It is going to cost hundreds of millions of pounds for a massive invasion of people's privacy along with breaching civil rights of almost every citizen in the country and presumably anyone from abroad who communicates with them. The legislation is supposed to catch terrorists before they terrorize, that is of course the excuse! The US and Russia have come to the conclusion that there is no military solution to Syria\'s crisis and all efforts must be focused on a political roadmap. Some US allies notably Saudi Arabia still insist President Bashar al Assad\'s government should be toppled militarily. Delayed for months, the Geneva Two peace conference aims to resolve the crisis through dialog between the Syrian government and a yet undecided opposition that includes al Qaeda-affiliated militants bent on continuing a deadly terrorist campaign. So how near is a political solution?

As Lebanon is grappling with an influx of Syrian refugees, the latest UN figures highlights the extent of the crisis. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has said one out of five people living in Lebanon are refugees who have fled the conflict in neighboring Syria. Some 30 percent of the Refugees live in substandard shelters. Lebanon\\\'s government has refused to set up official camps for the refugees fearing a crisis similar to that of the Palestinian refugees 52 thousand of whom were living in Syria. Many of Syrian refugees are unregistered and undocumented migrants and live in hundreds of unofficial tent settlements on northern and eastern peripheries. The figures provided by the UNHCR do not include hundreds of thousands of refugees who are not registered. But estimates show that there could be over one million Syrian refugees in Lebanon living in tents like these. Some, 280,000 are children of school age, and over 70% very much dependent on any humanitarian aid they can get. The greatest suffering in the camps is seen in the eyes of the children. This boy was eager to go on television hoping that our presence would attract humanitarian aid. The women complain about how they\\\'re not getting enough help for their children: This man was a school teacher in Syria\\\'s Hama. Now he\\\'s trying to help create an educational center for children of school age, many of whom have not received any education for two years: Lebanon currently hosts the highest number of refugees from Syria. More than a million other Syrians have fled to Jordan and Turkey. The United Nations has warned that the number of Syrian refugees will almost double over the next year to top four million.

Ukraine\'s political crisis has dominated the summit between the European Union and Russia, with Russian President Vladimir Putin assuring Ukrainians that Moscow would honor a loan deal whatever government emerges in Kiev. Despite that, trade talks between the EU and former soviet states continue to create tensions. The EU blames pressure from Moscow for the breakdown in trade negotiations between the EU and Ukraine. The EU also claims this has led to the current crisis in Ukraine. The EU and Russia have been negotiating a \'new basic agreement\', as it is called, for years.

The fuel crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip has forced the residents of the coastal enclave to turn to the Sun to meet their energy demands. Authorities of this crisis-hit hospital in Gaza have decided to install solar panels to get the most out of the sunlight. They say loss of power for even a minute could spell disaster for the patients there. Gazan officials hope the solar power could play a bigger role in providing energy for the Palestinians. But the solar panels are a bit costly and not everybody in the impoverished enclave can afford using them. Gaza has been under a crippling Israeli blockade for several years now. This has been exacerbated by the closure of the Rafah crossing on the border with Egypt.
