NATO is holding one of its largest post-Cold War military drills near Russia\'s borders.
Poland and the Baltic states are hosting the war games launched on Saturday. Code-named \"Steadfast Jazz\", the exercises involve some SIX thousand troops from NATO as well as non-member states such as Finland, Sweden and Ukraine. Around half of them will participate in live exercise training, which will involve armor, aircraft and naval vehicles. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen says the week-long war games are designed to prepare forces to defend any ally from an unidentified foreign invader. NATO\'s recent actions have raised tensions in the region. Russia has already expressed concerns over NATO\'s missile and radar deployments in Eastern Europe calling them threats to its security.

Israel issues tenders for more settler units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds. Settlement watchdog, Peace Now says the tenders were published for a total of 18-hundred-59 settler units. According to the NGO, about two-fifths of the units will be built in occupied east Jerusalem al-Quds. The announcement comes only days after Israel gave the final approval for 15-hundred new settler units in east Jerusalem al-Quds. Israel\'s settlement activities have been a main obstacle in the so-called peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and Tel Aviv. The Palestinian Authority has condemned the move as a flagrant violation of international law, saying it plans to turn to the UN Security Council and international courts to stop Israel\'s illegal activities. Israel\'s settlement activities are illegal under international law.

More tragedy for one of the most persecuted communities in the world. A boat full of Rohingya Muslims breaks apart in the Bay of Bengal off the western coast of Myanmar. Aid workers say so far only eight have survived and dozens more are missing. They were among at least 70 Rohingyas including women, children and babies who were on board the boat that left Myanmar for Bangladesh. The United Nation is warning about several reports of boat drowning off the coasts of Myanmar. According to the UN human rights commission, at least 15-hundred people left their homes in the restive Rakhine state last week alone. Myanmar has been plagued by sectarian tensions for years. The Leader of Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Islamic Revolution says the United States has lost its political and military power and turned into a country grappling with its biggest economic and financial problems. He was addressing a group of school and university students on the occasion of Student Day in Iran. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the U-S is suffering from political problems and divisions which led to the recent shutdown of the federal government. The Leader noted that Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s current economic hardships pale in comparison with those of the US administration. Ayatollah Khamenei said US officials made projections some 11 years ago about having 14-thousand billion dollars in extra revenues by 2011 or 2012, and that now, in practice, they are suffering from a huge 17-thousand billion dollar deficit. Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Leader said that this alone shows America\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s true economic situation and the inaccuracy of their official calculations. Ayatollah Khamenei also made mention of deep divisions among Washington\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s allies, saying that the U-S has failed to convince even its closest partners like France or Britain to back its decision on launching a strike against Syria.

The Leader of Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Islamic Revolution says the country\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s nuclear program is just an excuse for the United States to continue its enmity toward the Iranian nation.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei referred to the history of US hostility toward the Iranian nation. He said that the US officials had targeted Iran with various forms of plots, campaigns and schemes, before the nuclear issue even existed. The Leader rejected as simplistic or ill-intended those statements made by some elements who claim that if Iran gives up its nuclear rights, all economic and other problems facing the country will be resolved overnight. Ayatollah Khamenei defended the Iranian negotiating team against internal criticism. He said the Iranian negotiators-- who have held talks with the UN Security Council\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s permanent members plus Germany, are shouldering a tough responsibility.
