WIIRE and Masumeen Islamic Centre (MIC) hosted a successful Muslim Unity Seminar on January 18th 2015 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.). The topic of the seminar was “The Noble Prophet (S.A.W.) and the Muslim Ummah” Speakers from Sunni Muslim and Shia Muslim enlightened the participants with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and the importance of Muslim Unity. The objective of the Muslim Unity is to create an environment of collaboration and communication among Muslim organizations on issues of interest to Muslim Canadians nationally as well as on the international front. In addition to the eloquent speeches, the seminar also had spoken words and poetry and they were very inspirational. The spoken words and poetry propagated the message of harmony, hope, spirituality, unity and cooperation in an intellectual and creative way. The Muslim Unity seminar ended with participants holding hands of each other and reciting Dua-e-Wahdat (supplication for Unity) among the Muslim Ummah.

Hundreds of Canadians gathered together at the Islamic Society of York Region to honour the great leader who overthrew a dictator and brought about a revolution with the help of the majority of the Iranian nation. Speaking at the conference, world renowned speakers, praised Imam Khomeini\'s awakening of the masses against global injustice. Prior to the revolution, the multi-national corporations were exploiting the natural resources of Iran with the help of a very small and corrupt group of traitors. Any protest against the dictator, Reza Shah Pehalavi, was brutally suppressed by the barbaric forces of Savak, which committed atrocious crimes against the population. After the revolution, Iran has progressed by every measure, including women literacy, scientific growth and division of wealth. For the crime of liberating his country and insisting on Iranian resources to be used for the welfare of the Iranian population, Imam Khomeini bore the wrath of the multi-national corporations, the western media and the selected group of Iranians who were accomplices in the criminal exploitation of the resources and had to run away from the country after the revolution. Speakers at the conference also spoke about how Imam Khomeini inspired the oppressed masses around the world that started a global movement for dignity and self-determination.

On December 30th, 2015, activists and concerned Canadians assembled in front of the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa to protest the mass murder and genocide of innocent Muslims in Zaria, Nigeria. The rally began with numerous chants condemning the genocide and unjust detention of Shaikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The protesters displayed their fury and anger toward the Nigerian army that on one hand failed to release the abducted girls from Boko Haram while on the other hand were busy killing innocent Muslim\'s citizen. Protesters young and old stood strong in the harsh weather conditions standing up for the rights of humanity. Human right activists and people of conscious assembled outside US consulate on Sunday 3rd January 2016 to condemn and mourn Sheikh Baqir al-Nimr’s illegitimate execution by the Saudi regime. The rally began with Quran recitation followed by chants condemning the Saudi monarchy, their US master and Canadian government for exporting arms to the Saudi government. The spoken word by the youths highlighted the brave and courageous, non-violent stand of Sheikh Nimr against corruption of Saudi rulers and human rights violation. The speech by the religious scholar questioned the false accusation of terrorism against Sheikh Nimr, despite the fact that Sheikh Nimr always supported the roar of the words against authorities rather than weapons. Human right activist highlighted the influence of US imperialism and Zionism on the Saudi monarchy. Protestor’s young and old stood strong in the harsh weather condition holding placard that read, “The tyrant dies and his rule is over, the martyr dies and his rule begins”.
