Israeli soldiers have opened fire in two places in the besieged Gaza Strip, injuring at least 16 Palestinians. In one of the incidents, 14 Palestinians were shot and injured by Israeli troops during a demonstration against the Israeli-designated buffer zone near Jabalia. Medics say a 12-year-old boy who was shot in the head is in serious condition. And in southern Gaza, a Hamas security officer and a Palestinian boy were shot and injured by Israeli soldiers. Palestinians regularly hold demonstrations near the Israeli fence separating Gaza from the rest of occupied Palestine. They say the Israelis uprooted their trees to create the buffer zone.

Friends, let this not come as a surprise to you. This is the reality we are living in where it is ‘estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. That’s roughly 100 times as many as those who actually die from these causes each year. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger related causes… Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.’ --HOW YOU CAN HELP -- Don’t waste natural resources. Be thankful to God for His gifts and blessings. Be mindful of your responsibility toward other human beings. Think about what the Prophet (saws) would do. Have mercy and compassion toward all humankind. Next time you spend money on those unnecessary luxuries of your life, think for a moment about the plight of the poor and oppressed around the world. Be aware of the materialistic forces and the contradictions of the dominant economic systems that are at the roots of global inequality. Don’t become a part of this system. Don’t become a slave of consumerism and endless materialistic competition. Understand that it is not enough to just keep yourself from engaging in consumerism. It's not always easy to protect yourself and your family against the multi-billion dollar industry of marketing. Join forces with other like-minded people. Strengthen your communities that can serve as a buffer against corporations. Engage in collective action. Transform people's consciousness and hyper-consumeristic lifestyles. Among other things, join a local organization that is working against subtle forms of oppression, like hunger, poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, perfect body images, and endless materialistic competition. If there isn’t any, start one today! For ideas, you can look into doing online activism. Check out moveon.org’s work. Some online organizations also invite web surfers to click on their sites regularly. They say every click earns them revenue to support their causes. The Hunger Site is an example. Some may also invite you to buy their T-shirts and other souvenirs. I guess, you can buy these items if you think they can help spread the word and encourage people to join a good cause. But, in general, more shopping and more consumption cannot be a solution to human suffering. Selling consumers to products through clicks or ads is exactly what we need to shun. Because that feeds into the same loop of consumerism. My suggestion: Donate directly! And, encourage others to do the same! Lastly, remember the advice Imam Ali gave in his Last Will: “My advice to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world, and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth; work for the next world. Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.” Become a friend and supporter of oppressed people and an enemy of oppressors and all forms of oppression."

A Palestinian teenager has been shot dead by the Israeli army that opened fire on a group of Palestinians protesting against a buffer zone being built on the border between the east of the Gaza strip and Israel. Moaweya Hassanein, 19, was shot in the abdomen and carried to a hospital, where he died of wounds. An Israeli human rights group has released video footage which showed a non-violent crowd of Palestinian protesters being taken surprise by a gunshot fired by an Israeli soldier on the other side of a nearby security fence.

Late last month a ship loaded with arms was intercepted in the Northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. Following this, several other cases of attempted arms smuggling in Lebanon and specifically near the border with Syria have been uncovered. This has been accompanied by the emergence of armed Salafists in Northern Lebanon, together with the arrest of individuals charged with affiliation to armed terrorist groups.

Most Gazans suffer from food insecurity due to several years of Israeli blockade. Impoverishment has increased the level of food insecurity in Gaza which is home to one point seven million people. Tel-Aviv is not only maintaining a tight air, sea and land blockade but it also prevents farmers in Gaza from farming vast swathes of land in the so-called buffer zone.

An Israeli blockade, repeated airstrikes targeting their lands, and an Israeli threat on their lives along the no-go buffer zone; this is the story of Palestinian farmers in Gaza.Palestinian farmlands have been the target of many Israeli attacks during the years. The airstrikes and bombings have polluted the farmers\' lands, making it unsuitable for healthy plant cultivations.The misery of Gaza\'s farmers does not stop here as they lack the needed machinery and seeds and Israel does not allow them to export their goods to the outside world. The Ministry of Health and the farmers in Gaza have called on the international community and human rights organizations to end Israel\'s continuous attacks on Palestinian farmers and civilians.As the Israeli blockade and airstrikes on the coastal enclave continue, farmers in Gaza are the ones to pay the price.

Tel Aviv sends troops into a U-N-designated area separating Lebanon and Israel to collect an Israeli drone after it crashed in the area. Locals and the Lebanese army witnessed the incident but there were no clashes. The cause of the crash is still unknown. Israeli aircraft regularly violate Lebanon\'s airspace. A buffer zone called the Blue Line was drawn between Israel and Lebanon in 2000 after Israeli troops withdrew from southern Lebanese territories. Beirut has repeatedly filed complaints with the U-N over the Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace. But the world body has failed to take any measures to end such violations.
