Iraq once again threatens Turkey with tough measures over its oil deals with the Arab country\'s Kurdistan Regional Government. Oil Minister Abdel-karim al-Luaybi says Ankara\'s plan to import oil from its northern region is a QUOTE red line for Iraqis. Al-Luaybi warned that his government will cancel all the current contracts with Turkey if it allows Kurdistan\'s oil to be exported to international markets. The Iraqi minister added that Ankara\'s decision is not in Turkey\'s interests. The remarks are made a day after the Iraqi minister said Baghdad will take legal action against Turkey over the issue. The row between the two sides deepened after Iraq\'s Kurdish region announced that its first direct shipment of oil to Turkey has gone on sale.

Lebanon\'s President Michel Sleiman has raised hopes that a new government could soon see the light of day. Speaking to diplomats at the Presidential Palace in Beirut, Sleiman said all major obstacles had been overcome, and that he was putting the final touches on the new cabinet. He added that this weekend would be decisive. Sleiman\'s remarks are the strongest signal yet of an end to the 10-months political deadlock in Lebanon. The country has been reeling from the political turmoil since the March 2013 resignation of Prime Minister Najib Miqati. President Sleiman\'s mandate runs out on May 25.

South Korean National Assembly Speaker, Kang Chang-Hee has traveled to Iran for a three-day visit to the country. During his visit to Iran, he heads a high-ranking parliamentary delegation. This is the 5th South Korean parliamentary delegation visiting Iran since March last year. The South Korean delegation is scheduled to meet Iranian high-ranking officials. The first such meeting was held on Sunday evening and Kang met with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Larijani.

Insurgents in Syria have expressed doubt about the implementation of a new deal reached at the Geneva peace conference, under which the government has agreed to let women and children leave besieged districts of the city of Homs. Insurgents operating in the city have called for a complete end to the siege of the areas, which have been under a blockade since June 20-12. They also say they want guarantees from the UN or the International Committee of the Red Cross that the people leaving the areas will not be arrested by Syrian forces. Earlier, UN and Arab League special envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said Damascus has agreed to let women and children leave the areas. The agreement was reached on the third day of the peace talks between the Syrian government and the foreign-backed opposition in Geneva.

The situation remains tense across the country, a day after deadly clashes pitting supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi against the security forces and rival demonstrators. The Health Ministry says nearly fifty people died in the clashes during demonstrations marking the anniversary of Egypt\'s 2011 revolution. Most of the victims are believed to be supporters of Morsi. Amnesty International has issued a report saying that Egypt has seen violence on an unprecedented scale since Morsi\'s ouster in a military coup in July. Iran\'s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the resumed talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council which include the United States, Britain, France, Russia, and China plus Germany will start in good faith. He met with the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who represents the P5+1 group of countries, in Vienna a day ahead of the negotiations that will take place in the city over next three days.
