Medics tell Press TV they have found traces of depleted uranium in some Gazan residents wounded in Israel's ground offensive into the strip.
Norwegian medics told Press TV correspondent Akram al-Sattari that some of the victims who have been wounded since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on December 27 have traces of depleted uranium in their bodies.
The report comes after Israeli tanks and troops swept across the border into Gaza on Saturday night, opening a ground operation after eight days of intensive attacks by Israeli air and naval forces on the impoverished region.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned on Sunday that the wide-ranging ground offensive in the Gaza Strip would be "full of surprises."
A ground offensive in the densely-populated Gaza is expected to drastically increase the death toll of the civilian population.
The latest assaults bring the number of Palestinians killed to over 488 with 2790 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths - including at least 34 children.
According to Israeli army officials, at least 30 of its soldiers have been wounded since the start of the ground campaign.
Amid global condemnation of the ongoing violence in the region, the UN Security Council failed to agree on a united approach to resolve the crisis.
"Once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council," UN General Assembly chief Miguel d'Escoto said Sunday.
According to diplomatic sources, the US blocked a Security Council resolution, with US Deputy Ambassador Alejandro Wolff arguing that an official statement that criticizes both Israel and Hamas would not be helpful.
The White House has so far declined to comment on whether an Israeli ground incursion into Gaza is a justified measure.

Iran's president lashes out at Western powers for their opposition to the outcome of the June 12 presidential election.
In a Thursday address to thousands of people in the northeastern city of Mashad, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the West has gone as far as setting up satellite channels to influence Iranians against their better judgment.
Ahmadinejad, who was speaking during his first provincial trip after the June 12 presidential vote, said foreign countries have no right to insult the choice made during the election.
"During the whole election process, certain foreign countries attempted to push the country to the brink of civil war," argued Ahmadinejad.
Iran turned into a scene of opposition rallies after the re-election of president Ahmadinejad with nearly two-thirds of the vote.
President Ahmadinejad's rivals -- Mehdi Karroubi and Mir-Hossein Mousavi -- reject the election result as fraudulent and have yet to acknowledge the Iranian president's re-election.
On June 20, the unrest over the result of the vote took a turn for the worse after protesters, who demanded a re-run of the 10th presidential election, gathered to hold a rally without the official permission of the country's Interior Ministry.
The day turned bloody -- increasing the post-vote deaths to at least 20 -- when, according to Iranian officials, terrorist elements infiltrated the rallies.
Ahmadinejad went on to say that the West has trouble tolerating an independent nation that takes a stand against their policies.
He said Iran would respond to any aggressors in a way that they would forget how to return home.
"I have told the enemies that this nation will strike you in the face so hard you will lose your way home," he said.
The president said the high voter turnout in the recent elections has caught Westerners off guard and "has foiled all their evil plans".
On the Iranian nuclear issue, Ahmadinejad said that his government would remain open to "logic and dialogue" to end the international deadlock.
He, however, issued a warning. "If each and every one of the Western countries that oppose Iran's nuclear program joins forces, they would still fail to deprive the Iranian nation of its inalienable nuclear rights," he said.

It has been 30 years since the US undertook Operation Eagle Claw - a failed military mission to rescue 52 diplomats and embassy staff taken hostage in Iran.
About 90 commandoes, eight helicopters and six aircraft landed in the Iranian desert on the first stage of the mission, but an accident resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and it was called off.
The hostage crisis lasted for another year after "divine intervention", as some Iranians say, stopped Eagle Claw.
The anniversary comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran.

The death toll from the Israeli navy's takeover of a Gaza aid convoy has risen to 20 while Israel carefully censors reports on the casualties from the attack.
Gaza Freedom Flotilla came under fire early on Monday by Israeli navy forces in international waters more than 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.
The six-ship aid fleet was soon stormed by commandos descending from helicopters.
At least 20 people were killed in the takeover of the Gaza aid convoy, al-Aqsa TV channel reported, saying that more than 50 people, including leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Salah, were wounded in the attack.
The news trickled through the Israeli military censorship which has sought to block the reporting of any information about the casualties.
A report on the Israeli radio said the censorship was aimed at covering up the number of casualties brought to Israeli hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, Israeli Trade and Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer expressed regret for the deaths aboard the Gaza aid ships.
"The images are certainly not pleasant. I can only voice regret at all the fatalities," he told Israel's Army Radio.
The comments come as the first official acknowledgement by Tel Aviv that the attack had turned fatal.
Israel had initially declined to comment on the reports of casualties from the takeover of the aid ships.

German pro-Palestinian activist Norman Paech has said he only saw wooden sticks being brandished as Israeli commandos abseiled on to the deck of the Mavi Marmara.
Eyewitness accounts from ships raided by Israeli commandos have cast doubt on Israel's version of events that led to the deaths of at least 10 people.
Israel says its soldiers were attacked with "knives, clubs and other weapons" More..and opened fire in self defence.
Update:
"European Campaign to End Siege on Gaza", announced that it already obtain the funding of the first three ships of the new fleet which will go to the Gaza Strip, which will be named "fleet of Freedom 2", related to the name of the First Fleet, who was exposed to piracy and a bloody massacre by Israel against the peace activists on board.

Israeli forces kill two Palestinians
In another blow to the stalemated Middle East talks, Israeli forces have shelled the Gaza Strip, killing two Palestinians and injuring four others.
Hamas officials said an Israeli navy boat shelled an area north of Gaza City early on Sunday, the Associated Press reported.
Palestinian medical sources have confirmed the deaths, adding that four other Palestinians were also injured in the Israeli attack.
The incident comes as US-brokered talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel failed to resolve their past disputes.
Israel has repeatedly attacked Gaza since the end of its war on the tiny densely-populated coastal strip at the turn of last year. Gaza has also been under an Israeli siege since 2007.

After years of brutal occupation, Washington was finally forced to sign the Status of Forces Agreement with Baghdad, which stipulates that all US forces would be completely out of Iraq by the end of December 2011.
According to the latest opinion polls, the majority of Iraqi people oppose the idea of US soldiers staying in their country beyond the December deadline, but the American regime wants to stay using the weakness of Iraqi army and security forces as pretext. Under the same pretext, US soldiers continue to carry out home raids and arrests.

What started as a regular basketball game between two teams, ended in the arrest of 30 Turkish youth. Police in the Turkish city of Kayseri stepped in after the crowd, waving Palestinian flags, began protesting against the Israeli team.
According to the indictment, they have been accused of "insulting Israel".
This is not the first time Israeli players have been forced off the court. In 2009, some 3000 Turkish fans disrupted a game in the capitol Ankara.
Soma analysts say these events shine a light on the growing rift between the long-time regional allies, who share trade, military and strategic ties.
Tensions between Turkey and Israel were at one time, reserved only for the political leaders. However that is now being seen on the streets. This is especially true since the deadly raid on the Gaza aid ship back in May of last year that saw 9 Turkish activists' killed.
Israel refuses to apologize to Turkey for the deaths saying their troops acted in self defense.
According to Hayrettin Turan, the editor of the foreign desk at Turkiye Newspaper, relations between the two countries really soured with the Israeli invasion of the Gaza strip in December 2008.
While Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country, it is a secular one, leading some to believe it will make a good role model for new governments in the Middle East.
Turkey also maintains strong ties with Iran and with that growing influence across the region. The dilemma now rests with Israel and how long they feel their policies will keep them afloat.

He made the comments one day after an Afghan policeman opened fire on US-led forces in the eastern province of Nangarhar, injuring two soldiers.
Last week, seven US-led soldiers were killed over four days when Afghan security forces opened fired on them in another green-on-blue or insider attack, in which Afghans turn their weapons against their foreign allies.
According to a NATO count, such attacks have killed a total of 37 US-led foreign soldiers this year, up from 35 deaths in 2011.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Conn Hallinan, a columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus, to further discuss the issue.
