Perhaps many may now agree that the United States of America is no longer the land where all people are free and entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness of their own choice. In the decade since Sept. 11, 2001, the US has comprehensively reduced civil liberties in the name of an expanded security state. The most noticeable example of this was the USA PATRIOT act signed into law October 26, 2001.Only Six weeks after the 9/11 attacks the US Congress enacted the sweeping new law that was passed in great haste and secrecy, and that many regard as riddled with flaws that seriously compromise fundamental freedoms. In The Deported we look at the lives of three immigrants to the United States who had come to America to live the dream in a land they thought to be free and fair. Yet in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks their lives spiraled into misery as the US government rushed to wage a war on terror, terrorizing innocent citizens instead.

[08 Aug 2012] Kidnapping Iranian pilgrims crime against humanity - English Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called on the United Nations to act immediately to secure the release of the Iranian nationals abducted in Syria and Libya. "The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for the immediate release of its abducted nationals and is of the view that using the hostages as human shields violates... international law and (the) human rights of these innocent civilians," Salehi said in a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday. "I would like to seek the cooperation and the good offices of Your Excellency for securing the release of these hostages," he added. A UN spokesman confirmed that the letter had been received but did not offer an immediate response. On August 4, 48 Iranians, who were traveling on a bus from Damascus International Airport to the shrine of Hazrat Zainab (AS) on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, were abducted by insurgents. Three of the abductees have reportedly been killed. Insurgents from the self-proclaimed Free Syrian Army have threatened to kill the other abductees. Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohsen Saleh, professor at the Lebanese University, to further discuss the issue.

"I hope it (regime change in Syria) will happen, even though I don't know when or how," Dan Meridor, who also serves as the deputy prime minister of the Tel Aviv regime, said on Tuesday. He also expressed "hope" that the "new Syria will understand that joining Iran is a mistake that brings isolation from the Western world." The latest remarks by the Israeli official come as anti-Syria Western regimes along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar have been supporting insurgents inside Syria. Press TV has conducted an interview with Hamid Reza Emadi, a political commentator, to further shed light on the issue.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received in Damascus an Iranian delegation headed by top Iranian lawmaker Alaedin Boroujerdi.The Syrian president underlined the necessity of cooperation among regional countries to deal with the menace of terrorism and extremism. He also noted the importance of coordination among parliaments in a way that unites stances in fighting the Wahhabi ideology. Boroujerdi, on his part, asserted that only the Syrians have the right to determine their future. The Iranian parliamentary delegation also met with Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi. The two sides discussed bilateral economic ties and means to boost it further.Boroujerdi, in a separate meeting with foreign minister Waleed al-Moallem, exchanged views on Geneva 2 peace conference.
