A mass demonstration marking one-thousand days of anti-government protests in Bahrain. Demonstrators rallied near the capital Manama calling for an inclusive political solution. The main opposition bloc al-Wefaq says several protest organizers have been arrested by regime forces. Al-Wefaq says the arrests have been made to curb people\'s right to hold peacefull rallies. Protesters have been calling for the downfall of the regime since the popular uprising started in February 2011. Dozens of people have been killed and a large number of demonstrators arrested in the crackdown since then.

Bahraini regime forces have arrested several people after they filed official notice of peaceful protests in the Persian Gulf Kingdom. The main opposition group al-Wefaq says that at least three people were arrested after they gave authorities the required official request for a mass protest organized by opposition parties. Al-Wefaq condemned the move, saying authorities are using their power to punish the individuals through arrest. Bahrain has been rocked by anti-regime demonstrations since February 2011. The protesters have been calling for the downfall of the regime. Dozens of people have been killed and a large number of demonstrators arrested in the crackdown since then.

Syrian troops have made more advances, regaining control of key areas in the town of Adra, 30 kilometers from Damascus. During their offensive in the area, the Syrian troops killed a large number of foreign-backed insurgents. The AL-Qaeda linked militants committed atrocities in the area after seizing control of Adra. Members of religious minority groups residing in the city have been the main target of the militant attacks over the past few days. The insurgents executed more than 80 civilians and kidnapped scores of people to be used as human shields. Al-Qaeda linked groups often resort to executions and abductions to frighten the local people.

In Afghanistan, militants have attacked a US military base in the eastern Nangarhar province. Local sources say the attack took place in the town of Torkham near the Pakistan border. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack and say several American soldiers were killed. Our correspondent in Kabul, Fayez Khorshid says US forces have turned into the Taliban\'s main target in recent weeks.

US President Barack Obama is ending his fifth year in office matching the worst public approval ratings of his presidency. A new poll shows that Obama\'s approval rating has hit a new record low. The poll, conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post, shows that just 43 percent of US citizens currently approve the president\'s job performance down 11 points from this time last year. The poll has put the US president\'s disapproval at 55 percent up from 42 percent last year. That\'s the highest unpopularity mark in Obama\'s presidency so far. Political analysts say the US president\'s controversial healthcare law, known as the Obamacare, and his weak national security strategies are some of the main reasons for his waning popularity

Russia takes a swipe at what it calls American double standards with regard to terrorists, saying Washington\'s policy is the main obstacle in the fight against terrorism.

The U-N says nearly a million Palestinians are expected to need food aid in the Gaza Strip next year. About 800-thousand Palestinian refugees are currently receiving food aid from the U-N Relief and Works Agency-- UNRWA-- but the organization expects a 10 to 20 percent rise in demand in 20-14. The U-N\'s Gaza director of operations says the main reason for the increase is Egypt\'s closure of Gaza tunnels-- a measure which has deprived thousands of Palestinians of basic goods, halted construction projects, and led to job losses. The tunnels were the only lifeline for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The coastal enclave has been under the Israeli regime\'s blockade since 2007.

Demonstrators have poured onto the streets of the Yemeni city of Sada\\\\\\\'a for yet another protest against the US and Israel. The protesters stormed the main streets of Sada\\\\\\\'a in the country\\\\\\\'s north, holding placards denouncing the US interference in Yemen\\\\\\\'s affairs. The demonstrators also chanted slogans against the Yemeni government over American drone attacks in the country. The protests come in the wake of a deadly US strike on a wedding in the country, killing 17 people. The US is estimated to have carried out at least a dozen strikes in the province since the start of 2012.

Still with Turkey, riot police have used water cannon and smoke grenade to disperse thousands of Kurdish protesters marching on the Syrian border. The march in the eastern province of Jiz-reh was in solidarity with Syrian Kurds. Demonstrations started peacefully when thousands gather to attend a rally organized by pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party. But clashes broke out when they marched on the Syrian border and crossed into the Arab country. Kurds\' assertiveness during the Syrian conflict has put Turkey in a tough position to deal with the militants from Kurdish Workers Party-- the P-K-K. Ankara has been engaged in a peace process with the P-K-K during the past year despite designating them as a terrorist group. Turkey has also been a main supporter of the insurgency in Syria which has negatively affected the lives of Kurds there.

Syrian opposition sources say over 300 people have been killed in eight days of government airstrikes in the city of Aleppo. Press TV cannon verify the authenticity of the following footage. The opposition accuses Damascus of using TNT-filled crude barrels to bomb insurgent strongholds in the city. It says the tactic fails to distinguish between civilians and militants. The Syrian government has not yet commented on the accusations put forward by the opposition. Meanwhile, the main foreign-backed opposition, the so-called Syrian National Coalition says it will NOT attend planned peace talks in Geneva if government planes continue bombing Aleppo. The city\\\'s been split between insurgents and government forces since a massive militant assault in mid-2012. The army has recently intensified its offensive there to oust the foreign-backed insurgents.

Iran and the representative for United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) have teamed up to prevent the flow of narcotics in Iran from mainly neighboring Afghanistan and also Pakistan. Thursday the UNODC rep met with Iran\\\'s Interior Minister to discuss ways of preventing narcotics trafficking. Trafficking continues to be a major costly and deadly issue for Iran as its over 1900 kilometer border with Afghanistan and Pakistan has frequently been used as the main smuggling routes of drugs to narcotics to the world.

Tribesmen have blown up a major oil pipeline in southern Yemen. Officials say the flow of crude has been halted due to the explosion in Ash-Shihr town of Hadramawt province. This is the second such attack in the past three days. On Thursday, the country\\\'s main oil pipeline was bombed in the central province of Ma\\\'arib. Over the past two years, oil and gas pipelines in Yemen have come under repeated attacks, causing fuel shortages and slashing export earnings in the impoverished country. Yemen depends on oil exports for some 70 percent of government spending.

A leading Pakistani opposition politician accuses Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of secretly supporting deadly US drone attacks in the country. Imran khan-- the head of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party, says the premier has failed to talk forcefully to the US administration about the strikes, despite his earlier pledge. He also criticized the government for refusing to take the issue to the UN Security Council, which under Chapter Seven, can take binding action against the attacks. He made the remarks after Nawaz Sharif implied that anti-drone protests are pushing Pakistan into isolation. Imran khan has been spearheading an anti-drone campaign by blockading main NATO supply routes into Afghanistan. Anti-drone sentiment is running high in the country over civilian casualties of the drone strikes.

State television reported that the violence took place near the university\\\'s main entrance. Two student protesters were killed yesterday during similar protests. More than 100 others were also arrested. Egypt has been witnessing mass anti-government protests since the army toppled the first democratically-elected president in July. Security forces have intensified their crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood supporters after the interim government designated the group as a terrorist organization. The Brotherhood has been organizing anti-government protests. Human Rights Watch denounced the decision as politically-motivated and against the peaceful activities of the group.

There\'s been no claim of responsibility for either of the attacks which come ahead of the Sochi Winter Games scheduled for February. Russian officials have described them as terrorist attacks.

Bagram Jail is still packed with hundreds of prisoners. Some of these cells are being controlled by US forces and some by Afghans. And now these men are reviewing the files of each prisoner there. They are members of a three-panel commission appointed by President Hamid Karzai. So far, they have met 764 prisoners and investigated their cases. And 650 of them have been let go. Others have been found innocent too. They will be released soon. It may be good news for their families, but not for the US military men. They want this move to be blocked. An American military official has been quoted as saying \"These guys are tied directly to killing and trying to kill our forces and Afghan forces\". He also called it an issue of deep concern. And here is how the Afghan commission reacted to their concerns. The main dispute is over 88 inmates. Americans think they will soon return to the battle field and fight back. The move also comes as the relations between President Karzai and White House are already at very low ebb since Karzai refused to let American forces stay beyond 2014. Now, how will this latest dispute unfold, remains to be seen. U-S and Afghan officials have different views on the status of prisoners in Bagram Jail. Afghan government says the prisoners are innocent and there is no evidence to prove that they are terrorists. But the U-S military insists that these prisoners are very dangerous people. And the issue comes at a very sensitive time in relations between Kabul and Afghanistan.

After a week of bloody clashes in southern Yemen, negotiations have resumed in Sana\'a at the national dialogue conference, where the country\'s political factions have been meeting for over the past 8 months to find solutions for the pressing issues. One of the main issues is the southern case which remains unresolved. A new proposal was put forward last week which insists on the creation of a federal system. Southern representatives in the NDC however say justice must first be served for the years of repression sustained in the south under the previous regime.

Bahrain is the scene of yet another anti-government rally. The protest west of Manama was joined by the leader of the main opposition bloc Al-Wefaq. Sheikh Ali Salman attended the rally in the village of Shakhora to condemn the jailing of photographers and activists by the Al Khalifa regime. The protest comes as Manama continues its brutal crackdown against opposition leaders and activists calling for democratic change in the Persian Gulf Kingdom. The Al Khalifa regime has detained hundreds of opposition activists since the revolution started in 20-11. Scores of protesters have died in the crackdown and many others have been given lengthy jail sentences for attending anti-regime protests.
