[12 Aug 2012] Afghan freedom depends on US interests - English More than a decade in Afghanistan the US-led forces are now facing more violence. As many as eight US-led troopers have been killed by locals in southern Afghanistan over the past three days in the so-called "green-on-blue" attacks. In two separate incidents on Friday, three American forces were shot by a man in Afghan police uniform, who had invited them to a meal, while three other troopers were killed by an Afghan, employed in a NATO base. According to a NATO count, green-on-blue attacks, in which Afghans turn their weapons against the foreign forces, have killed a total of 34 foreign troopers this year. The inspector general police of the Helmand province, Abdul Nabi Ilham described the green-on-blue attacks as a new tactic of the Taliban. Thousands of NATO troopers, due to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2014, are still in the country under the pretext of 'training and working alongside Afghan soldiers' for the anti-insurgency campaign.

The army said in a statement on Friday that the recent erection of an observation post and a military facility by Israel on the outskirts of the Kfar Shouba Hills of Lebanon is against the international resolutions and also against the United Nations' frontier line between Lebanon and Israel. Responding to the Israeli violation of Lebanese territory Lebanon called the action “provocative” and deployed its own army units in the area on Friday. "In a clear violation of a restricted area of Lebanese territory, and in an attempt to impose a new reality on the ground, the Israeli enemy on Wednesday set up an observation post at the edge of Kfar Shouba and a military position overlooking Baathaeel pond, violating the imaginary line that (UNIFIL) delineated anew, which it considers to be the Israeli withdrawal line," said the statement, making reference to the Blue Line designated by the UN in 2000. "Given this provocative stance, Lebanese Army units in the region deployed patrols along the border," it added. The army said it was following up on Israel's violation with UNIFIL officials in order "to resolve this urgent situation", The Daily Star reported. Israel seized control of the Farms in 1967, when it also captured the Syrian Golan Heights. UN Resolution 1701 was adopted in August 2006 following Israel's 33-day war against Lebanon. The resolution binds Israel to pull its forces out of the village of Ghajar and the Kfar Shouba Hills.

A passenger aircraft has crashed on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board. Reports suggest air traffic controllers had told the pilot to divert due to the poor weather, but lost contact with the plane shortly after. Al Jazeera's Tarek Bazely reports.

It is a nice day and Pingu is out riding his brand new blue scooter. Circling overhead is a Seagull. It squawks, and Pingu hoots back and waves to it. He tries to grab it, but it takes off and flies out of reach. The Seagull lands again, and Pingu has another attempt at grabbing it, but this try also fails. The Seagull lands for a third time, but this time Pingu sneaks up on it from behind and succeeds in getting hold of its legs. The Seagull tries to fly away, and eventually Pingu has to let go. The Seagull circles around, and defecates on Pingu again, this time on his right shoulder. The Seagull then lands to have a drink from a nearby ice hole and is grabbed on the beak by a lobster, which won\'t let go. After initially being amused, Pingu takes pity on the Seagull and tugs the lobster off. The lobster turns on Pingu and follows him into the igloo. Pingu eventually chases the lobster away and back into the pool by banging some pan lids. He pets the Seagull, and just when he thinks he\'s made friends with it, it flies away and defecates on him yet again, right on the top of his head, he shouts at the seagull as it flies away. He goes inside and tells Mother all about it when he\'s been plagued, and she washes his head clean.
