[23 March 2012] Syria crisis: global and domestic transformations - Middle East Today - Presstv - English
As security in Syria deteriorates with fears of more bombings, continuous fighting between the national army and rebel forces, the United Nations special envoy continues his efforts to create an agreement with the consensus of all parties.
Where can these efforts reach in light of the Syrian opposition\'s refusal of political solution? Some groups have even called for military intervention.
Will there be Arab and western efforts to exert more political and even military pressure on Assad? Will the West leave the resolution to countries like Russia and China in order to avoid a possible Cold War?

[21 July 2012] Rising protests in Saudi Arabia - English
Saudi protesters have taken to the streets in the Qatif region of Eastern Province to demand the release of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nemr al-Nemr. The demonstrators on Sunday chanted slogans against the repressive regime of Al Saud. Sheikh Nemr was attacked, injured and arrested by Saudi security forces while driving from a farm to his house in Qatif on July 8. He is currently in a military hospital in the city of Dhahran. According to Human Rights Watch, the Saudi regime "routinely represses expression critical of the government."

Israeli officials have publicly declared that the Syrian government used Chemical weapons which was followed by statements made by US secretaries of state and defense who said that the assessment was that Sarin gas was indeed used.
Syrian officials said this comes after the gains made by the Syrian army, particularly in and near Al-Qusier on the outskirts of Homs.
Russia and Iran have both come out strongly against using this as a pretext for military action. Emphasis on how this shows how much Israel wants to get rid of Assad and how much it regards him as an enemy.
Will Obama be dragged into a confrontation by Israel and its allies like the NeoCons in Washington even if he will have to face Russia, China and Iran?
Or is it that the US shares the opinion that Assad must go and might assign Israel with the task of launching military action?
An emphasis as well on the differences between the Syrian case and the Iraqi case because back then it was Dick Cheney and co who were pushing for war and even fabricated intelligence for this purpose. Now in this case it is Israel pointing to weapons of mass destruction trying to push a hesitant Obama administration into war.
In this episode of the Middle East Today, we will discuss the Syrian crisis and ask: What the future holds for Syria?

What we are witnessing on the ground in Bangladesh today is rooted several decades ago when Bangladesh originally gained its independence from Pakistan in 1971. There were many who are now called Bangladeshis, who were against getting independence from Pakistan to begin with. And now we see the battle lines still drawn, as the government has convicted several opposition members to death for their actions more than 40 years ago to prevent independence. Now the opposition is asking the government to step down, and has called a strike, as clashes have taken the lives of several Bangladeshis. Stay with us as we take a close up look at the situation in Bangladesh on this The Debate.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iranian youths were more than three decades ahead of their time when they called the former US Embassy in Tehran the den of espionage.
The Leader was addressing a group of school and university students on the occasion of the Student Day which coincides with the takeover of the former US Embassy in Tehran by revolutionary students on November 4, 1979.
“On that day, our youths named the US Embassy the \'den of espionage’ and today, after over three decades, US embassies in the European countries, which are American allies, are called nest of espionage,” said the Leader on Sunday, adding, “This shows that our youths were over 30 years ahead of the world calendar.”
“The arrogant approach taken by the US has caused nations to distrust and loathe it. Moreover, experience has shown that any nation and government that trusts the US will be harmed, even if they are friends of the US,” the Leader noted.
Ayatollah Khamenei also pointed to the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the UN Security Council\'s permanent members - Russia, China, France, the US and UK - plus Germany and defended the Iranian negotiating team against criticism.
The Leader warned that no one should undermine or insult the negotiating team or label them as being inclined toward reaching a compromise over Iran\'s nuclear energy program.
Ayatollah Khamenei stated that the negotiations will not harm the Iranian nation, but will be an experience for the nation, which will increase their analysis and thinking capacity, much like the experience of temporary suspension of uranium enrichment in 2003-2004.
The Leader once again voiced skepticism about US intentions, saying, “A smiling enemy should not be trusted.”
“I’m not optimistic about the ongoing negotiations because it is not known whether the nation will achieve its desired results. However, we believe there is no harm in such an experience provided that the nation is vigilant and knows what is going on,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Leader added, “The nuclear issue is merely a pretext and if, hypothetically, this issue is resolved with us backing down, they will find tens of other pretexts such as [Iran\'s] missile achievements, the Iranian nation’s opposition to the Zionist regime [of Israel], and the Islamic Republic’s support for the Resistance [Movement] to continue enmity with [our] beloved Iran,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader advised Iranian officials to carefully observe the statements and actions of the other side of the negotiations because “on the one hand, they smile and express willingness for dialogue, but on the other hand, they immediately say ‘all options are on the table.’”

On the 8th of December 2013 Iran\'s president Hassan Rouhani, submitted the budget draft for next Iranian fiscal year to parliament, a draft that reflects the new government\'s stance on the economy.
Hassan Rouhani has been Iran\'s president for a little more than five months. Back in June 2013 when presidential campaigning was going on, Iran\'s television network made it possible for candidates to offer the analysis of the country\'s current situation and make their case for fixing what needs fixing in other\'s presence.
And it was Hassan Rouhani who managed to win the people\'s votes with his staunch criticism of the previous administration\'s economic and foreign policies and his promise to make his government based on trust and wisdom and one that will cultivate hope.
He also vowed to turn the economy around, something he seems to have done in his first five months in office. The team he put together to make good on his economic policies, all seasoned economists and budget planners, has shown the nation that as well as talking the talk, Rouhani can also walk the walk.
Members of parliament have given the president\'s economic cabinet members the vote of confidence, even though the new administration must adhere to the economic policies of the previous one until March 2014 when Iran\'s fiscal year ends.
In this addition of the show we focus on the budget draft submitted to parliament, and what\'s been going on since it was drawn up.

Corruption in Iran-UAE Gas Agreement. What is today known as Crescent case was an agreement signed in 2001 between National Iranian Oil Company, NIOC and United Arab Emirates oil and gas company Crescent to sell the company gas. The case is now in International Hague Arbitration Tribunal for corruption. According to the signed contract, Iran was obligated to export sour gas from joint Iran-UAE oil and gas field, Salman to UAE for twenty five years. Iranian officials say that the incentive to sign the contract was signed not national interest but corruption and bribe. According to Iranian Judiciary some of the officials involved in this case have already been convicted of taking bribe in Iran\'s criminal court.

The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the Daesh Takfiri terrorism is the product of the West\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s colonialist attitude.
In a letter addressed to the youth who live in the West, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said certain powers, like the US, have been supporting terror in the Muslim world, and picking those who sponsor Takfiri terrorists as their allies. The leader said the West has thrown its weight behind its allies despite their backward political systems, while ruthlessly suppressing dynamic democracies in the region. He also indicated that recent terror attacks in Paris stemmed from wrong policies that have brought the West to an impasse. The leader added that Western mentality breeds violence with its deceitful policies, division of terrorism into good and bad, and giving priority to state interests over human values and ethics. Ayatollah Khamenei also touched on the plight of the Palestinian people slamming the West\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s double standard regarding Israel’s atrocities.

There are two types of stories: one type which you tell children so that they will sleep. And the second type, which you tell people to wake them up. Imam Asi explains the story of David & Goliath in the Qur’an and how relevant it is today. In the lead up to the coming of Imam Mahdi (A), it is absolutely necessary that we familiarise ourselves with the parables highlighted in the Holy Qur’an. Indeed, the verses of the Holy Qur’an are a potent reminder for us and a nudge to help us wake up.

Khawarij of Today | Sayyid Asad Jafri
An incredible clip highlighting the roots of ISIS/DAESH in the words of Sayyid Asad Jafri. Having the Wilayah of Imam Ali (A) in our hearts is not enough! It is not enough to simply say, \\\"I am Shia\\\" or \\\"I love Ali\\\". One must act on the path of Imam Ali (A) and get to a point where Imam Ali (A) says that he is my Shia!

Christianity Under Question! | Imam Khomeini (R)
The impression today\'s Christianity has painted in people\'s mind is that Christianity is all about LOVE, AFFECTION, and CARE etc. Yet, while we see millions of people subjected to oppression and cruelty, we find Christian authorities and scholars to be quiet! Is it not ironic? Where is that love and passion for the needy and the oppressed? Where is your support for the dying kids of Yemen; where is your support for the innocent Palestinians; where is your support for all the oppressed people of the world who are waiting for your love, affection, and care! What would Jesus do to stop the oppression?!
