Russia\'s President Vladimir Putin has ordered security to be stepped up across the nation as a second bombing rocks the southern city of Volgograd. After holding an emergency meeting, Putin issued special instructions for Volgograd which has witnessed two deadly blasts since yesterday. At least 14 people have been killed and over two dozen others wounded in an explosion that ripped through a trolley-bus. The incident follows Sunday\'s bombing at the city\'s main train station which left over a dozen people dead and wounded scores more. There\'s been no claim of responsibility for either of the attacks which come ahead of the Sochi Winter Games scheduled for February. Russian officials have described them as terrorist attacks.

Ukraine\'s political crisis has dominated the summit between the European Union and Russia, with Russian President Vladimir Putin assuring Ukrainians that Moscow would honor a loan deal whatever government emerges in Kiev. Despite that, trade talks between the EU and former soviet states continue to create tensions. The EU blames pressure from Moscow for the breakdown in trade negotiations between the EU and Ukraine. The EU also claims this has led to the current crisis in Ukraine. The EU and Russia have been negotiating a \'new basic agreement\', as it is called, for years.

Egypt\'s military chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has held talks with Russia\'s President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During the meeting, Putin said he will support Sisi\'s bid for president if he decides to run in Egypt\'s upcoming election. Putin also backed Egypt\'s new constitution. Sisi has yet to announce his candidacy for Egypt\'s presidential election. His visit to Russia comes amid continued protests in the country against the interim government, which Sisi installed after toppling former president Moahmed Morsi on July the third. Egyptian security forces have harshly cracked down on the demonstrators, killing hundreds of them.

Iran to build system similar to S-300 Iran says the construction of a missile defense system similar to the sophisticated Russian S-300 anti-aircraft system is still on the country's agenda. Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi told reporters on Wednesday that Iran still plans to construct the system. His remarks come after Moscow decided to suspend a much-delayed deal to deliver the system to Iran. "A decision has been taken not to supply the S-300 to Iran, they undoubtedly fall under sanctions," chief of the Russian General Staff, Gen. Nikolai Makarov said on Wednesday. "The authorities decided to suspend the process of supplies," ITAR-TASS News Agency quoted Makarov as saying. Under a contract signed in 2005, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defense systems. However, Moscow's continuous delays in delivering the defense system drew criticism from Tehran on several occasions. Following the adoption of Resolution 1929 by UN Security Council (UNSC) against Iran, Russian authorities began making conflicting statements about how the new sanctions would affect the contract. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in June that Moscow would "freeze the delivery of the S-300 missiles" to Iran as it runs counter to the new round of UN Security Council sanctions on the country. Putin's remarks came as Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had earlier said UN sanctions would not affect the S-300 contract with Iran, as these missiles are "defensive weapons" and do not fall under the terms of the sanctions. Iran has been trying to obtain the sophisticated defense system to improve its deterrence power in reaction to Israeli war rhetoric. [06 Aug 2012] Panetta raises threat of military attack on Iran Galloway - English US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has raised the threat of a military attack on Iran regarding its nuclear energy program in an effort to reassure what they call Israel during a trip to Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems to dismiss the tough talk though, saying American statements of solidarity with Israel and hints at military attacks are not working. Iran however has denied the Western accusations that Tehran is seeking a military objective in its nuclear energy program. According to a Fatwa from the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei Iran is prohibited to follow such an objective. Russian President Vladimir Putin was in London on Thursday to discuss the Syrian issue with David Cameron. So far, Russia and China have opposed any kind of UN resolution that could be seen as supporting Libyan-style Western military intervention. "Britain has retaliated in part by blocking a Russian arm shipment to Syria but the weaponry keeps getting through at least to those favored by the West," said George Galloway.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned against any attempt at foreign military intervention in Syria, stressing that the move would only make the situation worse. Speaking at a joint news conference after a summit with European Union leaders in Yekaterinburg, Putin said on Tuesday that any future foreign military intervention in Syria is doomed to fail.

The chaos in Syria just continues to get more confusing. As the Syrian military continue to gain ground, the insurgents not only continue to fight the military, but are now are turning their guns on each other. The power struggle continues between the western, Turkish and Arab backed insurgents. Even one of the commanders of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) was killed by other insurgents, which seems to be the trademarks of a group which Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to as organ eaters. So are these the representatives of human rights that Washington and its Arab allies and the Turks are pushing for taking over Syria?

Iran\'s peaceful nuclear programme has grabbed media attention since nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany started in Geneva. Russia\'s official position is that Iran is entitled to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This is a position that has been reaffirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russia is one of Iran\'s major energy partners and has been in charge of building of Bushehr nuclear power plant. But do ordinary Russians share the same view as their politicians? Press TV took to the streets of Moscow to find out. While most Russians questioned by Press TV believe that Iran should be able to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, there are some people who think it\'s not a simple issue. The next round of nuclear talks is seto to be held in November in Geneva, should shed more light on whether diplomacy can prevail in this situation. The majority of people here believe that Iran is entitled to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This notion is also reflected in the Russian government which says that a diplomatic path should be pursued to resolve the nuclear issue.

Ecuador\'s President Rafael Correa is on an official visit to Russia where he signed agreements to boost trade and energy cooperation. Correa also met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani has warned that excessive demands could hamper talks on Iran\'s nuclear energy program. On his twitter page, Rouhani referred to his phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rouhani told Putin that excessive demands could complicate the process toward a win-win agreement. The Iranian president praised Moscow\'s efforts to help negotiate a settlement to the issue. According to the Kremlin, Putin told Rouhani that there\'s a QUOTE real chance to resolve the international standoff over Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Representatives from Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany will sit down for fresh talks in Geneva this coming Wednesday. The meeting will be held under pressure from Israel which seems determined to force Western countries to block a nuclear deal with Iran. The previous round of talks ended without an agreement after France, blocked a deal under the influence of Israel.
