wing press is unlikely to stop as a result For Mr Shazid at least, there has been some kind of accountability for this unethical journalism.

A Hamas senior official has lashed out at Saudi Arabia for not granting visas to Gazans who want to go on the Hajj pilgrimage. In remarks posted on Hummaas's website, Atef Edwan said Riyadh had allowed thousands of people registered with the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank to have visas but not the 2,200 in Gaza who applied through Hummaas, AFP reported. "By ignoring those Gaza pilgrims registered with the Waqf (department of religious affairs) Saudi Arabia is making a political mistake that will have negative consequences on the Saudi regime and the whole region," AFP quoted Edwan as saying. Meanwhile media outlets quoted unnamed witnesses as saying that Hummaas police set up checkpoints across Gaza on Saturday, to prevent those who coordinated their pilgrimage with the movement's rival, the Palestinian Authority from traveling. Since last month tensions between Hummaas and the Palestinian Authority has heightened as the Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas increased the detention of Hummaas' members.

Jundullah leader Abdulmalik Rigi received $100,000 from US operatives to fuel sectarianism in Iran in just one of their meetings, his brother has said. "My brother Abdulmalik met several times with US forces in Pakistan," Abdulhamid Rigi told a group of tribal leaders and citizens in the town of Iranshahr in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan. "I myself took part in one of those meetings, where we discussed recruitment, training, infiltrating Iran and methods of inflaming Sunni-Shia sectarianism for three hours. In that meeting, the Americans gave my brother $100,000," he added. Abdulhamid also said that during the meeting in question, his brother had asked for computer and satellite equipment, which he used to recruit young Sunni Baluchies. According to Jundullah's former number two, young men were attracted to the group because it sought to portray itself as an Islamic and Jihadist movement. He said that the group promoted the idea that killing two people from the Shia community would ensure entry to Paradise as they are infidels. Abdulhamid said that he had shot his wife dead in the Pakistani city of Quetta while she was asleep, because his brother had said she must die for being a Shia and a government spy. He added that Abdulmalik too had previously killed his own wife by slitting her throat for the same reason. Abdulhamid Rigi had earlier confirmed that the ring leader had repeatedly met with US agents in the Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Karachi since 2005. "In Pakistan, Malik [Abdulmalik Rigi] contacted an individual who resided in the US, who then put him through to the FBI," he said in a recent interview with Press TV. Jundullah (meaning 'God's Army') is a Pakistan-based terrorist group closely affiliated with the notorious al-Qaeda organization and is made up of disgruntled members of Iran's Sunni Baluch community. A 2007 Sunday Telegraph report revealed that the CIA had created Jundullah to achieve 'regime change in Iran'. The report said it was the very same US intelligence outfit that had tried to destabilize Iran by 'supplying arms-length support' and 'money and weapons' to Jundullah. Another report posted by ABC also revealed that the US officials had ordered Jundullah to 'stage deadly guerrilla raids inside the Islamic Republic, kidnap Iranian officials and execute them on camera', all as part of a 'programmatic objective to overthrow the Iranian government'. Jundullah has carried out a number of bombings and other violent attacks in Iran resulting in many casualties. Some of the attacks for which it has claimed responsibility are the killings of at least 16 Iranian police officers in a 2008 attack, nine Iranian security guards in 2005, and another 11 in a 2007 bombing. The group's leader Abdulmalik Rigi has also publicly claimed responsibility for a bombing in May at a Shia mosque in the southeastern city of Zahedan, which left 25 worshipers dead and scores injured. Soon after the attack, Abdulmalik Rigi admitted during an interview with a US-based satellite TV station that his group collaborated with another anti-Iranian terrorist group, the Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO). "They (MKO) inform us about the regime's activities in our areas of operations and let us know of the regime's forces in these districts and send us most of the intelligence of our interest by email and messages," Rigi told the station. MKO is listed as a terrorist organization by the US, Iran, and Iraq. Nevertheless, the US government has still not classified Jundullah as a proscribed terrorist organization.

Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr is from the city of Awwamiyah in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia. He is an outspoken Shia cleric known for his criticism of the Saudi government and his constant call for freedom of religion, equality, and justice for the Shia minority in Saudi Arabia. In 2009, Al-Nimr said that the dignity of the Saudi Shia is more precious than the unity of the land, and suggested that Saudi Shia might secede from Saudi Arabia. Fearing arrest, Al-Nimr currently is in hiding. Nimr Al-Nimr: �For the past 100 years, we have been subjected to oppression, injustice, fear, and intimidation. From the moment you are born, you are surrounded by fear, intimidation, persecution, and abuse. We were born into an atmosphere of intimidation. We feared even the walls. Who among us is not familiar with the intimidation and injustice to which we have been subjected in this country? I am 55 years old, more than half a century. From the day I was born and to this day, I�ve never felt safe or secure in this country. �You are always being accused of something. You are always under threat. The head of the State Security Service admitted this to me in person. He said to me when I was arrested: �All you Shi�ites should be killed.� That is their logic. The death toll among foreign soldiers in Afghanistan is rising. According to the latest count of US war dead in Afghanistan, Soldier deaths now is above 2120 At least 52 of them were killed this year in \"insider attacks\" by Afghan government forces or Taliban forces. The southern provinces of Kandahar and Helmand have proven to be the most deadly areas for US troops. About half of US soldiers have died in those regions. Experts say even strategic areas such as key highways in the region are still not secure. It\'s very clear that they can\'t hold on to that highway and prevent Taliban from planting IEDs and prevent severe consequences for US troops. Although it is Afghan civilians who are the number one victims of the US so-called war on terror, US troop casualties are persistent. This is despite the 33,000 additional U.S. troops that withdrew from Afghanistan after troop size was increased after the surge. The rising casualty rate has not been lost on the American public. The call for troops to come home grows louder from Congress to the internet. This letter urging for the immediate withdrawal of US troops was posted over the weekend saying: During his monthly press conference in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen commented on recent \"insider attacks\" in Afghanistan. Rasmussen says that insider attacks are forcing US-led troops to rethink their system of training Afghans-- as the Taliban have adapted their strategy to weaken western forces. Military officials say they have made broad improvements in fighting the Taliban. However, the rising death toll of US troops and the increase of insider attacks has many left thinking that the time for US troops complete withdrawal is well overdue.

The United States claims to be targeting militants with its assassination drone attacks overseas, but reports indicate the airstrikes have mostly led to civilian casualties in Somalia and several other Muslim countries. Anti drone activists say that Somalia does not need US interference, especially its drone programs. They say the unmanned aircraft has caused more harm than good. A security expert says that the UAVs have led to higher civilian deaths in Somalia since its inception.

Prominent Egyptian Shia cleric, Sheikh Hassan Shehata, and four of his devotees have been killed in a brutal attack carried out by Takfiri extremists in Giza Province near Cairo. The attack was carried out on Sunday when a crowd of several hundred assailants attacked Sheikh Shehata\'s home and then set it on fire at the village of Abu Mussalam. Brutal scenes of the crime were posted on the internet late Sunday, showing men dragging Sheikh Shehata\'s bloody body on the street and beating him as the Sheikh chanted \"Allahu Akbar [God is Great].\" Dozens of other devotees who were at Sheikh Shehata\'s house for commemorating a Shia holy day were also injured.

Saudi authorities have warned against a campaign to give women the right to drive in the conservative kingdom. The warning comes as Saudi female activists are gearing up against a long-standing driving ban, with more defiant women already getting behind the wheel. More than 50 videos showing Saudi women driving have been posted online over the past two weeks. A video, which went viral on the Internet this month, shows a fully veiled woman driving in the capital Riyadh as passing drivers give her a thumbs-up. Under the slogan, Women\'s Driving is a Choice, female activists have called for a demonstration on Saturday against the ban in the country. One Saudi woman by the name of Manal al-Sharif, who was put behind bars a couple of year ago for posting a video of herself while driving, says Saudi women are determined to drive.

International rights groups are calling on Saudi Arabia to allow women to drive ahead of a planned day of defiance against a ban on female drivers. Amnesty International wants Saudi authorities to respect women\'s right to drive. The group has expressed astonishment that in the 21st century, Saudi authorities continue to deny women the right to legally drive a car. Human Rights Watch has also thrown its weight behind the Saudi women\'s campaign dubbed \"Women to Drive\". Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have threatened women not to join the campaign on Saturday. Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world which forbids women from getting behind the wheel. Recently, dozens of women have defiantly posted online videos of themselves driving in several Saudi cities.

In Egypt, a video has gone viral showing an ex-army officer carrying out a car bomb attack last month. The botched attack was said to have targeted the interior minister. The video was posted online on Saturday by an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, which claims to have also carried out other attacks on the volatile Sinai Peninsula. The video shows a man in army uniform with a rank of a major. Egypt\'s Interior Ministry had confirmed that a former officer was behind the assassination attempt. The ex-officer was sacked from the military more than 10 years ago because of his extremist ideas. He then went to Afghanistan and joined militant groups in Iraq and Syria.

Iran says it will hand international bodies clear and convincing evidence on the role of the supporters of Takfiri groups in the crimes committed in Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria and elsewhere. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted the comment on his Facebook page, in reaction to the assassination of Iranian diplomat Abolqasem Assadi in the Yemeni capital of Sana\'a. Zarif said that a small group is backing such dangerous moves and fueling clashes in the region and beyond. The top diplomat added that Iran is ready for an international campaign against extremism and sectarianism. Zarif said he delivered that message to top officials in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Russia during his recent tour of the region.

An Al-Qaeda-linked group has issued a threat to Hezbollah, saying it would continue its attacks against the Lebanese resistance movement. In a statement posted on the Internet, the group, known as the Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, says -- Hezbollah and its bases are legitimate targets. The statement comes just three days after the group claimed responsibility for a car bombing in Beirut\'s southern suburbs that killed four people. That was the sixth in a string of terrorist attacks in Lebanon in recent months. Another al-Qaeda-linked outfit, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, carried out a twin bombing in front of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in November. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 people -- including an Iranian diplomat.

A leading human rights organization condemns an al-Qaeda-affiliated group for committing crimes against humanity against Iraqi soldiers and civilians. Human Rights Watch has criticized the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL for the execution-style killing of four Iraqi especial forces near Ramadi on January 20. A video posted on the internet shows ISIL insurgents shooting the Iraqi soldiers in the back of their heads. The rights group says the abhorrent killings are the latest in a long list of atrocities by the militants. It also blasted the insurgents for carrying out deadly car bombings targeting civilians.
