[31 Aug 2014] Pakistan army warns it will intervene if crisis not solved peacefully - English

The UN-Arab League envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi has started intensified meetings in the Syrian capital Damascus. He has met delegations representing opposition groups including National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change. The group expressed readiness to participate in Geneva two peace talks.

Tens of thousands of mostly peaceful demonstrators streamed into central London on Saturday to march against government budget cuts, with a small breakaway group smashing its way into a bank, breaking windows and spray painting logos on the walls. Another group of black-clad protesters hurled paint bombs and ammonia-filled light bulbs at police. Organisers of the march estimated that at least 250,000 people from across the country were peacefully joining in the demonstration, the biggest protest in London since a series of rallies against the Iraq war in 2003. Police said they were not giving out crowd estimates.

This was the 3rd demonstration in Oslo in support of the oppressed Bahraini people. The demonstrators gathered outside the central station, marched through the city centre and reached outside the US Embassy. A few activists delivered speeches denouncing the USA and Saudi Arabia outside the embassy. The demo ended peacefully afterwards.

Details: The world is witness today to yet another deplorable incident in a growing trend of Islamophobia in our policy and society. The insult to the Prophet of Islam has been grave indeed, and it is a direct result of the hate-mongering from policy makers which has emboldened such bigotry. Islam respects and honors monotheistic Prophets such as Adam, Noah, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them all) and considers the ridiculing of these personalities a great sin and disrespect. We must come together to bring the conversation back to American national politics of hate-mongering against Muslims, which is implemented to create an environment of bigotry so American foreign policy of murder and plunder can be justified to the public. The fact that elected officials have personally encouraged bigotry against Muslims and Muslim communities in the US (from the King hearings to NYPD profiling to anti-sharia bills), has only cultivated a culture of hate which has resulted in a despicable film like this. We sympathize with all those families who have lost their innocent loved ones, Muslims, Jews or Christians, due to world events stemming from the disgraceful acts of the film\\\\\\\'s producers and supporters. According to the Yemeni Houthi protesters -who have gathered in Sana\'a\'s Liberation Square - the revolution in their country has not met its goals so far. The protesters - largely from Independent Youth, and Houthi revolutionaries -- have vowed to continue their move peacefully to meet the revolution\'s goals, which they feel have not been fulfilled by the country\'s political factions.

Still with Turkey, riot police have used water cannon and smoke grenade to disperse thousands of Kurdish protesters marching on the Syrian border. The march in the eastern province of Jiz-reh was in solidarity with Syrian Kurds. Demonstrations started peacefully when thousands gather to attend a rally organized by pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party. But clashes broke out when they marched on the Syrian border and crossed into the Arab country. Kurds\' assertiveness during the Syrian conflict has put Turkey in a tough position to deal with the militants from Kurdish Workers Party-- the P-K-K. Ankara has been engaged in a peace process with the P-K-K during the past year despite designating them as a terrorist group. Turkey has also been a main supporter of the insurgency in Syria which has negatively affected the lives of Kurds there.

In Bahrain, demonstrations have been held against the regime\'s violent crackdown and the killing of pro-democracy protesters. In the predominantly Shia village of Bani Jamrah in the northwest, people protested peacefully over the murder of two protesters by the regime forces. Carrying pictures of the slain protesters, they formed a human pyramid at the end of the rally and waved the Bahraini flags. The village has been the scene of a brutal crackdown, with regime forces opening fire on unarmed protesters on many occasions. Earlier on Friday, the police fired tear gas and stun grenades at anti-regime protesters on the island of Sitra, south of the capital Manama. Since 2011, demonstrations against the al Khalifa regime have been held almost every day in Bahrain. Troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were called in to assist the Bahraini regime in its crackdown on protesters.
