In Yemen, tens of thousands of Shia mourners have attended the funeral procession of Houthi lawmaker Abel Kareem Jadban in Sana\'a. Jadban\'s body was carried by his Houthi supporters to the capital\'s airport and flown to the northern province of Sa\'da for burial. Jadban was a prominent Houthi lawmaker and the leading politician representing the Shia Houthi community in the national dialog, currently underway in the Arab country. He was gunned down by armed men on a motorbike as he was coming out of a mosque last Friday. The assassination came just weeks after deadly clashes between Houthi fighters and Saudi-backed Salafi militants in the northern town of Damaj.

[23 June 2012] Pakistani traders protest against power outages - English This, otherwise bustling city center in Rawalpindi, is giving a deserted look as traders have shut down their businesses to protest against the long power outages. Normal life has virtually come to a halt in Pakistan's largest province, Punjab, due to crippling strike against the ongoing energy crises. Pakistan is currently in the midst of severe energy shortages with many parts of the country receive only a few hours of electricity a day during the sweltering summer season. Riots have broken out in many parts of the country's Punjab province, which is controlled by the opposition. Angry protesters have attacked and torched public offices and a lawmaker's house in some cities. In his first address to the Parliament after getting elected as the country's Prime Minister, Raja Parvez Ashraf said addressing the energy crises would be his first priority. Prime Minister Ashraf was once in charge of water and power sector and was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects, a charge he strongly denies. Experts attribute the problem to years of underinvestment and bad management in the energy sector.

The two blasts outside Iran\'s diplomatic mission in Beirut have left at least 23 people dead. Informed sources say six security guards of the embassy have also been killed. Over a hundred and 40 others were injured as well. Lebanese officials say Iran\'s cultural attaché Ibrahim Ansari has also been killed. An al-Qaeda-linked group, known as Abdullah Azzam, has claimed responsibilty for the attacks.

He issued the fatwa in late March 2012 in response to a Kuwaiti lawmaker who asked if Kuwait could ban church construction in Kuwait. The fatwa paves the way for adding an article to the new Kuwaiti constitution that forbids building of new churches. Ahl al-Bait assembly condemns the fatwa saying that it is contrary to both Shia and Sunni traditions, and has no precedence in Islamic jurisprudential schools. The assembly also slams the "deadly silence" of Muslim scholars in the face of such fatwa that distort the image of Islam. It also criticizes international human right organizations as well as Western and Christian governments for their support of Saudi regime and Wahhabi doctrine. The chairman of a group of European Catholic Bishops slams the Saudi Mufti by saying that his fatwa "shows no respect for the religious freedom and free co-existence of religions". Iran\\\'s Interior Ministry has hosted the first meeting of the Central Executive Board of the country\\\'s upcoming presidential election. The Thursday meeting was attended by members of the election board and chaired by Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar in the Iranian capital city, Tehran. The meeting came after the Guardian Council (GC) (Iran\\\\\\\'s top election supervisory body) spokesman Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei said on Wednesday that the GC has approved 30 people as members of the Central Executive Board. The board comprises the interior minister, intelligence minister, attorney-general, a lawmaker, and a number of religious, political, cultural and social figures. Based on the amendments made by Iran\\\'s Majlis to the election law last year, the Interior Ministry is tasked with holding the presidential election under the supervision of the Central Executive Board. More than 20 presidential hopefuls have so far declared their presidential bids. Iran\\\'s 11th presidential election will be held on June 14. Presidential hopefuls can register from May 7 to 11. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

Iranian presidential candidate Ali Akbar Velayati says it is possible to fix the Islamic Republic\'s economic problems by reforming the country\'s foreign policy. The Iranian former foreign minister made the remarks in a televised interview in Tehran on Monday. \"The issue of foreign affairs... and the domestic economy have close ties to one another,\" he said.
