The BBC, ITV and the Evening Standard have launched attacks on Ken Livingstone for presenting Epilogue on Press TV. Both the BBC and ITV had contributions from the head of the British Zionist Federation on the program.
Events in Tunisia and Tony Blair's refusal to hand over to the Iraq war inquiry and his letters to President George Bush in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq are among the other issues Derek Conway and the callers talk about

[12 Aug 2012] New Delhi Muslims arrange iftar for Rohingiya Muslim Refugees - English
These people would cherish to have such evening coming every day in their life, but they can have it just once.
Sunday evening was a moment of joy for hundreds of rohingiya muslims in New Delhi who have been ignored by the world community and left into destitution.
A nonprofit organization khudai khidmatgaar arranged an iftaar for these people who are running short of food supplies, water and other basic essentials during this holy month of Ramadan.

Gaza Photo Expo Threatened with Closure - 16Feb2010 - English

On Monday, Feb. 15th, Cinema du Parc received an email insisting that CJPME's Photo Exposition, Human Drama in Gaza, be immediately removed from the Cinema. The email was from a legal representative of Gestion Redbourne PDP Inc., the owners of the building housing Cinema du Parc. The Cinema has hosted dozens of expositions in the past three years, and this is the first time that such action has been taken. This move on the part of Redbourne seems entirely political, to muzzle the message of Human Drama in Gaza.
If you live outside Montreal, click here (http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103051037264&s=16948&e=001lbx5DoOzK2lQ2AkszhAXAcw77yHdCXtCL8T0qJpd4L_1Nbb17CtbwXJvymCoHeOkYqGvkWUSWVEuH0gY0YTHWYo2RySXVSbYQdNd_gXJkkyFSlO25c9M2C6OBYbWHHnXJVQatP5EzstlidTU5Qk2fQ==) to protest this action.
On Monday, Feb. 15th, the critically acclaimed Human Drama in Gaza
Photo Exposition in Montreal was threatened with closure by Gestion Redbourne PDP Inc., the real
estate management firm owning the property housing the Exposition. A legal representative of
Redbourne, Lieba Shell, sent an email late in the day to the exposition host, Cinema du Parc,
ordering the removal of the exposition and threatening legal action if the exposition were not taken
down by evening. Cinema du Parc and Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East
(CJPME) – the producer of the exposition – asserted through their legal advisor, Mark H. Arnold,
that such threats from Redbourne were not lawful.
Human Drama in Gaza was launched in mid-January, and received very positive reviews in several
media. Redbourne, however, demanded the removal of the exposition based on a paragraph in the
lease that Cinema du Parc has with Redbourne relating to “purely cinemagraphic use” of the
premises. Arnold, however, asserted that the cinema’s hosting of a photo exposition would very
much constitute cinemagraphic use of the premises. Officials with Cinema du Parc also pointed out
that the cinema has hosted dozens of photo expositions in the past several years, and has never had
a complaint from Redbourne, the landlord.
“This move on the part of Redbourne is clearly political,” declared Thomas Woodley, President of
CJPME. “Cinema du Parc is known for its ongoing expositions which touch on important issues of
social concern, and Redbourne never had an issue in the past.” Last week, both Cinema du Parc
and Place du Parc (the shopping mall housing the cinema and owned by Redbourne) received
emails and calls from individuals unhappy with the Human Drama in Gaza exposition. The
complaints accused the exposition of being anti-Israel, but stopped short of questioning the
credibility of the exposition content. “The suffering of the 1.5 million people of Gaza is an
important social issue like any other,” asserted Woodley. “The fact that certain people wish to stifle
open discussion on Gaza is even more a reason to bring the debate out into the open.”
According to CJPME, the exposition itself seeks to put a human face to the misery of the people of
Gaza, and the poignant resilience of a people facing severe adversity. The captions accompanying
the photos cite statistics and legal analyses of Israel’s 22-day assault on Gaza of last winter. The
legal advisor to CJPME pointed out that if security forces from Redbourne were to attempt to
forcibly remove the exposition, they would be considered trespassers. As such, Arnold concluded,
the “Cinema staff have been advised to immediately call the police.”
About CJPME – Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is a non-profit and secular
organization bringing together men and women of all backgrounds who labour to see justice and peace take

Produced by CJPME, and funded through private donations, the Montreal stop at Cinema du Parc is the first in a series of cross-Canada shows.
The Montreal Exposition began on Friday, Jan. 15th and was originally scheduled to continue through through Sunday, February 28th. The Exposition is open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays, and from 3:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on weekends. All the photos and captions used in the Exposition can be found here, and a video trailer introducing the Exposition can be found here.
Cinema du Parc has been great partner in the hosting of the Exposition in Montreal, and is standing its ground in the face of Redbourne's action.

Contributed by Herald. February 8th, 2010, 6:01 pm Eleven people were arrested Monday evening during a raucous lecture at UC Irvine where Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren came to talk about U.S.-Israel relations. (UCI earlier said that 12 were arrested.) Oren was interrupted 10 times Monday while trying to give his speech before 500 people at the UCI Student Center, where there was heavy security. Oren took a 20 minute break after the fourth protest, asked for hospitality and resumed his speech, only to be interrupted again by young men yelling at him every few minutes. Many members of the audience also applauded Oren. After the 10th interruption, several dozens students who opposed Oren’s talk got up and walked out and staged a protest outside. It is not clear whether they were members of the UCI Muslim Student Union, which issued an email earlier in the day condemning Oren’s appearance on campus. Oren continued talking, completing his speech at 6:42 p.m. Originally, he planned to take question from the audience. But that was canceled after the repeated delays. The second person yelled about “Zionism.†The third yelled, “Israel.†The fourth could not be clearly heard. UCI Police Chief Paul Henisey said it is not clear whether any of the protesters are UCI students. Mark Petracca, a UCI political science professor, lost his temper and yelled, “This is embarrassing … Shame on all of you.†UCI Chancellor Michael Drake also told the audience that he was embarrassed by the outburst. Drake and Petracca were booed by many people, and applauded by others. Hours earlier, UCI’s Muslim Student Union said in an email today that its members “condemn and oppose the presence of Michael Oren, the ambassador of Israel to the United States, on our campus today. We resent that the Law School and the Political Science Department on our campus have agreed to cosponsor a public figure who represents a state that continues to break international and humanitarian law and is condemned by more UN Human Rights Council resolutions than all other countries in the world combined.†The Jewish Federation Orange County said earlier in the day that it had been informed that Oren’s speech at UC Irvine late today might be disrupted by protestors. Shalom C. Elcott, president of JFOC, said in a statement today that, “We have been informed that some students may attempt to disrupt the event. We want to assure the community that our goal is to create a positive environment — indeed, a sacred space – for open dialogue, intellectual debate and civil discourse that befits a university setting.†This was not the first time that there has been confrontation at a political lecture at UCI. In January 2007, Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum was interrupted by protesters at UCI while giving a speech titled, “The Threat to Israel’s Existence.†The protesters ended up getting into a brief shouting match with some members of the audience.

Lebanon condemns Quran burning plan
Lebanese President Michel Sleiman has condemned a US church\'s plan to burn copies of the Muslim holy book to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11 attacks.
Speaking on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Sleiman said on Wednesday that the controversial decision contradicts Christian teachings and humanitarian values such as love and respect, a Press TV correspondent reported.
\"The president condemns the announcement of a religious group in the United States of its intention to openly burn copies of the Quran,\" read a statement released by the president\'s office.
Burning the Quran \"is a clear contradiction of the teachings of the three Abrahamic religions and of dialogue among the three faiths,\" Christianity, Islam and Judaism, AFP quoted the Christian president as saying.
Pastor Terry Jones, who is part of the Dove World Outreach Center, a small evangelical Christian church in Gainesville, Florida, with an anti-Islam philosophy, has threatened to burn some 200 copies of the Quran on Saturday evening, the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
The threat has drawn international condemnation with Muslims launching protest rallies around the globe.
US officials have also denounced the plan but no legal measure has been taken yet to block the blasphemous move.
The US State Department also called the move \"un-American,\" while the US Attorney General Eric Holder called the idea \"idiotic and dangerous.\"
EU Foreign Affairs Chief Catherine Ashton condemned the planned act, while Arab League chief Amr Mussa dubbed Jones a \"fanatic\".
The Vatican council has blasted the Florida church\'s scheme as an \"outrageous and grave gesture against a book considered sacred by a religious community.\"
Many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Indonesia have already held massive demonstrations against the US church\'s intent.

The holy month's beginning is based on sighting of the moon which is usually confirmed by religious authorities. However in multicultural Ukraine, some Muslim communities go ahead with the date announced by their countries of origin and others follow the date of their country of residence.
The holy days of Ramadan begin and end with the prayers. The evening prayer is followed by the fastbreaking iftar. In Ukraine Iftar menu is as multicultural as Ukrainian Muslims are.
Fasting is intended to remind Muslims of self-discipline and self-restraint. During Ramadan, Muslims avoid from eating, drinking and smoking during the daylight. They have food twice a day, one before sun rises and the other after the sun set.
Fasting in Ukraine has its own features, says this mufti. For instance the daylight length in the country may climb to 18 hours. Ukrainian Muslims also point to the high humidity of the climate which makes people feel the heat.
However most Muslims in Ukraine don't see any problem in this
This year Ukrainian Muslim communities invited muftis from Saudi Arabia and Egypt to perform readings during Ramadan. The holy month will be also marked by charities and sharing food with the needy.

550 Palestinians were released from Israeli prisons on Sunday evening in the second and final phase of a prisoner swap deal between Hamas and Israel where 1,027 Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel
in exchange for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
The freed prisoners were received by thousands of cheering family members and friends gathered in Ramallah to receive them. Out of the 550 freed prisoners, two are from Jerusalem al-Quds, 506 are from other parts of the West Bank, 40 from Gaza, and 2 are Jordanian. Also, Israel released 55 out of the 164 under-the-age-of-18-years-old Palestinian prisoners and 6 out of the 11 female prisoners.
Before the release of the prisoners, confrontations broke out between anticipating Palestinian youth and the Israeli occupation forces in front of the Israeli Ofar prison, where the West bank prisoners were released from. 25 Palestinians and 1 Israeli soldier were wounded.
400 out of the 550 prisoners released on Sunday have finished two-thirds of their sentences.
Since the first phase of the prisoner exchange, Israel has detained approximately the same number of Palestinians that it freed 2 months ago. Now The Palestinians have concerns that Israel will replace the
550 prisoners freed today with the same number of Palestinians in their prisons within the next few months.

Muslims in Brussels are still mourning the death of an imam who died of suffocation a couple of days ago. The 46-year-old imam, Abdallah Dadou, was in this Shia mosque to lead an evening prayer when a man came in and set the place on fire after spreading flammable liquid.
Apart from being sad, Muslims here are also shocked by the attack. According to the police, the suspect, now in custody, identified himself a Salafi.
Salafi extremists have always tried to put a rift between Sunnis and Shias but worshippers here say Sunnis and Shias have never had any problems living together in this country.
Experts agree that this attack does not represent reality. Semsettin Ugurlu is the president of the Muslim Executive of Belgium [shot of him]. He says he has never seen anything but good relationships between the two religious groups.
The official motivations for the attack are still under investigation. But Ugurlu says there is a lesson to be learned and a question to be answered: what led the attacker to do this? Was he influenced by certain books or by things he read on the Internet? There are still no answers. The only reality for now is the shock and sorrow of Muslims - here in Brussels and in the rest of the country.
As the worshippers behind me mourn the death of the imam, they emphasize that Shiite and Sunni Muslims have always lived in peace together here in Belgium. They also say Europe needs to make sure that such a crime will not happen again.
