Concerned about the devastation currently being inflicted on the people of Lebanon and Palestine by the Israeli Military Forces and with the very limited and biased reporting on these conflicts presented by most American media networks - students organized a teach-in on the UC Berkeley campus in order to give students faculty and the Bay Area community at large achance to gain a greater understanding of these events and to participate in an open discussion on their significance for both Americans and the people of the Middle East. During the first hour of this two-hour event four scholars with expertise in the Middle East presented short analyses - 15 minutes each - of the historical and political dimensions of this conflict focusing on the following themes. 1. The role US foreign policy has played in enabling and authorizing the Israeli bombardment 2. The origins and historical development of Hezbollah and the role of this movement within Lebanese social and political arenas 3. The shifting political alignments within Israel and their relation to the current war on Lebanon and to Israels role in the region more broadly 4. The impact of Israeli military actions in Gaza and the West Bank on the lives of Palestinians and the political landscape of the Palestinian society. The presentations were followed by audience questions and comments which is what this video is about. Speakers in the first part included Judith Butler Beshara Doumani Charles Hirschkind Saba Mahmood Zeina Zaatari The teach-in took place on September 7th 2006. Thanks to the 3-dimensional printing technology, now visually-impaired people have the chance to imagine and grasp a better understanding of what the world looks like.
One school in Japan is giving such an opportunity to its visually-impaired students with the help of 3D printing technology. One of the students had never seen a snow flake before, but the detailed model of a snow flake made it easier for him to imagine it all in his mind. The machine allows these people to imagine and understand things that are too big, too small or too dangerous to be handled. So, with just a simple press of a button, the students can choose from Japan\'s iconic Mount Fuji to a miniature elephant figure, in perfect detail and rendered in 3D.

Are Schools Sexualising Children? IPPF Exposed | The Makinations 2
The IPPF is a global NGO with hegemonic aims of spreading its sexual ideologies and imposing such ideologies on youth. Contemporary Sex Education is not merely there to teach children about the science behind sex- it is not merely teaching them about the birds and the bees- rather, the agenda is to warp the gender and sexual norms of society and to indoctrinate children as young as 5 with sexual content that will damage their psychological health as well as potentially ruin their physical health as well. The agenda is pushing to activate young minds to the adult world of sex and sexuality and parents are recognising globally that their children are being manipulated to not only accept, but also to become part of the sexual agenda we see unravelling all around us. The LGBT movement was only the beginning of something far more sinister.

Israeli Arrogance Responsible for Conflict - Beshara Doumani - English

Beshara Doumani addresses the question WHY CANT THEY GET ALONG? The answer according to him - they cant along because of decades long dispossession of one group by another which has only intensified recently. Using a number of anecdotal examples he argues that the arrogance of Israelis is responsible for the violence - the failure of many international interventions for peace - and the ongoing plight of the Palestinian people. He seems to believe in the two state solution - and was subsequently questioned on that in the QnA session. The clip is from a Berkeley Teach-in organized in Sep 2006. Saba Mahmood opens up the teach-in session with a brief overview of Lebanese politics. Talks about the increasing maturity of Lebanese politics as could be seen in the formation of political ethics of sorts and the common concern for protecting sectarian harmony. One of the primary motives - or resultant - of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006 was to damage this political process. The clip is from a Berkeley Teach-in organized in Sep 2006.

Check out this and other cool science experiments at http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/e... The Tea Bag Rocket is really an adaptation of a classic science demonstration called the Ditto Paper Rocket. Each piece of Ditto paper had a sheet of tissue paper that separated the two-part form, and it was this discarded piece of paper that kids used to make the \"rocket.\" Since Ditto paper is a thing of the past, science teachers found a simple replacement - a tea bag. Watch the video and see the floating ball of ashes.

11. Marketing has transformed itself into a sophisticated pervasive force that extends into every part of our lives. Slick advertising campaigns are designed for the express purpose of manipulating children into buying products and training them to become mindless consumers of goods they dont really want. The Nag factor a marketing study that evaluated the effect of nagging was designed to teach children how to nag more effectively. Consumers are made not born.

Charles Hirschkind sheds light on the utility of the war on terror for the US empire. He argues that - instead of targeting Al-Qaeda - the war on terror is more focused on targeting anti-imperial movements in certain Muslim countries and protecting pro-US dictatorial regimes. In a cautious tone he also emphasizes the importance of understanding the context in which violent tactics of certain resistance organizations should be understood. The viewer may not agree with everything he has to say. I for one do not. But there are some useful insights that we can surely appreciate. Zeina Zaatari starts with sharing some quotes from her interviews in Lebanon in 2001. She then presents a history of Lebanese-Israeli relationship. Argues that Hezbollah - although supported by Iran-Syria - is very much a Lebanese phenomenon. Talks about Syed Musa Sadrs involvement - formation of Amal - Syed Fadlallahs role in educational activities and his perceived connections to Hezbollah - and finally she comes to the formation of Hezbollah. Her description of Vilayate Faqih may not be fully accurate but that shouldnt distract one from the main theme of her talk. She describes Hezbollahs organizational capacity social welfare projects outreach avenues - all of which were targets of Israels bombardment in Summer 2006. She also describes the dynamics of Hezbollahs influence among its following. Although she warns against seeing these dynamics in instrumental terms - she still focuses on clientalism and does not give sufficient value to identity attachments and religious commitments of the followers among the Shias and support from well-wishers among the general Lebanese population and beyond Lebanon. Like many sura, the holy Quran here introduces a term (Al-Qaria, meaning \"the Calamity\"), and asks itself (and the reader) what it means: \"The Calamity! What is the Calamity? And what shall teach thee what is the Calamity?\". The answer is said to be a specific day, which has not yet come to pass. On that day \"men will be like scattered moths, and the mountains shall be like plucked wool\". This day is presumably the Day of Judgment. The image is of chaos and collapse, both of the social order of humanity, and of the cosmological order of the universe itself. The sura continues with this theme of balance The sura ends as it began, asking about how one will learn the meaning of the word \"the Pit\" - which is explained to be known in \"the blazing fire\" of Hell.Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) has said that the person who frequently recites this surah will be saved from the heat of hellfire. If a businessman or a person in financial difficulties keeps this surah in his possession, the doors of sustenance will be opened to him. Recitation of this surah in prayers also increases in one’s sustenance. Water in which this surah has been dissolved is useful in keeping away unwanted pests (eg. Insects and rodents).
