The threat has drawn international condemnation with Muslims launching protest rallies around the globe. US officials have also denounced the plan but no legal measure has been taken yet to block the blasphemous move. He issued the fatwa in late March 2012 in response to a Kuwaiti lawmaker who asked if Kuwait could ban church construction in Kuwait. The fatwa paves the way for adding an article to the new Kuwaiti constitution that forbids building of new churches. Ahl al-Bait assembly condemns the fatwa saying that it is contrary to both Shia and Sunni traditions, and has no precedence in Islamic jurisprudential schools. The assembly also slams the "deadly silence" of Muslim scholars in the face of such fatwa that distort the image of Islam. It also criticizes international human right organizations as well as Western and Christian governments for their support of Saudi regime and Wahhabi doctrine. There is no word on the fate of the nuns, but militants are usually known to kill people they kidnap. The insurgents have entered Ma\'lula several months after they were pushed out of the historic town. The Syrian army has been battling the insurgents in the regions near the capital Damascus. The army has cleared many towns and villages of the insurgents. Sources close to the militants have admitted that government forces have been making significant gains near Damascus and elsewhere in the country.

Indiscriminate killings of Muslims continue in the Central African Republic. The Christian militiamen have issued an ultimatum to Muslims taking refuge in a church to either leave the country or face death. Nearly 800 Muslims are hiding in a Catholic Church in the southwestern town of Carnot. Some of them fled from a remote village of Guen after militia known as the anti-Balaka massacred at least 70 people earlier this month. The militia is now threatening to burn the church to the ground. The sectarian conflict in the African nation has so far claimed over a thousand lives. Human rights groups have already documented a wave of violent attacks against Muslims throughout the country. Tens of thousands have also fled for their lives to neighboring countries. The bloodshed continues despite the deployment of thousands of French and African peacekeepers.

Reports coming out of Syria suggest that the army has retaken control of the ancient Christian town of Sadad from al-Qaeda-linked militants. This follows week-long clashes in the town, which is located north of Damascus. Al-Nusra Front insurgents had recently captured key areas of the town, including a checkpoint that gave them control of the western part. The fighting forced many people to flee to the nearby city of Homs or remain trapped in their homes. Sadad has a strategic location near the main highway leading to the Syrian capital.

The al-Qaeda-affiliated militants have vandalized churches in the Damascus countryside of Ma\'lula. That\'s according to the secretariat of the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. The militants have reportedly removed the bells of all the churches, burned the crosses, and stolen the bronze statue of Christ. The ancient Christian town of Ma\'lula has been the site of fierce fighting for months now, and thousands of its residents have fled to safer parts of the country including Damascus. Al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front insurgents stormed the Orthodox Mar Takla convent in the town in December and abducted several nuns. Christians make up about 10 percent of Syria\'s population. The religious minority and its holy sites have been subjected to numerous attacks by militants since the outbreak of violence Syria in 2011.
