Sherman -- who is also the main U-S negotiator in the negotiations on Iran\'s nuclear energy program -- says the pause should be taken to see whether talks with Iran can gain traction. Iran has slammed anti-Iran remarks made by U-S undersecretary of state Wendy Sherman. Let\'s first see what the U-S official had said at a meeting with a group of US senators on October 3. Now Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Sherman has apparently no clear view of the Iranian people. Afkham said such remarks also contradict the principle of mutual respect. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said what is part of Iranians\' D-N-A is resistance against any form of bullying. Afkham\'s comments come as inside Iran many people including their M-Ps are angered by Sherman\'s insulting comments.

Rabbi slammed for promoting 'genocide' The chief Palestinian negotiator has urged worldwide condemnation of Israel's genocidal figures after a top Israeli clergyman wished all Palestinians dead. Referring to the Palestinians, the founder and spiritual leader of Israel's ultra-orthodox Shas party, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef said on Saturday, "All these evil people should perish from this world," Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reported. He especially desired the demise of acting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chief Mahmoud Abbas, referring to him by name. The remarks raised eyebrows partially as it came from a party partnering with Premier Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud in the ruling coalition. They also preceded upcoming direct peace talks between Israel and the PA. The Palestinian official, Saeb Erekat, called on the international community "to condemn incitement to genocide by public figures in Israel," AFP reported. Yosef "is literally calling for a genocide against Palestinians, and there seems to be no response from the Israeli government," he said in a statement. "He is particularly calling for the assassination of...Abbas who within a few days will be sitting face to face with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Is this how the Israeli government prepares its public for a peace agreement?" Erekat pointed out. He said Tel Aviv had "to do more about peace and stop spreading hatred." The Shas spiritual leader made similar comments in April 2001, calling for the annihilation of Arabs.

Presidential candidate Hassan Rohani says the US-engineered sanctions against Iran are illegal, because the West acknowledged the peaceful nature of Iran\\\'s nuclear energy program almost nine years ago. In a televised speech on Monday, Rohani said \\\"the Board of Governors [of the International Atomic Energy Agency] unanimously confirmed the peaceful nature of Iran\\\'s nuclear energy program in November 2004.\\\" \\\"We did not allow the nuclear dossier to be referred to the Security Council. In the course of one year, we proved the peaceful nature of our nuclear energy program,\\\" the presidential candidate stated. Rohani said that from October 2003 to August 2005 -- his term as Iran\\\'s top nuclear negotiator -- the country\\\'s policy, under the supervision of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was to repel threats and \\\"to convert them to opportunities\\\" in order to disprove Western allegations that Iran is pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, and to foil Washington\\\'s plots against the Islamic Republic. \\\"The US wanted to say that Iran is after a [nuclear] bomb. We wanted to prove that the US was lying. Iran\\\'s president-elect Hassan Rohani says he will seek \\\"constructive interaction\\\" with the world through a moderate policy after he takes the oath of office in early August. Iran\'s deputy foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, says the dismantling of the country\'s nuclear facilities is not on the agenda of the ongoing talks with the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany, known as the P5+1 group Arachqi-- who\'s also Iran\'s top nuclear negotiator-- says Iran has stressed that the basis of the talks must be an agreed action-plan. Any subject outside the framework of the plan cannot be negotiated. The Iranian official was speaking with reporters in Vienna, following the first round of the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group. Araqchi said the first round was a good start.
