Egypt\'s 50-member committee tasked with writing the country\'s new constitution finishes voting on the amended national charter. Egypt\'s former foreign minister Amr Mussa-- who heads the constitution panel-- says the draft will be given to interim president Adly Mansour on Tuesday. The approval comes despite nationwide protests by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. Among many others, the panel has approved a controversial article that allows civilians to be tried in military courts. The new draft also bans the formation of parties based on religious grounds. It also specifies that the defense minister must be appointed in agreement with the military. Based on the new charter, procedures for the first election, either presidential or parliamentary, must begin between 30 to 90 days after the adoption of the constitution. Egypt\'s interim authorities suspended the previous constitution written during Morsi after his removal from power on July 3.

[05 Aug 2012] Somalia draft constitution to go to referendum - English Somalia has endorsed a draft constitution that is set to replace an eight-year old Transitional Federal Charter that governed Somalia since 2004. However contrary to many developed countries where people vote for or against the document through a referendum, in Somalia, 621 elders endorsed the draft that ended the Transitional period.

An Egyptian panel tasked with drawing up the new draft constitution has approved an article that forbids the formation of religious parties. The document says any political party founded on a quote religious basis will be prohibited. The ban was in place during long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak\'s rule. The panel says 138 articles of the total 247 articles have been approved. If adopted in full, the charter will be put to a popular referendum early next year. Rights groups say the new charter strengthens the military. Muslim Brotherhood supporters accuse the military-backed government of having anti-democratic tendencies. They say the proposed amendments are contrary to the goals of the 2011 revolution that ended decades of dictatorship.

Political turmoil in Egypt. The country\'s constituent assembly has approved a new draft constitution. The Muslim Brotherhood has already rejected the charter. The Brotherhood has slammed interim authorities, saying they\'re distorting Egypt\'s legitimate constitution which was adopted during Mohammed Morsi\'s presidency. The final draft was approved by a 50-member constituent assembly and will now be handed to the military-backed interim president. Adly Mansour is expected to set a date for a referendum on the charter. The draft calls for elections, parliamentary or presidential, within 90 days after the adoption of the constitution. If approved, the new constitution will strengthen the army\'s hand. It will also forbid the formation of parties based on religious grounds.

Iraq was attacked under the false pretext of uncovering weapons of mass destruction and overthrowing a dictator. The dictator is toppled and WMDs are not uncovered. A democratic government is established by the votes of the people but, after 6 years, the occupiers are still there. They insist on imposing colonial agreements on the people of Iraq by keeping them under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter. Millions of people have been killed or displaced, and the occupiers, without a sense of shame, are still seeking to solidify their position in the political geography of the region and to dominate oil resources. They have no respect for the people of Iraq and disregard any dignity, rights or status for them. The UN is not capable enough to solve the problems and to remove aggression, occupation and imposition.

Stephen Schlesinger (born August 17, 1942) is an author and political commentator. He is an Adjunct Fellow at the Century Foundation in New York City. He served as Director of the World Policy Institute at the New School University from 1997-2006. He is the son of historian Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr and oldest brother of journalist Robert Schlesinger. Schlesinger graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in 1964, and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1968. During 1970, he began publishing, with other former supporters of Robert F. Kennedy and Eugene J. McCarthy, The New Democrat, a monthly magazine dedicated to uniting "the left and radical wings"[1] and replacing the "dead leadership" in the Democratic Party. The magazine was critical of Democratic National Committee chairman Larry O'Brien, and promoted the candidacy of South Dakota Senator George McGovern over that of Maine Senator Ed Muskie and former Vice President Hubert Humphrey during the 1972 Democratic presidential primaries.[2] Later, he worked as a staff writer for Time magazine. Syrian rebels are under pressure to accept the UN-backed peace plan, after Damascus rubber-stamped the deal. [29 July 2012] Pakistan US to sign draft pack on NATO supply routes - English Pakistan will not allow the transportation of weapons or dangerous materials, including arms and ammunition in any circumstances through its routes to the US-led forces fighting in Afghanistan, says the draft of the 16-clause memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed between Islamabad and Washington. The draft which says the written accord has been drafted in accordance with the UN charter allows only the transportation of non-lethal cargo, including food, medicines, equipment and material for capacity building of the Afghan National Security Forces. These will be allowed to pass through the strategic routes which were recently reopened by Islamabad after a seven-month blockade.

Gholam-hossein Dehghani said such sanctions constitute a clear violation of international law and the U-N Charter. Dehghani dismissed claims that the sanctions are QUOTE smart, saying the punitive measures mainly target ordinary people. Iran\'s envoy to the UN reiterated Tehran\'s opposition to sanctions, which he called outdated and ineffective, against any nation.

As the international community is focusing on Iran\'s Human Rights record, Tehran says the west is using this as a tool against the country. Despite this, Secretary General of Iran\'s High Council for Human Rights Javad Larijani tells Press TV, Iran encourages a professional report on its right record calling reports till now as biased. After months in office Iran\'s new President, Hassan Rouhani\'s administration unveiled a draft civil rights charter on his website and asked for all Iranians to contribute via an email.

At least seven people are killed in anti-government rallies across Egypt, as the country undertakes its first voting since the army\'s ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July. Over a dozen others have also been injured in several cities. There were also clashes in front of an interior ministry building in Alexandria. Meanwhile, security forces have stormed the campus of the al-Mansoura University in the city with armored vehicles, and used live ammunition and gas canisters against protesting students. This is the first day of a two-day national vote on the country\'s new constitution, drafted by the army-backed interim government. Under the draft text, the formation of religious political parties is banned. Critics say the new charter only favors the army. If approved, it will replace the current constitution which was passed under Morsi. A coalition led by his Muslim Brotherhood movment has boycotted the referendum.

Polls close in Libya as voters take to the ballot boxes to elect a constituent assembly that will draft a new constitution. A low turnout reflected voter mistrust of politicians as chaos prevails across the country since Muammar Gaddafi\'s downfall in 2011. The election committee says only 360,000 of the one million registered voters had cast their ballots. The 60-member constitutional committee will have 120 days to draft the charter.
