The Indian economy is facing further trouble. There is a financial crunch in the global markets. This will dry up the foreign investments in the country. Rising interest rates in United States has triggered the crisis. Investors are selling-off in the Asian stock markets. They have already withdrawn heavily from Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Indian rupee too has already depreciated by 8% in the last few weeks and that is going to push inflation. The country imports most of it crude oil requirement. Oil is its single biggest import commodity. The retail prices of petrol and Diesel has been increased. Gold is another major import component.

India has the worst record of crimes against women in the world even though many people do not report it to avoid public disgrace. The major cities of India are becoming increasingly unsafe for women, and the government seems to have failed to tackle the problem.
The recent rape case that occurred in New Delhi was alarming to the Indian society. The criminals go without trials and the ultimate sufferers are women. On this week\'s INFocus we discuss the status of women in India and what measures the government has taken against the crimes as well as a review on the Indian legal system.

The U-N says nearly a million Palestinians are expected to need food aid in the Gaza Strip next year.
About 800-thousand Palestinian refugees are currently receiving food aid from the U-N Relief and Works Agency-- UNRWA-- but the organization expects a 10 to 20 percent rise in demand in 20-14. The U-N\'s Gaza director of operations says the main reason for the increase is Egypt\'s closure of Gaza tunnels-- a measure which has deprived thousands of Palestinians of basic goods, halted construction projects, and led to job losses. The tunnels were the only lifeline for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The coastal enclave has been under the Israeli regime\'s blockade since 2007.

Indians take to streets to vent their anger at the U-S. They\'re protesting the arrest and strip-search of a female Indian diplomat in New York.
The venue of the protests is outside the U-S embassy compound in New Delhi. The building has no barricades now to protect it from possible attacks. Earlier in the day, New Delhi police used tow trucks to remove the barrier along the embassy in retaliation. India is furious after its consul in New York was arrested and strip-searched by U-S police. The diplomat says she broke down after repeated handcuffing, stripping and cavity searches. Lawmakers at the Indian parliament are urging the government to take the issue very seriously.

Three Indian peacekeepers are confirmed dead in an attack on a UN base in South Sudan.
India\'s UN envoy says the peacekeepers were targeted and killed during an attack by a group of ethnic youths on the base in Jonglei state. The attackers were apparently chasing civilians who had taken refuge in the base. The attack on the UN base came after troops loyal to fugitive former vice president Riek Machar seized the town of Bor late Wednesday. Hundreds of people have been killed in South Sudan since violence broke out in the country on Sunday.
