The Trials of Marriage | BISKIT | English

What does having a pet cat named Mr. Tibbles have to do with marriage in Islam? Well, the short answer is nothing. Whether one has a pet cat or not should not hinder one from the divine prospect of marriage. Similarly, there are many things which Muslims take into account before deciding to marry or when selecting a spouse - the person’s skin colour, how wealthy they are, whether or not they are Sayyid… but are such things what Islam tells us to consider before marrying?
A quick disclaimer; the purpose of this episode is not to say that men should not work hard and strive to earn a halal living while saying, “I’m pious, so let me marry!”. No. It is the duty of Muslim men everywhere to work. Similarly, it is an important duty for us to study and educate ourselves.
The underlying message in this BISKIT is that FAITH ought to be given priority over all other things before we marry. Neither wealth, nor education, nor beauty, nor lineage, nor nationality are even remotely as important as faith. As Muslims we must remember that in front of faith, all the other things are as irrelevant as a pet cat named Mr. Tibbles!

An eye-opening and fruitful discussion lead by Shaykh Mahdi Taeb and Sayyid Shahryar Naqvi, two invaluable gems of the Howza system which has now been sanctioned by America … Shaykh Muzaffer Hyder has questions to ask them both which lead to a powerful talk.
Al-Mustafa International University is an international academic, Islamic university of the Holy City of Qom. Tens of thousands of students from across the globe study a vast range of subjects from Islamic sciences such as the Quran, Hadith, Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Philosophy and Discourse and Islamic Mysticism to Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Management, Persian Language and Literature. America has placed perhaps the silliest of sanctions on this vast academic institute in a hope to stop the fountain of knowledge from quenching the thirst of the masses, who deserve to learn about the Prophet and Ahlulbayt (A).

The study of clouds has always been a daydreamer’s science, aptly founded by a thoughtful young man whose favorite activity was staring out of the window at the sky. Richard Hamblyn tells the history of Luke Howard, the man who classified the clouds and forever changed humanity’s understanding of these changeable, mysterious objects.
Lesson by Richard Hamblyn, animation by Nick Hilditch.

Becoming familiar with some of the sweet concepts of the Sha’baniya Supplication
Session 1
In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful. It is very good before using, reading, thinking or whispering a supplication to God, to become familiar with the supplications’ passage in detail, become aware of its meaning and refer to the expositions on it. In these short opportunities, I will try to briefly discuss some topics to help us become familiar with this supplication. We hope the Almighty God will give us success to get the most use from this supplication.
The “Sha’baniya Supplication” starts with sending salutations on the Holy Prophet (s) and his Pure Household (‘a). According to many recommendations, which everyone has heard, and as has been mentioned in the traditions very much too, each prayer should start with salutations. This prayer has started with salutations too, like many other prayers, which have reached us. In the prayers that do not start with salutations, naturally we should send these salutations ourselves.
There are many reasons for this. I will only say one sentence about this and pass on it. It is as if when a person doesn’t have the Household of the Prophet’s guardianship, their guardianship is not in his heart, and he doesn’t remember these personages with honor, the Almighty God doesn’t hear him, won’t answer his prayer and doesn’t take this person into account. For whoever enters the Judgment Day, his/her ID is following God’s Guardians. In this case too, whoever stands in God’s presence should show his/her ID. This salutation is our identity card. If a person shows this identity card with love and devotion, says, “God, see I’m devoted to the Prophet and his Household,” hasn’t just said the salutations negligently, and has repeated this salutation with fondness, the way will open for him to pray.
In the first phrase, the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (‘a), uses three surprising words. This prayer starts without any introduction. “Hear my prayer when I call You. Hear my voice when I call You. Pay attention to me when I whisper to You.” One of the wonders of this prayer is that it starts without any introduction. This prayer is the words of a person who can’t tolerate anymore! It’s as if he has come a far distance and only wants to moan. He knows that God is waiting to hear his words, but he wants to shout at times, whisper at times and pray at times. “Hear my voice when I call you.” “Nida” means calling with a loud voice. “Pay attention to me when I whisper to You.” “Najwa” means talking in a very low voice. And “Du’a” is used for any kind of calling. Three consecutive words.
It is as if the Commander of the Faithful wants to cry out, “God, I want to talk to You!” He’s showing his insistence to whisper to God, cry out to Him and supplicate Him. He’s not saying others things. He wants, calls and invites God. The next sentence shows this. “I have escaped to You and am standing between Your hands.” “I have escaped to You” means I have escaped and come to You. It gives the same feeling that those three words had. “Hear my prayer. Hear my voice. Pay attention to me when I whisper to You.” It’s as if a person has come running. “I am now standing between Your hands.” “Between Your hands” is a more beautiful and pleasing concept than standing in front of God. It’s as if a little one has taken refuge with a great one and is in his power. This is much more beautiful. Those who are the smaller one before a greater one, and have felt the support of a kind, greater one, can understand this. “I am poor before You and I beseech You.” The Commander of the Faithful (‘a) is only beseeching in this supplication. He is expressing this with different phrases.
He is beseeching in all of his words. These words are not meaningless words for the Commander of the Faithful. These words arise from the depth of his feelings. He wants to cry intensely with these words. We study, review and even think about these words. But, these words have become internalized for the Commander of the Faithful. The Imam is not reading these words from a prayer book. These words are the interpretation of the Imam’s moans.

Coming into this world as an orphan, ʿAbdullāh ibn Abdul Muttalib died before his son, the final prophet of Allāh, Muhammad could be born. In the rough and unforgiving climate of the Arabian Peninsula, who would be there to take care of the young Muhammad? In this episode, we study who took care of, supported, protected and nurtured Prophet Muhammad when he was a young child growing up in Mecca.

The “Azemoon” is the major exam Howza students will have to face at the end of their 5-6 year tenure if they wish to continue their studies at the Howza of Qom.
The examination consists of questions that could be about any of the subject matter that has been studied so far - including Fiqh, Usool Fiqh, Sarf, Nahw, Aqa’id, Uloom Quran, and Tafseer.
It is a difficult exam which must be passed for any student who wishes to study their Masters at Al-Mustafa International.

Who are responsible for maintaining security and peace in a country?
But what does security actually mean?
And why is security absolutely essential for the progress and stability of a society?
Furthermore, what is the significance of security in our personal lives?
And, when can we go about our lives carefreely?
Additionally, is it possible to think, work, do research, or study if there is no security?
Moreover, how does insecurity hinder the progress and growth of a country?
Finally, what is the domestic security like for nations such as the United States of America?
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution – Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei – explains the importance of security in the different aspects of life, as he highlights \"The Relationship Between Security & Progress\".

Transcript:
One of the factors that expands one\'s capacity, which we discussed last night, is good manners and morals [akhlaq], especially at home and with one\'s family. The Holy Prophet (s), who had the most and highest level of capacity, had the best etiquette of all creation. In this regard, his (s) capacity was great.
May God have mercy on Shaheed Beheshti. In his memoirs, he writes that I asked Imam Khomeini, \"During the time when you were young in Qom, who taught the class on etiquette and morals [akhlaq]?\" Imam Khomeini said that when I was young, there was no class on etiquette and morals [akhlaq]. There were individuals who embodied good etiquette and morals, who we learned from them through their actions.
No one sat and taught good etiquette and morals [akhlaq] in a class. There were individuals who embodied good akhlaq. Individuals like Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, whose entire conduct and behaviors embodied good akhlaq. I will give you one example. Notice how if someone were to see this, for the rest of their life, they would not forget it.
One day, it was raining, and it had rained very much. At that time, Qom had dirt roads, not asphalt roads- so when it rained, the streets would become muddy. Once a seminary student was passing through one of these streets. He was moving quickly in order to make it in time for his lesson. [As he was walking], he stepped in a muddy pit, and one of his shoes got stuck inside the muddy pit. He limped over to a wall and stood their one-legged wondering what he would do now. At that moment, Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi, the great marja\' taqlid who truly was a great man. He was also elderly. From his place of study, which was in a mosque close by, Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi came out and saw this seminary student standing with one leg while his shoe was stuck in the mud. He took off his own shoes and put it on the foot of the seminary student. He told him wear this and go to your lesson. This seminary student was shocked and said, \"Agha, I will think of something to do.\" Ayatollah Abdul Karim Haeri Yazdi without any shoes said, \"No, my home is close by. I will go home and wash my feet. You go to your studies.\"
Now look at this, for this eldery maraj\' taqlid to have an interaction like this with a youth, this is better than a thousand lessons of akhlaq given verbally. In fact, etiquette and morals [akhlaq], gnosticism [irfan], training and education [tarbiyat], before they are to be read about in books or heard in lectures, they must be seen. A person must see someone who is like this, not just hear about it or read about it in books. They must see someone like this.
Allamah Majlesi, may God be pleased with him, who compiled the \"Bihar al-Anwar\" and was a great person- on Thursday nights, he used to gather his family and speak to them for 30 minutes. He would tell them a narration [hadith], give them admonishments and advice, tell them some Islamic rulings, and recite a eulogy. He would speak to them for 30 minutes. But this Allamah Majlesi, who would speak to them for 30 minutes, he would act on these for an entire week. When his children would see his actions, akhlaq, kindness, compassion, and honesty, his 30 minutes of speaking had a deep effect within the depths of their being.
I will never forget this. There was a successful mother who lived in Tehran. She had four children who each of them was better, nobler, more religious, and more respecful than the next. They were also very educated. They asked this successful mother that how were you able to raise such good kids? Nowadays, parents don\'t have much influence over their children. It is truly like this. So they asked this successful mother that how did you raise such good kids? She said something very wise. She said that whatever I wanted my children to become, I myself practiced. That which I wanted my children to be, I myself became it.
