There\\\'s been no claim of responsibility for either of the attacks which come ahead of the Sochi Winter Games scheduled for February. Russian officials have described them as terrorist attacks.

The army-appointed Egyptian president Adly Mansour, has issued a legislation that allows citizens to vote outside their constituencies. This comes after pleas to facilitate the electoral process and to give voters more room to express their views. However, some fear the new move will open the door for the rigging, with voters now possessing the means to appear in as many different districts as they can in the upcoming two-day electoral process.

An Al-Qaeda-linked group has issued a threat to Hezbollah, saying it would continue its attacks against the Lebanese resistance movement. In a statement posted on the Internet, the group, known as the Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, says -- Hezbollah and its bases are legitimate targets. The statement comes just three days after the group claimed responsibility for a car bombing in Beirut\'s southern suburbs that killed four people. That was the sixth in a string of terrorist attacks in Lebanon in recent months. Another al-Qaeda-linked outfit, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, carried out a twin bombing in front of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in November. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 people -- including an Iranian diplomat.

The UN refugee agency has issued a report saying 140,000 Iraqis have been forced to flee the fighting between the Iraqi army and al-Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province. Press TV\'s Serena Shim is in Baghdad and has sent us this report.

People will hear about the fate of defendants for whom the bill of indictment has been issued in the biggest fraud case in Iran's history. There are more than a hundred people arrested in this case out of which thirty nine bills of indictment have been issued up to now. The last three defendants for whom a bill of indictment was issued defended themselves in the fifteenth court session, held in Tehran. The lawyers in previous sessions had stated that the people put on trial here had created many jobs and the judge started the session by answering them.

[24 May 2012] What is view of Islam on building Christian churches in Muslim lands - English A recent fatwa issued by a Wahhabi mufti calls for destruction of all churches in the Arabian Peninsula. He issued the fatwa in late March 2012 in response to a Kuwaiti lawmaker who asked if Kuwait could ban church construction in Kuwait. The fatwa paves the way for adding an article to the new Kuwaiti constitution that forbids building of new churches. Ahl al-Bait assembly condemns the fatwa saying that it is contrary to both Shia and Sunni traditions, and has no precedence in Islamic jurisprudential schools. The assembly also slams the "deadly silence" of Muslim scholars in the face of such fatwa that distort the image of Islam. It also criticizes international human right organizations as well as Western and Christian governments for their support of Saudi regime and Wahhabi doctrine. The chairman of a group of European Catholic Bishops slams the Saudi Mufti by saying that his fatwa "shows no respect for the religious freedom and free co-existence of religions". Millions of Iranians have staged anti-Israel rallies in the country to commemorate International Quds Day in support of Palestinians. According to a Press TV reporter, hundreds of thousands turned out in the capital city of the Islamic Republic to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, designated the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan as 'Quds Day' to denounce the continuing Israeli oppression of the innocent and defenseless Palestinian nation. During the rallies, demonstrators made the slogans "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" reverberate throughout the country. The demonstrators in Tehran also issued a statement to condemn the atrocities of Israeli regime in the occupied Palestinian lands. Protestors also demanded the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland, the statement said. "The demonstrators also raised a lot of money for Palestinians in the refugee camps," Press TV reporter said. Muslims and non-Muslims in huge numbers all over the world also demonstrate to renew their dedication to support the Palestinians and to condemn the cruel and illegal Israeli occupation. According to our correspondents in al-Quds (Jerusalem) Palestinians stage the same demonstration to protest the six-decade-old occupation by the Jewish regime. The demonstrations came as the Israeli imposed siege of the Gaza Strip is causing a humanitarian crisis in the region. The 1.5 million residents of Gaza are trapped, lacking food and essential medical supplies. Since the Israeli occupation, over five million Palestinians have been forced to flee their homeland. The remaining five million residing in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem lack an official status; they have citizenship in no state. Iran's president lashes out at Western powers for their opposition to the outcome of the June 12 presidential election. In a Thursday address to thousands of people in the northeastern city of Mashad, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the West has gone as far as setting up satellite channels to influence Iranians against their better judgment. Ahmadinejad, who was speaking during his first provincial trip after the June 12 presidential vote, said foreign countries have no right to insult the choice made during the election. "During the whole election process, certain foreign countries attempted to push the country to the brink of civil war," argued Ahmadinejad. Iran turned into a scene of opposition rallies after the re-election of president Ahmadinejad with nearly two-thirds of the vote. President Ahmadinejad's rivals -- Mehdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi -- reject the election result as fraudulent and have yet to acknowledge the Iranian president's re-election. On June 20, the unrest over the result of the vote took a turn for the worse after protesters, who demanded a re-run of the 10th presidential election, gathered to hold a rally without the official permission of the country's Interior Ministry. The day turned bloody -- increasing the post-vote deaths to at least 20 -- when, according to Iranian officials, terrorist elements infiltrated the rallies. Ahmadinejad went on to say that the West has trouble tolerating an independent nation that takes a stand against their policies. He said Iran would respond to any aggressors in a way that they would forget how to return home. "I have told the enemies that this nation will strike you in the face so hard you will lose your way home," he said. The president said the high voter turnout in the recent elections has caught Westerners off guard and "has foiled all their evil plans". On the Iranian nuclear issue, Ahmadinejad said that his government would remain open to "logic and dialogue" to end the international deadlock. He, however, issued a warning. "If each and every one of the Western countries that oppose Iran's nuclear program joins forces, they would still fail to deprive the Iranian nation of its inalienable nuclear rights," he said.

Yemen's Houthi fighters have accused Saudi Arabia of helping the Yemeni army in its deadly offensive against them in the north-western province of Saada. Zaidi Shia fighters, known as Houthis, issued a statement on Friday saying that at least two Saudi warplanes have bombed their positions in the al-Malahid district. The fighters' statement has been dismissed by the Yemeni army as a baseless allegation. Fighting between Yemeni troops backed by fighter aircraft and Shia fighters has killed dozens, mostly fighters, since the government launched a wide offensive against Shia tribes earlier in the month. The Shia fighters have been engaged in on and off fighting with Yemen's army since 2004. Press TV correspondent in Yemen, Akram Al-Hindi, says the military's campaign against Houthi fighters is expected to intensify in the coming days -- despite the growing civilian death toll. "We have heard that there was a short truce between the government and the Houthi fighters but shortly after that the fighting erupted again," Al-Hindi said. "The treaty which was signed based on Qatar agreement and Doha agreement has been declared dead from the Yemeni government side," he added. According to the correspondent, the Houthi fighters claim that the government is intensifying its military offences and this calls for the end of the truce between the two sides. "This shows that the violence will continue," Al-Hindi concluded. The Houthis say they are defending themselves against religious oppression. The government says it is fighting an armed insurgency seeking to reinstate imamate rule, which ended in a 1962 coup. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 119,000 people from the northwest Yemeni town of Saada are currently displaced.

(UCI earlier said that 12 were arrested.) Oren was interrupted 10 times Monday while trying to give his speech before 500 people at the UCI Student Center, where there was heavy security. Oren took a 20 minute break after the fourth protest, asked for hospitality and resumed his speech, only to be interrupted again by young men yelling at him every few minutes. Many members of the audience also applauded Oren. After the 10th interruption, several dozens students who opposed Oren’s talk got up and walked out and staged a protest outside. It is not clear whether they were members of the UCI Muslim Student Union, which issued an email earlier in the day condemning Oren’s appearance on campus. Oren continued talking, completing his speech at 6:42 p.m. Originally, he planned to take question from the audience. But that was canceled after the repeated delays. The second person yelled about “Zionism.” The third yelled, “Israel.” The fourth could not be clearly heard. UCI Police Chief Paul Henisey said it is not clear whether any of the protesters are UCI students. Mark Petracca, a UCI political science professor, lost his temper and yelled, “This is embarrassing … Shame on all of you.” UCI Chancellor Michael Drake also told the audience that he was embarrassed by the outburst. Drake and Petracca were booed by many people, and applauded by others. Hours earlier, UCI’s Muslim Student Union said in an email today that its members “condemn and oppose the presence of Michael Oren, the ambassador of Israel to the United States, on our campus today. We resent that the Law School and the Political Science Department on our campus have agreed to cosponsor a public figure who represents a state that continues to break international and humanitarian law and is condemned by more UN Human Rights Council resolutions than all other countries in the world combined.” The Jewish Federation Orange County said earlier in the day that it had been informed that Oren’s speech at UC Irvine late today might be disrupted by protestors. Shalom C. Elcott, president of JFOC, said in a statement today that, “We have been informed that some students may attempt to disrupt the event. We want to assure the community that our goal is to create a positive environment — indeed, a sacred space – for open dialogue, intellectual debate and civil discourse that befits a university setting.” This was not the first time that there has been confrontation at a political lecture at UCI. In January 2007, Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum was interrupted by protesters at UCI while giving a speech titled, “The Threat to Israel’s Existence.” The protesters ended up getting into a brief shouting match with some members of the audience.

The Israeli government denies its soldiers used live ammunition during a demonstration in the occupied West Bank on Saturday. The army issued a statement saying its soldiers only fired rubber coated steel bullets against what they described as a "violent and illegal riot" in the village. However, men died when they were hit by what doctors say were live rounds. Israel reportedly plans to launch an investigation.

Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian youths on Saturday during a demonstration in their village, Iraq Burin. The Israeli army then issued a statement alleging its soldiers only used rubber-coated steel bullets in the village. But doctors and human rights organisations say their evidence disproves this account. And Al Jazeera has obtained pictures with the clear sound of gunfire, taken by an activist who was at the incident. With such evidence, the army will now be taking a second look at its soldiers account of events.

Iran says it has executed ringleader of the Pakistan-based Jundallah terrorist group Abdolmalek Rigi arrested while preparing to launch a new round of attacks on the country. Rigi was hanged on Sunday morning in Tehran's Evin prison upon a ruling issued by the country's Islamic Revolution Court, Fars news agency reported. The Jundallah ringleader was charged with 79 counts of various crimes including armed robbery, bombing operations in public places, armed attacks on the army, police personnel, and ordinary civilians, assassination attempts, disrupting regional stability, kidnapping and murder.

'Shourd released over health condition' Iran's decision to release American national Sarah Shourd was based on humanitarian grounds, Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi has told Press TV. Sarah Emily Shourd was released on Tuesday on a bail of $500,000, more than 14 months after she was arrested with two other Americans for illegally entering Iran. "Based on the reports by her lawyer, our investigators and evidence provided by the government... we decided to take the detainee's health situation into consideration and grant her bail," Dolatabadi told Press TV on Tuesday. "Her representatives decided to bail her out... the judge has issued a release order and Ms. Shourd can leave Iran whenever she pleases," he added. Shourd, 31, Shane Michael Bauer and Joshua Felix Fattal, both 27, were arrested in July 2009 after illegally crossing the border from the mountains of Iraq's Kurdistan region. The three Americans were charged with espionage after the Tehran prosecutor found "compelling evidence" that the trio had been cooperating with US intelligence agencies.
