Libya has declared a two-day state of emergency in the capital, Tripoli after clashes erupted between rival militias on Saturday. The clashes left one person dead and dozens more injured. Thousands of protesters gathered in Tripoli\'s center to mourn those killed in an attack on protesters on Friday. Local authorities have announced a three-day general strike in response to the violence which was sparked by protests against armed groups. Over 40 people were killed and over 450 more injured when militias fired on the protesters. Tripoli officials have also declared a three-day mourning period. The post-revolutionary government has appealed for restraint.

Two weeks after the Lebanese Army set up checkpoints throughout Tripoli, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces erected additional checkpoints and launched new patrols as part of the second phase of the government\'s security plan to restore security in rival Tripoli neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen.

Khan Al Saboun, a historic market place and a trade-mark in Tripoli that has produced handmade aroma soap for several centuries, close occasionally in conjunction with the clashes. Some shops have gone out of business, driving their owners to leave the country.

Supporters and opponent of the Syrian government clashed in the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood after a protest against extremists who support militants in Syria. The Lebanese army has intervened, trying to end the violence. The city has in the past seen similar violent confrontations between the two sides. A few days ago, deadly fighting broke out in the same neighborhood.

Our Beirut correspondent says clashes have erupted between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the flashpoint city. The clashes have so far claimed one life and left nearly a dozen others injured. Residents in two of Tripoli\'s prominent neighborhoods Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh often engage in violent clashes over their political and religious affiliations.

Troops have been deployed in Libya\'s violence-hit capital following deadly weekend clashes sparked by militias. On Friday, gunmen fired at demonstrators protesting against militias, triggering clashes between rival militants. At least 43 people were killed and hundreds of others wounded in the violence. Meanwhile in another development, the Libyan deputy intelligence chief has been freed by his abductors a day after he was seized near Tripoli airport. Libya has been gripped by lawlessness following the 2011 uprising against the rule of Muammar Ghaddafi. Ever since, myriad militia groups have been carving out their own territories across the vast mostly-desert country.

Another day of furious anti-gaddafi protests in London. This time, protestors made their way to Downing street, the Prime Minister's residence, their fury no longer limited to the regime in Tripoli.

Fresh explosions and gunfire have been heard in Tripoli, as international coalition forces continue to bombard Libya. The country's government says further civilian casualties occured following a third day of allied air strikes. Meanwhile, troops loyal to the Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi are reportedly attacking rebel strongholds in the west. As the allied bombing of Libya enters day three, America is getting involved in another long-term war, which will ruin its economy. That's the opinion of Lew Rockwell, chairman of the U.S.-based Ludwig von Meezes Institute think tank.

Late last month a ship loaded with arms was intercepted in the Northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. Following this, several other cases of attempted arms smuggling in Lebanon and specifically near the border with Syria have been uncovered. This has been accompanied by the emergence of armed Salafists in Northern Lebanon, together with the arrest of individuals charged with affiliation to armed terrorist groups.

Despite a cautious calm following two days of warfare, life was far from normal in the neighborhoods of Jabal Mohsen and Bab -Al-Tabaneh. Most shops remain closed and tensions remain high between the Allawite pro-Syrian and Sunni anti-Syrian neighborhoods. With each side blaming the other for instigating the violence, sectarianism has reached its peak and hence the worse is probably yet to come.

The spillover of the Syrian crisis has claimed more lives in the flashpoint northern Lebanese city of Tripoli. Ten people, including a woman, have been killed in clashes between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the weekend. At least 70 people have also been wounded. Our Beirut correspondent Ali Rizk sees the latest incidents as part of a larger picture. He says Saudi Arabia is losing its sphere of influence compared to regional players, and is therefore trying to regain its power by resorting to violence by proxy.
