[11 July 2012] Dangerous days ahead for Egypt - English Egypt's highest court has overturned Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi's decree reinstating the North African county's parliament. The ruling of the Supreme Constitutional Court was announced on Tuesday, hours after the parliament reconvened briefly on the same day by a presidential decree, the Associated Press reported. On Sunday, Morsi issued a decree reinstating the dissolved parliament in defiance of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which dissolved the parliament on June 16 in line with an earlier ruling by the Supreme Constitutional Court. The move to reinstate the parliament is the first showdown between Morsi and the country's powerful military. Press TV has conducted an interview with Nabil Mikhail, professor of political science at the George Washington University to further discuss the issue.

[11 July 2012] Where the new Egypt is headed - News Analysis - English Tension is building in Egypt as the Supreme Constitutional Court suspends a presidential decree reinstating the dissolved parliament. President Mohammed Morsi had ordered lawmakers to get to work and the chamber held a brief session on Tuesday. The reinstatement of parliament is being seen as the first confrontation between Egypt's new president and the country's powerful military. This edition of News Analysis asks where the new Egypt is headed.

The army-appointed Egyptian president Adly Mansour, has issued a legislation that allows citizens to vote outside their constituencies. This comes after pleas to facilitate the electoral process and to give voters more room to express their views. However, some fear the new move will open the door for the rigging, with voters now possessing the means to appear in as many different districts as they can in the upcoming two-day electoral process.

Egypt\\\'s interim president, Adly Mansour, has issued a decree giving himself power to make laws after consulting with the new government. The decree said that a constitutional assembly would be formed in two weeks, and a constitutional referendum would be held within four-and-a-half months. Parliamentary elections would be held within 15 days of the constitution\\\'s approval by a referendum. Those elections must be held \\\"over a period of no more than two months.\\\" New presidential elections would be called once the new legislative chamber is in place, the decree said. Since last week, Egypt has been the scene of rival rallies and clashes between thousands of supporters and opponents of the ousted president. Morsi is reportedly being held \\\"preventively\\\" by the military. Senior army officials say he might face formal charges over accusations made by his opponents. Assad, she said, would draft laws to provide for media freedoms and allow political movements other than the Baath party, which has ruled for half a century. Assad, who succeed his late father Hafez al-Assed in 2000, had, Shaaban said, decreed the drafting of a law for political parties "to be presented for public debate" and would strive above all to raise living standards across the country.
