Hundreds of thousands people around the globe protested against Washington's illegal invasion of Iraq in 2003. Protesters didn't stop the invasion, but they did demonstrate that people can be mobilized to stop military interventions. Now it would appear things have changed. The US and its Western allies have gone to war against Libya without a public debate and few public protests. What accounts for this? Is it because a Democrat is in the White House? Or is it because the anti-war movement during the Bush years achieved little in a practical and policy sense?

Turkish police have fired tear gas to disperse anti-war protesters outside the parliament in the capital city, Ankara. Protesters took to the streets around the Turkish parliament on Thursday, chanting, \\\"We don\\\'t want war!\\\" and \\\"The Syrian people are our brothers!\\\" The Turkish parliament was deliberating on a motion that would allow military operations in Syria if the government considers them as necessary. The demonstration comes after Turkish forces reportedly killed several Syrian soldiers in an attack on a military post near the border town of Tel Abyad earlier on Thursday. Press TV has conducted an interview with Moufid Jaber, with the Center for Middle East Studies from Beirut, to further discuss the issue.

The largest Al-Quds rally in the history of Toronto and North America included a significant number of Jewish organizations including \\\"Not in our Name\\\", \\\"Neturei Karta\\\", \\\"Jews against Occupation\\\" and \\\"Independent Jewish Voices\\\" as well as men, women and children from all faiths and walks of life. The speakers and participants of the rally came to express their solidarity with the brutally oppressed people of occupied Palestine and to protest against the terrorist state of israel, whose Zionist settlers believe that they have a right to imprison, expel and massacre men, women and children to expand the illegal settlements and the occupation of the indigenous Palestinians. The children of Toronto released balloons with the names of the children in Gaza who have been massacred in the recent indiscriminate onslaught against the civilian population. Many in the crowd broke down in tears when a young Muslim girl read the names of some of the hundreds of children that have been found buried under the rubble of their schools and houses. The speakers and participants strongly denounced the support of Stephen Harper\\\'s government for the war crimes committed by the state of israel. They condemned the one-sided and unfair approach that does not represent the Canadian values or the opinion of the majority of the populace and vowed to change the political representatives that pander to the Zionist lobbyists. The Al-Quds day rallies were held in over 800 cities in 45 countries and were attended by tens of millions of individuals who are committed to giving a voice to the voiceless population of the occupied Palestine. Every year, the support for Palestine grows and the apartheid state of israel is more isolated and exposed today than ever before. It is only a matter of time before it is forced to end the illegal occupation of Palestine.

61 peaceful protestors were arrested when they along with another few hundreds gathered in front of White House to protest against US Administration's absurd foreign policies. They demanded to talk to Obama because there has been no difference between his policies and that of Bush's. People say that they elected Obama in so that he can stop waging wars on other countries. BUT they are disappointed as the talks are to increase American troops in Afghanistan by 40,000. The Ninth year of Afghanistan invasion and killing innocent people is beginning. The protestors were practicing their constitutional rights of 1st Admendment - freedom of speech. BUT they were arrested. Shame on the flag bearers of so-called Democracy!
