Almost 12 years on since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, Britain\'s top military man here --- Nick Carte believes that the problem of Afghanistan is largely political. And the West could have solved this, if they had talked with the Taliban a decade ago. British Prime Minister David Cameron, however, thinks otherwise. He says they need to move forward with both military and political approaches. He urged President Karzai to resume negotiations with Americans about a security deal between Kabul and Washington. Cameron also demanded a big role for his own government in the ongoing talks with the Taliban militants.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is the first foreign head of government to visit Pakistan after historic democratic transition of power in May this year. Cameron met Pakistan\'s new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in capital Islamabad. The two discussed measures to enhance bilateral relations including trade and economic ties between Pakistan and Britain. But their real focus was on current situation in Afghanistan. At a joint news conference, the British premier, who flew from Kabul, backed a political solution to Afghan war after his top general said the West missed a chance to strike a peace deal with Taliban militants 10 years ago. For his part, Pakistani premier emphasized the need for all-inclusive Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.

An Arab League delegation visited Washington and stated that the Arabs would agree to a resolution of the Arab Israeli conflict based on a return to the 1967 borders with mutually agreed swaps.
Meanwhile resistance movements including Hamas have rejected, while Netanyahu himself hasn\'t shown enthusiasm.
Is there some kind of deal taking place whereby the US will respond to the ongoing Arab calls to get more involved militarily in Syria on condition that Arabs on their side make this latest gesture to Israel?

The G8 summit of world leaders ended with the usual positive statements about so-called progress on the main agenda items such as the conflict in Syria and a US-EU trade deal.
But Russia blocked a joint G8 statement which would have called for President Assad to step down.
President Putin also made it clear that a political solution is the only way to stop the conflict and that the Western plan to arm the rebels would only pour fuel on the fire.
The G8 summit received a mixed reception in Northern Ireland itself. Some viewed it as a positive sign of progress in a part of the world which has been blighted by sectarian violence.
Others felt that the G8 leaders were war criminals and an international financial mafia governing on behalf of the rich and powerful.

The annual European Union Budget is worth hundreds of billions of euro and now those in charge of administering it are admitting that huge amounts of taxpayers\' cash are being siphoned off by fraudsters. Member states are failing to adequately deal with the fraud problem so the EU Commission says it is setting up a European Public Prosecutor\'s Office which apparently will take a zero tolerance approach. The Commission estimates that €500m is lost each year through crimes against the EU Budget. At present only 42% of suspected cases are prosecuted. The Commission says the new prosecutor\'s office will pursue approximately 2,500 new cases each year. The office will commence work on the 1st of January 2015.

Pakistan continues to face the blow back of its decision to side with the United States in its so-called war on terror.
A new study shows that a 40 percent increase in terrorist attacks was witnessed in the country after new government took charge in May this year.
The report prepared by the Conflict Monitoring Center reveals that September was the deadliest month as 215 violent incidents were reported.
In those attacks as many as 284 people were killed and over 500 injured.
Pro-Taliban militants have stepped up attacks following a unanimous resolution passed by the country\'s main stream religious and political parties last month to hold talks with them.
The report also says that in the first nine months of 2013, more than 800 violent incidents were recorded in different parts of the country leaving over 2000 people dead and many more injured.
Majority of the public here in Pakistan believe that the country is facing increased number of terrorist attacks due to its alliance with the US.
Official figures indicate that as many as 50,000 Pakistanis including thousands of security personnel have lost their lives in violent incidents since 9/11 attacks.
The current Pakistani government is pushing for a peace deal with the pro-Taliban militants. But many critics here believe that it will be a huge challenge for the administration in Islamabad to achieve that objective if militants continue their attacks.

Israel approves the release of 26 Palestinian prisoners under the terms of the renewed so-called peace talks with the Palestinian Authority. The released inmates are considered the second group of prisoners discharged since August. Israeli prison authorities say the inmates will be released at least 48 hours after their names are published. Tel Aviv had said 104 Palestinians would be freed in stages following the start of negotiations on July 30. An Israeli official claimed last week that the move was linked to a deal with the Palestinian Authority in exchange for continued settlement construction in the occupied territories. But the PA has vehemently denied the allegation, saying the construction activities seriously threaten the so-called peace talks, that resumed in July after a three-year halt.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says Syria has submitted a detailed plan to destroy its chemical arsenal on time.
The OPCW said in a statement that Damascus has handed over its formal initial declaration covering its chemical weapons program. The declaration includes a general plan of destruction to be considered by the OPCW Executive Council. Damascus was required to submit the destruction plan under a US-Russian deal agreed last month. Syria has already handed over an inventory of its chemical weapons and international inspectors are probing its facilities. The team has until November 1 to inspect the chemical weapons arsenals declared by Damascus and supervise the destruction of the related facilities.

UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi says Syrian President Bashar al-Assad could play a constructive role in a future transition in his country.
Brahimi is in Damascus on the latest leg of a regional tour to rally support for the upcoming Geneva talks. In an interview with a French magazine ahead of his trip, he said a deal on Syria\'s arsenal of chemical weapons has transformed Assad from Quote-- a pariah into a partner. On Sunday, the veteran Algerian diplomat was in Tehran, where he insisted on Iran\'s participation in the Geneva conference. However, Brahimi faces an uphill task in convincing the fractured foreign-backed opposition to attend the talks. And 19 militant groups have issued threats against those who plan to attend the Geneva conference. Brahimi says he fears Syria may become a failed state like Somalia if a peace agreement cannot be reached.

On the nuclear talks between Iran and the permanent members of the UN, known as the P5+1, A breakthrough seems to be on the horizon after years of negotiating.
Iran\'s new nuclear negotiating team, headed by FM Mohammad Javad Zarif, may be able to get Iran what it was always entitled to based on international law: its inalienable right to civilian nuclear technology, without giving up its right to nuclear enrichment.
In this debate, we\'ll discuss the possibilities of reaching this deal, and its political ramifications, both regionally and beyond.
But how serious and sincere are the US and its European allies in the talks as they derailed at least two earlier agreements?

Iran\'s deputy foreign minister has described the upcoming nuclear talks with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany as a test.
Majid Takht-e Ravanchi called on the group to enter into negotiations with goodwill and avoid making unreasonable demands. The official also said Iran\'s nuclear issue has multiple and complicated aspects that are not expected to be fully resolved over a couple of meetings. A new round of talks over Iran\'s nuclear energy program is scheduled for November 20 in Geneva, Switzerland. The two sides failed to reach a deal during the previous round held earlier this month. Tehran blames a division among members of the sextet for the failure.

A top White House official says Washington does not need to apologize to Afghanistan for over a decade of killing and injuring civilians in the war-torn country. National Security Advisor Susan Rice made the remarks following reports that US President Barack Obama would apologize for the United States\' mistakes. Earlier, an Afghan presidential spokesman said that as a part of the Washington-Kabul security pact, the U-S would write a letter admitting the errors it made during its war in Afghanistan. But according to Rice, no letter has been drafted and it is off the table. Meanwhile, a group of Afghan elders known as the Loya Jirga will discuss the so-called Bilateral Security Agreement between the two countries on Thursday. If confirmed, the strategic partnership deal will allow US troops to stay in the country beyond the 2014 planned pullout and grant them immunity from prosecution in Afghanistan.

US President Barack Obama calls on Senate to delay imposing new sanctions on Iran, rejecting criticism by senators that Washington has not been tough on Iran. White House spokesman Jay Carney says that Obama has met top Democrats and Republicans from the Senate Armed Services, Intelligence and Foreign Relations committees and urged them to delay any decision on new Iran sanctions. As Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are slated to hold fresh round of nuclear talks in Geneva on Wednesday, Obama tell the senators that new sanctions should not be enacted during the current negotiations. Meanwhile, a group of senators wrote to Secretary of State John Kerry, calling on the administration to make a tougher line on anti-Iran sanctions. The senators warned that easing the sanctions would not force Iran to abandon its pursuit of an alleged nuclear weapon. Obama says the proposed deal would permit a modest lifting of the economic sanctions on Iran.
