Abu Bakr Saddique was raised by a woman known around the city of Buffalo, NY as a champion of human rights and a helper of the poor. In his neighborhood of mostly Italian-American immigrants, Saddique says there was one incident that stood out for him in particular.
“I was out front playing. We were in the projects – only black family on the street. And I saw this lady. She was a white lady. She was walking down the street and she was going from apartment to apartment – and we lived in a row house. People were slamming the door in her face. She got to our house, and my mother opened up the door and invited her in. So I’m out playing, everything is tight. We’re on welfare. I go into the house and there was this woman sitting down there – eating. I said, ‘woah, what is this? Man, she’s eating up our food.’ You know? And my mother, it was like she didn’t care. She said, ‘she needed to eat’. She gave her food and she gave her some money. Yes. That’s how she was. And she said, ‘always be kind to strangers’”.
Saddique was six and the year was 1953. He says his mother’s character and behavior in situations like this prepared the ground for his eventual conversion to Islam. Saddique first learned about the religion in fourth grade.
“There was Niagara Street Library. I got a book on the Crusades about Richard the Lionheart. That peaked my interest in Islam because they couldn’t say anything about Salahuddin Ayyubi not being good. I saw Muslims in the 50s – some NOI (Nation of Islam), some orthodox. Malcolm X also used to come to Buffalo a lot in the 50s and 60s”.
It wasn’t until 1973, when Saddique was training at an Army base in Texas, that his interest in Islam began to take shape.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remark in a message to the Hajj pilgrims.
The full text of the message is as follows:
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Greetings to the holy Ka’aba, the base of monotheism, and pilgrimage place of the faithful. The place on which angels land, and greetings to Masjid al-Haram, Arafat, Mash’ar and Mina, and greetings to humble hearts, and tongues mentioning God, and eyes opened with insight, and thoughts which have set examples to others, and greetings to you blissful Hajj pilgrims, who have succeeded in answering positive to the divine call and are taking advantage of this bountiful occasion.
The first duty of Hajj pilgrims is to muse on this global, historical and eternal positive response to the divine call: “verily all thanks and blessings are yours as well as absolute rule, and there is no partner for you, and I accept your call.”
All eulogies and thanks, belong to Him, and all blessings come from Him, and all the rules and power belong to Him. This is the viewpoint that is given to a Hajj pilgrim at the first step of this rich and meaningful obligation, and continuation of these rituals takes place in coordination with it, and then, like a lasting training and an unforgettable lesson, it is put in front of him, and requires him to regulate his life plan on its basis. Learning this great lesson and acting upon It, is the same blessed spring which can impart vivacity, liveliness and dynamism to the lives of Muslims, and relieve them from the problems with which they are grappling – both at this time, and in all other times.
The idol of human proclivities, vanity and lust, the idol of seeking dominance over others and submission to dominance, the idol of the global arrogance, the idol of laziness and irresponsibility, and all idols that bring humiliation to the endeared human soul will be shattered with this Abrahamic outcry, when it comes from the bottom of one’s heart and turns into a life plan, and will substitute freedom and dignity and health for dependence and hardship and affliction.
Brethren and sisters who are performing the Hajj pilgrimage, from any nation and any country, think about this wise divine word, and through a painstaking approach to problems facing the Islamic world, especially in West Asia and North Africa, define for yourself, in view of your personal and environmental capacities and potentialities, a duty and responsibility and then strive towards fulfilling it.
Today, the mischievous policies of America in this region, which are the source of war, bloodshed, devastation, homelessness as well as poverty, and backwardness and ethnic and religious differences on the one hand, and crimes committed by the Zionist regime, which has taken its usurping behavior in the country of Palestine to the ultimate degree of ruthlessness and evilness, in addition to repeated violations of the sacred sanctuary of the al-Aqsa Mosque, and trampling on the lives and property of the oppressed Palestinians on the other hand, are the foremost problem for all of you Muslims. About which you must think and in the face of which you must know your Islamic obligation. Religious ulema, political, and cultural elites shoulder a much heavier responsibility, which is unfortunately ignored by them most of the time. The ulema, instead of fanning the flames of religious discord, and the politicians, instead of passivity in the face of the enemy, and the cultural elite, instead of being preoccupied with marginal issues, must try to know the great ailment of the Islamic world and accept their mission, which they are responsible to fulfill before God, and try to cope with it. The regretful incidents in the region, [including] in Iraq and the Levant and Yemen and Bahrain, and in the West Bank and Gaza, and in some other Asian and African countries, are major problems of the Islamic Ummah, in which the plotting hands of the global arrogance must be seen, and for which a remedy must be sought. Nations must demand this from their governments, and governments must remain loyal to their heavy responsibility.
Hajj and its glorious gatherings are the loftiest place for the rise and exchange of this historic obligation. The opportunity to denounce [infidels], which must be valued through participation of all Hajj pilgrims, from all places, is one of the most expressive political rituals in this overarching obligation.
This year, the bitter and devastating incident of Masjid al-Haram, brought bitterness to all Hajj pilgrims and their nations. It is true that those who passed away in this incident, who went to meet their God while saying prayers and going around Ka’aba and worshipping God, have achieved great bliss and are, God willing, resting in the sanctuary of divine safety, observance and mercy, and this could be a great source of consolation for their families. But this issue cannot reduce the heaviness of the responsibility of those people who are committed to providing security for the guests of the Beneficent God.
Acting upon this commitment and fulfilling this responsibility is our ultimate demand.
May Allah bless those doing good
Seyyed Ali Khamenei

Episode 1 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
Students of Al Mustafa International, the Islamic Seminary of Qom, set out to the lands where Imam Husayn, the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, was brutally slain by the tyrannical Yazid over a thousand years ago. The students will join a current of millions of other people from across the globe who have also been attracted to the land where the ultimate sacrifice took place.
The students will face peril, hunger and thirst and endure exhaustion as well as the heat of Iraq all for the sake of their beloved: Imam Husayn.
What is it about the ancient city of Karbala that captivates Muslims? What makes approximately 30 million people travel there each year?
The ziarat [pilgrimage] to Karbala is considered a sacred journey for Muslims across the world, especially followers of the Shia School of Thought.

Episode 2 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
In this episode, the students step foot into the Holy City of Najaf, where they are thrown into the thronging crowds of the colourful city. Contrary to expectations, the students find the atmosphere to be overwhelmingly welcoming.
Here, the fascinating history of the lands of Iraq are explored. From the ancient civilisations of Akkad and Babylon to the short but sweet reign of Imam Ali [a], Iraq is bursting with intricate meaning. The people of Iraq, despite the adversity that surrounds them prove to be full of love. The pilgrims- and students themselves- show that they have not forgotten their “Master” Imam Ali, whose shrine stands tall in the centre of the ancient city.
The students find a place to rest, and hope to set out to pray at the shrine of Imam Ali the following morning before beginning the walk to Karbala.

Brief segment of the sermon delivered recently by prominent religious scholar Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein Al-Radhi and that resulted in his arrest by the Saudi authorities. The sermon was delivered in one of the mosques in the Ahsaa region in Eastern Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Al-Radhi called on the Saudi government to let Hezbollah and the other countries of the region be, and to focus instead on national reform.
Shortly after this sermon was delivered, Sheikh AlRadhi was arrested in the town of Al-Rumailah. Sheikh AlRadhi is known for his criticism of the Saudi role in destabilizing the region. He often denounced the Saudi regime’s crimes in Yemen, and he demanded that Saudi troops be withdrawn from Bahrain. Sheikh AlRadhi was also one of the few scholars who dared to condemn the horrendous crime of executing Sheikh Nimr AlNimr along with several other activists earlier this year.

Episode 3 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
The journey has begun. The students pray at the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali [a] and begin walking towards Karbala. With the steps they take, the students cannot help but think of how the son of Imam Ali and the grandson of the Holy Prophet [s] himself could have been so mercilessly butchered by the tyrannical Yazid.
This episode looks at the martyrdom of Imam Al-Hasan and the rise of the tyrannical Yazid, who used the banner of Islam to gain power against the true representatives of the religion.

Episode 4 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
Imam Husayn rises up against Yazid making a heroic stand which highlighted for the world’s Muslims that standing up against tyranny is a sacred duty for humanity.
As the students walk, though exhausted, they remember the tragedy of Karbala and ask themselves the question: had they been alive in the time of Imam Husayn, would they have helped him to stand up against Yazid?
This episode also explores the recent history of Iraq, the American invasion and looks at the “Yazids” of today such as the Wahhabi sect, which has hijacked the true message of Islam to spread corruption in Iraq, and the world at large.
As Alastair Crooke rightly said, “You can’t understand ISIS if you don’t know the history of Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia”

Episode 5 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
The journey continues. Due to the harsh weather, the food and the physical exertion, one of the students falls sick and they have barely completed half the walk. Despite their exhaustion from walking all day in the heat of Iraq amongst the bustling crowds, the students manage to rise for their prayers.
Will they be able to continue their journey while one of their friends has fallen ill? Will they leave him behind? Or will the blessings of Allah, for the sake of Imam Husayn, spur them on?
This episode captures the tiresome walk as they students continue on their journey, as well as the profound selflessness of the Iraqi people in their attempts to make the foreign pilgrims feel welcome.

The journey is nearing its end. The pilgrims are reaching the limits of their efforts and must remind themselves to keep on going. In this state of exhaustion, the students are delighted to find that the people of Iraq are not only providing free food, water and places to stay for the night, but also giving free massages to the pilgrims to ease the tension in their aching muscles out of their love for Imam Husayn [a].
After having found a tent to spend the night in, the students wonder about Imam Husayn. Who was this person who has inspired so many people to make the walk?

Episode 7 of the ground-breaking new film following the journey of five students as they make their way to the Holy land of Karbala.
This episode depicts the ultimate sacrifice that took place in the plains of Karbala.
The tyrannical Yazid had amassed an army of over 10,000 soldiers with one intention: to destroy the essence of Islam.
Imam Husayn took a small party of Godly men, as well as his own family: a group consisting of women and children as young as his six-month old baby son.
While the armies of Yazid blocked off the camp of Imam Husayn from having any access to the river Euphrates, Imam Husayn himself gave up his own water supplies to quench the thirst of one of the battalions of Yazid, which was led by Hurr.
After seeing the pure-hearted intentions and the merciful personality of Imam Husayn, Hurr changed sides and joined the heroic ranks of Husayn, despite knowing that he would be slain amongst them. But knowing that he was on the right path was more valuable to Hurr than the worldly riches Yazid had offered him.
Al-Abbas, the brother of Imam Husayn and the flag-bearer of the righteous, rode against the armies of Yazid, in an attempt to get water from the Euphrates. When he filled his water-carrier, the armies attacked from all sides. First, they cut one of his arms and then they cut the other arm from his body. Thus, Al-Abbas was tragically martyred.
The events of Karbala make you wonder: how could people become so cruel the they would prevent a man from taking water to children dying of thirst?
The tragedy of Karbala epitomised the struggle between good and evil which has existed before time. Both armies claim to be Muslims.
On the one hand, you see masses of pawns united for the sake of wealth, worldly rewards and fear of losing their mundane comforts. And on the other side, you see 72 men who with courage stand up, ready to sacrifice everything they have for the sake of justice and truth.
Imam Husayn’s sacrifice is the greatest sacrifice made in history. It defines humanity, friendship, love and freedom and the true message of the Holy Prophet [s]

An Iranian firefighting crew, injured after the collapse of a high-rise in the capital Tehran, has died in hospital.
Officials for Tehran’s firefighting department say the man had been hospitalized with serious burn injuries. Search teams have been deployed to the area to locate those stranded under the debris. They managed to dig two tunnels to areas where 20 firefighters are believed to be trapped and dead. On Thursday, the 17-story building fell down in downtown Tehran hours after a fire broke out on its top floors.
