After 9/11, many Muslims in the US and Britain experienced an upsurge of suspicion and hostility from people around them. At the same time, paradoxically perhaps, the number of white converts to Islam began to rise. In Britain, their number has doubled in the last ten years -- and nearly two-thirds of the newcomers are women. In this programme, Miriam O\'Reilly meets women who have chosen to embrace Islam for very different reasons -- among them Lauren Booth, sister-in-law to Britain\'s former Prime Minister, Tony Blair; and Myriam Francois Cerrah, a successful child actress who appeared in \"Sense and Sensibility\" alongside Emma Thompson and gave up her dreams of Hollywood when she found Islam. The Associated Press has just uncovered a confidential NYPD plan from 2006 to engage in targeted surveillance of Shiite mosques following increased tensions between the U.S. and Iran; the latest revelation on its secret intelligence operations focused on Muslim neighborhoods. On Thursday a coalition of Muslim and civil rights organizations reiterated their call for the immediate resignation of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. We're joined by reporter Matt Apuzzo, who has helped break the NYPD spying story for the Associated Press; and Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid, spiritual leader at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood and president of the Islamic Leadership Council of New York. "It's very hard to read that document as saying anything other than you're doing religious profiling. What that document says is, we should look at all Shiite mosques because we need to know about Iranian terrorists," Apuzzo says. It is a Makki sura located in juz\'s twenty and twenty one. The name \"al-\'Ankabut\" (spider) is adopted from the analogy made in verse forty one of this sura. This sura speaks about the unity of God, signs of God in the creation and fighting with polytheism; and to console the few Muslims in the beginning of Islam, it gives reports about the destinies of some previous prophets. Sura al-\'Ankabut also speaks about the greatness of the Qur\'an and the proofs of rightfulness of Prophet Muhammad and the stubbornness of his opposers. Verses forty one and fifty seven are among famous verses of Sura al-\'Ankabut. In verse forty one, God likens the story of disbelievers\' reliance on idols to spider and its weak net; and verse fifty seven warns that every soul shall taste death, then they shall be brought back to God. About the merits of recitation of this sura, it is transmitted from Prophet Muhammad that whoever recites Sura al-\'Ankabut, he will be rewarded ten rewards for every believer or hypocrite [in the history]. Order and Place of Revelation Sura al-\'Ankabut is a Makki sura. It was eighty fifth sura revealed to Prophet Muhammad. It is twenty ninth sura of the Qur\'an,[2] located in juz\'s twenty and twenty one. Sura al-\'Ankabut has sixty nine verses, 683 words, and 4321 letters. According to Islamic sources, the event of Mubahala was a meeting between Prophet Muhammad and a Christian delegation from Najran (present-day Yemen) in the month of Dhu\'l-Hijja, 10 AH, where based on the direct verse of the Quran, the Prophet invited the Christians to discuss theology and specifically, the status of Prophet Jesus in Islam. Surely the case of Jesus is like the case of Adam. He created him out of dust, then he said to him, \"Be\', and he was. This is the truth from thy Lord, so be thou not of those who doubt. Now whoso disputes with thee concerning him, after what has come to thee of Knowledge, say to him \"Come let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and ourselves and yourselves then let us pray fervently and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie.\" — Quran, 3:59–61 The initial effort was to invite the Najrani Christians to Islam and acknowledgement of Prophet Muhammad as a prophet of God and His final emissary. During religious discussions of similarities and differences, the topic of the divinity of \'Īsā (Jesus) arose.
