UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi will travel to Iran soon to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria.During her weekly press briefing, Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Brahimi is expected in Tehran early next week. The senior diplomat is currently on a regional tour to rally support for the Geneva-two peace conference-- likely to be held in November. Afkham further stressed that Iran favors a political solution to the Syrian conflict, and won\'t accept any preconditions for taking part in the Geneva meeting. She noted that Syrian people themselves should determine their country\'s fate.

Iran has slammed anti-Iran remarks made by U-S undersecretary of state Wendy Sherman. Let\'s first see what the U-S official had said at a meeting with a group of US senators on October 3. Now Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Sherman has apparently no clear view of the Iranian people. Afkham said such remarks also contradict the principle of mutual respect. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said what is part of Iranians\' D-N-A is resistance against any form of bullying. Afkham\'s comments come as inside Iran many people including their M-Ps are angered by Sherman\'s insulting comments.

Marzieh Afkham said such reports should not be used as a criterion to judge the human rights situation in Iran. Afkham was reacting to the latest report by the UN Rapporteur Ahmad Shahid which accused Tehran of failing to make significant improvements on the human rights front. The Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman said the report lacks legitimacy, as it is based on information provided by terrorist groups. Afkham also described Iran as the anchor of stability and religious democracy in a region which suffers from extremism and terrorism.
