[03 Aug 2012] Syrian army trying to restore calm in Aleppo - English Our third day in Aleppo, Press tv team made a tour in the city of Aleppo, the traffic was normal, a very few checkpoints in our tour, and markets were opened. Later on we received a tip to move to Hretan area, an area where Syrian army had clashes during the night with hundreds of fighters belong to an armed group call themselves AlMithanna brigade. Upon our arrival to what was an area controlled by armed militias, Syrian army commander explained to us how did they free the area through intensify clashes during the night, assuring that these clashes resulted to killing plenty of armed group members and most of the killed were foreigners.

Iran's transportation and fuel center is teaming with the country's traffic police, department of motor vehicles and Iran's Environmental Protection Organization (IEPO) to remove aged vehicles to assist in solving the country's air pollution crisis. According to TIME Magazine Iran has 4 cities named as the top ten most polluted cities in the world. As air pollution continues to be an issue in Iran, government organizations have teamed up to solve this catastrophe for good. The goal is to remove vehicles aged private automobiles, taxis, passenger busses and trucks 20 years and older because they fail vehicle emission testing which is the core foundation for air pollution. PTC (Iran's transportation and fuel center estimates there are 1,200,000 aged vehicles throughout Iran. According to Iran's Environmental Protection Organization over 70% of air pollution in Iran especially in the capital Tehran which populates close to 14,000,000 is a direct cause of these aged vehicles.) In addition there are close to 9 million motorcycles in Iran of which 3 million are over aged. In the past 9 months close to 300,000 automobiles, busses and trucks and 600,000 motorcycles have been taken off the streets. The government is also offering a low interest rate loan for residents to turn in their aged vehicles and purchase brand new automobiles. The government is giving taxi drivers a loan of almost $7,000 while bus and truck drivers can get a loan of $20,000 and $50,000 respectively. Also according to IEPO Iran petroleum factories will only produce fuel based on Euro 4 standards by the end of March 2015. Currently Iran is importing Euro 4 standard fuel till it becomes fully efficient.

While the dust from post-election unrest is settling in Iran, the Islamic Republic condemns foreign interference by certain Western states in the country's internal affairs. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hassan Qashqavi, said Monday that some European countries and the US have played a major role in provoking the post-election violence that killed scores of people in the past few days. He made the remarks as the latest pictures show the traffic is normal on Tehran streets, which witnessed calm on Monday and the day before. On Saturday, 'terrorist elements'-who had infiltrated the rallies --created the most violent day of protests by setting fire on a mosque and two gas stations as well as killing a number of people. “With the main goal of sowing ethnic discord, Western powers have interfered in the election process by hyperbolizing the protests staged against the Iranian poll results,” said Qashqavi in an address to his weekly press conference. “France has even gone as far as calling for the annulment of the election outcome. What right do they have to make such inappropriate and irresponsible remarks?” asked Qashqavi. Qashqavi asserted that the Tehran government is planning to respond to the stepped-up “foreign interference” in due time. Qashqavi went on to criticize foreign media outlets for dramatizing the post-election developments taking place in Iran, saying their efforts to launch a cyber war against the government is “totally out of line”. “They have resorted into hacking Iranian news sites as a means to widen the gap between the government and the people,” he said. Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had also warned Europe and the US against meddling with Iran's domestic issues. Over the past few days, Washington and a slew of European powers have adopted a raucous stance on the June 12 election, which saw incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win by a landslide. Defeated presidential rivals Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have called for the nullification of the results and demanded a re-run, giving rise to eight consecutive days of protests and illegal rallies.

According to GeoTV report, LAHORE: Two suicide attackers blew themselves up near security forces vehicles in R A Bazar area of South Cantt as crowds gathered for Friday prayers killing at least 39 people including five security personnel and injuring 95, Geo News reported. "Thirty-nine people were killed and 95 wounded in the attacks," Inspector General Police Punjab Tariq Salim Dogar told reporters after visiting the blast site. "We have collected concrete technical evidence, which will help identify the attackers. Both the attackers were on foot," he added. Five security men were dead and 15 injured in the attack, security sources said. "There were two suicide bombers who attacked two military vehicles within the space of 15 seconds," SSP Operations Mohammad Shafiq told Geo News. "The heads of both attackers have been found," he said. Rescue workers and paramedics rushed to the R A Bazaar, a densely populated area of the city. The area was crowded as the blasts occurred shortly before the main Friday prayers were to start. Emergency has been declared in city hospitals and injured were shifted to CMH and other hospitals. Security forces have cordoned off the area and traffic was blocked. Media was not allowed to go near the scene.

A passenger aircraft has crashed on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, killing all 152 people on board. Reports suggest air traffic controllers had told the pilot to divert due to the poor weather, but lost contact with the plane shortly after. Al Jazeera's Tarek Bazely reports.

Massive anti-US rallies held in Pakistan Thousands of people have held anti-US demonstrations across Pakistan to protest an American court's verdict against a female Pakistani scientist. The protests on Friday come after a New York court sentenced 38-year-old Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years in prison. Hundreds of police officers were deployed across the capital Islamabad to stop angry protesters from marching into the US Embassy. In Siddiqui's hometown of Karachi, police fired tear gas to prevent protesters from moving towards the US consulate. In Multan, scores of activists including lawyers blocked traffic. Siddiqui has been found guilty of allegedly trying to kill FBI agents and US military service members in Afghanistan. Human rights groups argue that she was kidnapped and held in secret US prisons abroad. Political activists and Siddiqui's relatives have strongly criticized the US justice system for its handling of the case.
