The eleventh round of Iran\'s Presidential Election has just officially begun with the registration process finally underway as of today May 7th in the interior ministry.
Any Iranian national has until May 11 to register, the date on which all the guesswork surrounding who will and who won\'t decide to run, officially comes to an end and the vetting process by the 12-member guardian council made-up of 6 Islamic faqihs or experts in Islamic jurisprudence and 6 jurists begins with a 24 hour break in between.
The contenders themselves can also choose to withdraw anytime from now until the Election Day (June 14, 2013).
The race will officially begin right after the final list of Presidential hopefuls is announced by the interior ministry after which the candidates are allowed to start their election campaigns.
This is while some candidates have already started giving interviews and appearing on university campuses discussing and promoting their agenda.
So far economy seems to top the list of campaign issues and promises given the current economic dire straits faced by the country.
On this edition of the show we take a closer look at the latest election news including the presidential hopefuls\' solutions for improving Iran\'s economy and the livelihood of their fellow citizens.

Iran unveils a new air defense system. On Monday Iran\\\'s Defense Ministry alongside the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Aerospace Force (IRGC AF) unveiled a domestically built mobile air defense system called \\\"Herze 9\\\". Iran\\\'s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi commented on this new achievement. \\\"Herze 9\\\" can identify and target enemy helicopters, rockets and fighter jets at low ranges and low altitudes of about 8-12 kilometers. This mobile air defense system uses the most technologically advanced computer hardware and software and the latest navigation system available today. Brig. Gen. Vahidi said Iran has produced this defense system, despite the recent wave of unilateral sanctions of the west against Iran.

Will the United States lift its illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran? Well, it seems like it won\'t unless Washington stops listening to Israel. But who is mainly affected by the sanctions? Reports from Iran\'s health sector show cancer patients and hemophiliacs are hurt far more than the country\'s nuclear program. The sanctions have hindered Iran\'s international financial transactions. And that has made the importation of vital medicines extremely difficult. The country\'s pharmaceutical industry is also unable to produce those medicines because of a shortage of raw materials. But after the latest round of nuclear talks with Iran, the United States hinted that it\'s ready to ease the pressure. However, Washington is under immense pressure from Israel and Saudi Arabia not to lift its illegal embargo, which is hurting ordinary Iranian citizens.

U-S Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman says she has asked Congress to put new sanctions against Iran on hold.
Sherman -- who is also the main U-S negotiator in the negotiations on Iran\'s nuclear energy program -- says the pause should be taken to see whether talks with Iran can gain traction. The remarks come days after Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany held a new round of talks in Geneva to resolve issues related to Tehran\'s nuclear energy program. Over the past few years, the U-S Congress has imposed several rounds of illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran to pressure the country to halt the uranium enrichment component of its nuclear energy program.

This, as an American delegation, including experts from the country\'s State and Treasury Departments, is also present. The last meeting of the two sides was held in Geneva on October 15 and 16. Following the talks described by both sides as constructive, Tehran and the six powers decided to send their experts to Vienna at the end of October to discuss details of Iran\'s new proposal to resolve outstanding issues over its nuclear energy program. The latest talks come as Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency wrapped up two days of negotiations on Tuesday, which were also described as very productive.

Israel has not been alone in its opposition to the newly brokered nuclear deal with Iran. Now Canada\'s foreign minister says he\'s skeptical about the international community\'s agreement with Iran.
Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird says his country will keep its financial and trade sanctions against Iran in place. Canada\'s Conservative government, which is a staunch ally of Israel, has banned nearly all exports to and imports from Iran over Tehran\'s nuclear energy program. Canada also shut its embassy in Tehran in 2012 and ordered Iranian diplomats to leave Ottawa.

A Saudi foreign policy advisor has expressed concern over a nuclear deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.
Abdullah al-Askar says Saudi Arabia would make efforts toward building a nuclear bomb, in case the deal fails to prevent Iran from what he called nuclear weapons. So far, the Saudi government has not shown any official reaction to the deal signed between Iran and the P-five-plus-one in Geneva. However, Saudis in recent weeks have spoken out against a rapprochement between Iran and the US. Riyadh has also been pressuring Washington to maintain a tough stance on Tehran over its nuclear energy program.

Rouhani stressed that his administration managed to neutralize a rift of unilateral and multilateral sanctions imposed on Iran. He was briefing the Iranian nation on his first one-hundredth day since he took office. The Iranian president also said the country\'s enemies that tried to spread Irano-phobia across the world are isolated more than ever.

A British lawmaker has slammed Israel\'s attempts to undermine the recent deal between Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.
Galloway says Tel Aviv is trying to undermine Iran\'s nuclear deal while it never allows the IAEA to inspect its nuclear sites. He says Israel accuses Iran of being after nukes, while Tehran has had regular international inspections. The British MP says Iran has never invaded any country in centuries and never occupied anyone else\'s territory. He said Tehran is also a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, whereas Tel Aviv is not and also stands guilty of invasion and occupation. Galloway called Israel an international law-breaker which is not facing any penalties.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has rejected as baseless any report on the slowdown of some parts of the country\'s nuclear program.
Ali Akbar Salehi noted that Iran\'s nuclear program is going on at full throttle. He went on to say that despite western media claims, the recent deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Councils is not aimed at stopping Iran\'s enrichment program. Salehi said Tehran is conducting researches on different generations of centrifuges with the full knowledge of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He also warned the P5+1 group against misinterpreting Tehran\'s good will in the nuclear talks.
