Clashes have once again erupted between Egyptian police and students at Cairo\'s al-Azhar University. Egyptian security forces fired tear gas to disperse students protesting in support of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. The protesters managed to take their march outside the university campus and blocked a main road as they chanted against the military that ousted Morsi in July. The protesters were seen throwing rocks at security forces and a number of students were arrested. There are no immediate reports on casualties. Clashes also erupted on Sunday when students tried to move their protest out of the campus.

Our Beirut correspondent says clashes have erupted between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the flashpoint city. The clashes have so far claimed one life and left nearly a dozen others injured. Residents in two of Tripoli\'s prominent neighborhoods Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh often engage in violent clashes over their political and religious affiliations.

In northern Yemen, heavy clashes have erupted between Shia Houthi fighters and pro-Salafi tribal militants. Militants have launched missiles at civilian homes in the town on Houth. This comes after Houthis took control of the town as well as the village of Khamri from tribal gunmen. The advances are considered huge victories for the Shia fighters following weeks of battles with pro-Salafi militants. Houthi fighters and gunmen from the Hashid tribe have been engaged in heavy fighting since early January. Hundreds of people have lost their lives in the clashes since October.

Reports coming out of Syria say fighting has erupted between Syrian forces and several militant groups in different neighborhoods there. Scores of insurgents have reportedly been killed during the clashes. The army has intensified its operations in recent months, managing to clear more areas from militants. Damascus blames them for the bloodshed which has gripped Syria since 20-11. It says they\'re being funded and armed by certain countries, mainly Saudi Arabia.

Indian troops kill dozens in Kashmir At least 18 people have been killed and over 100 injured in Indian-controlled Kashmir as soldiers open fire on pro-independence rallies in disputed Himalayan region. Security forces opened fire on tens of thousands of protesters in the Budgam and Tangmarg areas. An Indian soldier was also killed in the violence. The protests were particularly intense following the news of the desecration of the Quran in the US. On Sunday, India imposed a curfew in many areas of Kashmir. However, people have been pouring out to the streets across Kashmir to protest against Indian rule despite the curfews. The latest round of public outrage began after a government forces' teargas grenade killed a teenager back in June. More than 80 protesters and by-standers have lost their lives during the unrest ever since. "Death to the US!" and "Death to Quran desecrators!" chanted the protesters, who described the act as despicable. The protesters also called for punishment of those behind the desecration of the Quran. "These are absolutely pro-Islam protests and we demand befitting punishment to those who have desecrated the holy Quran. No Muslim anywhere in the world will watch the desecration of the holy Quran as a mute spectator. This protest is beyond borders and nationalities," a 55-year-old Kashmiri said. Although an American pastor cancelled earlier plans to burn copies of the Quran, other anti-Islam elements in the US desecrated the holy book in New York and in Washington on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The protest rallies in Srinagar erupted after local television showed a small group of protesters tearing apart and burning pages from the Muslim holy book outside the White House on Saturday. State Chief Secretary SS Kapur made the announcement in Kashmir's summer capital of Srinagar on Monday. "We have decided to impose a ban on the airing of Press TV broadcasts by local cable operators," Kapur told reporters. The ban comes as Press TV has become popular across the Muslim-majority region due to its enhanced coverage of the regional events over the past three months. Media organizations have strongly condemned the move and demanded that the government put the channel back on air. However, reports say more and more people in Kashmir continue to get their news from Press TV via internet services or direct broadcast satellites. In a separate development, hundreds of Kashmiris have come out to the streets to voice their anger over the desecration of Islam's holy book in the US. Protests were held in the Indian-administered region's main city of Srinagar, and its neighboring districts despite strict curfews in place. The protesters, who were shouting anti-US slogans, described the act as despicable, calling for the punishment of those behind the desecration of the Quran. Tens of thousands of anti- government protesters have taken to the streets across the country on a day dubbed loyalty to the blood of martyrs. Protesters gathered in the change square of Sana'a and chanted anti-government slogans, denouncing the US -Saudi brokered deal as it gives Ali Abdullah Saleh immunity from prosecution. They condemned the killing of peaceful march of life calling for the expulsion of US Ambassador to Yemen over his latest remarks. Earlier, Dirald Firstien stated that if two thousands protesters staged a march toward the WHIT house, they would be deterred from reaching it. This comes as strikes are spreading through the capital Sana'a. Government employees staged rallies demanding for reforms and the firing of senior corrupted managers. While, the Military commission plans to continue lifting barricades to the north of capital Sana'a, clashes erupted once again between republican guards and tribal armed men loyal to dissident tribal leader of Hashied Federation, Sadiq Al-Ahmar. During its Tuesday's session, the parliament gave the trust to the newly unity government. Political analysts predict that protests would continue with no end in sight until people's demands are met. The impoverished country has been hit by daily anti-government protests since late January demanding an end to corruption and unemployment. As violent clashes have erupted once again in Al-Hassabah region, threatening the power transfer brokered deal, the protesters call for the continuation of their revolution in loyalty to the blood of martyrs, vowing to prosecute who they describe as killers and corrupted people.

Yemen's Houthi fighters have accused Saudi Arabia of helping the Yemeni army in its deadly offensive against them in the north-western province of Saada. Zaidi Shia fighters, known as Houthis, issued a statement on Friday saying that at least two Saudi warplanes have bombed their positions in the al-Malahid district. The fighters' statement has been dismissed by the Yemeni army as a baseless allegation. Fighting between Yemeni troops backed by fighter aircraft and Shia fighters has killed dozens, mostly fighters, since the government launched a wide offensive against Shia tribes earlier in the month. The Shia fighters have been engaged in on and off fighting with Yemen's army since 2004. Press TV correspondent in Yemen, Akram Al-Hindi, says the military's campaign against Houthi fighters is expected to intensify in the coming days -- despite the growing civilian death toll. "We have heard that there was a short truce between the government and the Houthi fighters but shortly after that the fighting erupted again," Al-Hindi said. "The treaty which was signed based on Qatar agreement and Doha agreement has been declared dead from the Yemeni government side," he added. According to the correspondent, the Houthi fighters claim that the government is intensifying its military offences and this calls for the end of the truce between the two sides. "This shows that the violence will continue," Al-Hindi concluded. The Houthis say they are defending themselves against religious oppression. The government says it is fighting an armed insurgency seeking to reinstate imamate rule, which ended in a 1962 coup. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, an estimated 119,000 people from the northwest Yemeni town of Saada are currently displaced.

Israeli forces have stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied East Jerusalem Al-Quds and cordoned off its premises where dozens of Palestinian protesters had gathered. Eyewitnesses said that Israeli policemen had encircled the Al-Aqsa Mosque since the early morning hours and clashes erupted in the holy complex after the Israeli forces raided the area to push out the Palestinians. The protesters responded to the attack by throwing stones. Several people were injured and dozens more detained in the unrest.

SOHO (NASA-ESA Solar & Heliospheric Observatory) watched as a fairly bright comet dove towards the Sun in a white streak and was not seen again after its close encounter (May 10-11, 2011). The comet, probably part of the Kreutz family of comets, was discovered by amateur astronomer Sergey Shurpakov. In this coronagraph the Sun (represented by a white circle) is blocked by the red occulting disk so that the faint structures in the Sun's corona can be discerned. Interestingly, a coronal mass ejection blasted out to the right just as the comet is approaching the Sun. Scientists, however, have yet to find a convincing physical connection between sun-grazing comets and coronal mass ejections. In fact, analysis of this CME using images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory shows that the CME erupted before the comet came close enough to the solar surface to interact with strong magnetic fields

In this edition of the show George talks about the unrest which rocked Britain in a scale unprecedented in 30 years following the police's killing of black male Mark Duggan in a shooting spree in the London suburb of Tottenham last Thursday. The security forces fatally shot the 26-year-old after stopping his minicab to make an arrest as part of a preplanned operation. Tension erupted on Saturday, when a few hundred people gathered outside a police station in Tottenham to protest the killing. The protests have spread to major cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol.

It was in February 2011 when thousands of Bahrainis most of them from the country's Shia majority took to the streets to demand political reform. The Bahraini government reacted to the protests with a mixture of violent repression, and offers of limited concessions. More than seven months later this time in New York City and on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Bahrainis and their supporters gather to call on the government of Hamed Bin Khalifa to end its brutal oppression against its people. While the gathering is a humble one, the demonstrator's voices are loud and clear, they're calling for a free Bahrain for all. The demonstrators stand united in front of the Bahraini mission where the Kingdom's ambassador to the UN is rumored to be having lunch with King Khalifa, the ruler of Bahrain. While the ill treatment of the Shia population has made headlines around the world since protests erupted, for many demonstrators here the rally is about upholding core human values, regardless of religious affiliations. Hussain Abdullah, Director of the advocacy group Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain says the majority of the population are living under state oppression and the government needs to know that the voices of reason will not remain silent. With posters and banners in hand and the Bahraini flag raised in the air the demonstrators hope gatherings like these big or small will garner the attention and support of the international community.

Clashes have erupted between pro and anti Assad groups in northern Lebanon and news of a group of Lebanese pilgrims abducted by anti-government armed groups in Syria. Is Syrian violence spreading into the neighboring country and is the a deliberate attempt to do just that?

Security forces on Friday fired teargas and sound grenades at the demonstrating crowds in several towns and villages around the Bahraini capital, Manama. Clashes then erupted between government forces and the pro-democracy protesters demanding the ouster of the Al Khalifa regime. Several people were injured during the demonstrations. The protesters also voiced their anger at the US government for its support of the Manama regime. Anti-American sentiments are high in Bahrain after Washington announced earlier this month that it would resume arms sales to Bahrain. However, Bahraini opposition groups and activists condemned the decision, saying it could encourage further human rights violations in the Persian Gulf country. Press TV has conducted an interview with Kamel Wazni, political analyst, to hear his opinion on this issue. The following is a rough transcription of the interview. Press TV: First of all we are hearing slogans on the streets in Bahrain against the United States now besides those slogans that were against the regime. People it seems are now very strongly and clearly saying that they want the United States to cut its support for the Manama regime, however we are seeing that support continue. Do you think that these slogans are going to be heard by Washington? Wazni: Obviously they will resonate in the White House and on the streets of America because this is the voice of the people and for very long time the Americans felt they are not mentioned on the streets and the Americans know sometimes this hostility that is taking place by the Bahrainis because they continue support of the Americans for the Bahraini regime and the approval of the Americans to sell weapons and arms to the Bahraini regime despite the crackdown that is taking place by the Bahraini regime against the civilian demonstrators of the country. I think there is voice on the streets saying anyone who sided with the criminals who are committing crimes against humanity should be condemned and today because the Bahraini authority, the Bahraini monarchy is committing crime and America being accomplice to this crime, then you see the people are voicing their sentiment and making their voice to be heard across the world. They are not intimidated, they are not afraid. They wanted democratic system and a country, that is the basic principle of human dignity to live free in his own or her own country where will be no discrimination, no crackdown, no torture. This is the basic principle of any human wanted to live in peace and prosperity and the Americans by siding with the Bahraini regime preventing the aspiration of the Bahraini people to make this happen so the Americans should not be shocked by what they are hearing. That is what they actually worked on by helping the Bahraini authority and if Obama is listening and Mrs. Clinton should listen to the human rights when they actually condemn the torture that is taking place by the Bahraini government. The systematic torture that is taking [place] day after day should be heard by the American administration. There are a lot of committees being established by the UN bodies, by even the King and they all indicated there is a huge torture and killing taking place on the streets of Bahrain. So is anybody listening? Press TV: What you referred there to the United Nations also other human rights groups we know for instance that the UN Human Rights Council recently in Geneva started to discuss the situation in Bahrain. We know groups like Amnesty International and other human rights organizations in and outside of Bahrain have been saying they have documents and proved that these violations are taking place but does that mean that they are going to give any support to the Bahraini revolutionaries and do you think without that support on the ground the Bahraini revolution can get anywhere? Wazni: Well obviously the public opinion on the international appeal is important but eventually the legwork has to be done by the people of Bahrain because the people of Bahrain made a pledge and they are determined to carry their own cause despite all the obstacles and all the atrocity that is committed by the Bahraini regime against the civilian in Bahrain. But having the public support of the international community from the UN, from other bodies is actually attested to the reality that is taking place. There is a crime taking place in Bahrain by the monarchy, by the royal family supported by the Americans and somebody has to listen but I do not think the Bahraini people are counting on the West or the Americans because they think the Americans are participant in what is taking place in Bahrain and despite all of that they have the will and the determination to carry their cause to the end. They know the sacrifice and they are willing to take that sacrifice and we hear the leadership of the Bahraini talking, when we hear Sheikh Ghasem say this is the will of the people and they will carry their duty to bring honorable justice to Bahrain despite all the killing and torture [that] is committed by the Bahraini with the help of the Saudis. The people will prevail in the end, will be costly process but you have to trust the people and the people will carry their duties.

[29 May 2012] 'Syria must curb armed gangs with iron fist' - English Pressure is mounting on Syria as a number of countries including European states are expelling Syrian ambassadors and diplomats. France, Britain, Spain, Germany, and Italy say the expulsions are in response to the Friday massacre of civilians in Houla. Canada and Australia are doing the same. British foreign secretary William Hague says the US will also take similar action. This is the latest form of pressure by Western states and their allies on the Syrian government that blame Damascus for killing civilians since unrest erupted in Syria over a year ago. Britain says the pressure will increase. Press TV has conducted an interview with Haitham Alsibahie, from the Syrian Social Club in London, to further talk over the issue.

The Lebanese army has enhanced its deployment in this area upon a decision by the Lebanese cabinet. The step came after armed groups launched attacks on the Syrian army from Lebanese territory, prompting the Syrian army to respond and thus resulting in Lebanese civilian casualties. Sources from the Lebanese army told press TV that a number of anti Syrian armed elements wounded in clashes were being treated in hospitals in Northern and also Eastern Lebanon.

Protesters are calling for the resignation of the Turkish Prime Minister Raccipp Tayipp Erdogan, They accuse him of being a dictator and believe he does whatever he pleases without any checks and balances or public approval. Sunday night, Turkey saw some of the worst clashes since the protests erupted, as police and demonstrators went head to head in Bashtakash area of Istanbul. Protesters were trying to barricade an office belonging to Erdogan. Police have used large pieces of cement to block off the streets leading to Taksim Square. Clashes have erupted between Syrian army forces and foreign-backed militants in the suburbs of the country\\\'s largest city, Aleppo, Press TV reports. Syrian army forces clashed with militants as they advanced from three directions to liberate the city and cut off insurgents supply lines in the north, a Press TV correspondent reported from Syria on Monday. Army troops have also managed to block an insurgent assault on the Minnegh air base and Aleppo\\\'s Central Prison. The Syrian army launched a major operation to clear the northwestern city of Aleppo of the foreign-backed militants on Sunday. The Syrian army has scored victories against the militants in recent days, liberating the strategic towns of Qusayr, Qunaytirah and Daba\\\'a in the west. Qusayr was an important center and supply route for the armed groups

Friday marked the sixth year of Hamas regaining control of Gaza after routing forces loyal to acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas. Hamas democratically won the Palestinian legislative elections in 2006 but in the middle of June 2007 Fatah forces tried to end Hamas\'s rule. In the days leading to June 14th 2007 armed clashes erupted between Fatah and Hamas forces and ended with the defeat of Fatah forces.

Syria\'s economy has worsened dramatically since the ongoing unrest erupted more than two years ago, bringing hardships to Syrians day by day.
