This is not at all surprising. This is WHY the US reacted so badly to the Russians stopping the Georgians shelling South Ossetia. When asked if an attack on South Ossetia was a prelude to an attack on Iran the State Duma Deputy said We know that this war in South Ossetia is somehow connected with the aggression of Washington against Iran and the possible bombing of Iran.

Australian officials are warning that wildfires in New South Wales could merge to create a mega-fire.
They say 58 blazes are still alight in the state, with over a dozen reportedly out of control. A thick white smoke haze is now threatening Sydney. People have been warned to stay indoors and avoid exercising. A state of emergency has been declared in New South Wales since yesterday. Temperatures are expected to rise which will make firefighting more difficult. Hot and dry winds are also expected to intensify in the coming days. The bushfires that started on Thursday have caused massive damage in the Blue Mountains area. More than 200 homes have been destroyed and thousands of people forced out of their their homes. Firefighters say this is the most serious wildfire emergency in 40 years.

South Asian rights groups have called for a boycott of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar unless the Persian Gulf state improves conditions for migrant construction workers. Migrant workers, mostly from South or Southeast Asia, suffer alarming levels of exploitation. There are many reports of non-payment of wages and hazardous working conditions. Qatar is currently in the middle of a construction boom meant to prepare the gas-rich nation for the world\'s most popular sporting event. Amnesty International has also censured Qatar over its mistreatment of migrant construction workers, describing their conditions as deplorable.

Nelson Mandela, the revered icon of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa and one of the towering political figures of the 20th century, has died at the age 95. Mandela was South Africa\'s first black president after spending nearly three decades in prison.
In this debate we will discuss his legacy, and its impact, and whether it would translate to changes, like on the lives of oppressed Palestinians in the occupied territories, a form of apartheid exercised by Israel.

In December 1961, South Africa\'s anti-Apartheid movement entered a new-phase of resistance; it took up arms... Among the key minds behind this militant response was Nelson Mandela.
Advil November was a personal body guard of Mandela after his release and is a former member of the ANC\'s Military wing Umkhonto we Sizwe or Spear of the Nation... MK targets included petrol stations, railway lines and in one of its most successful attacks a power substation. Now MK had also planned an attack on one of the main fuel refineries here in Cape Town. And the hope was that had that attack been successful, it would not only have brought the SA economy to a standstill, but it would also have allowed prisoners on Robben Island about 7 km offshore an opportunity to see the attack as the refinery went up in flames.November remembers Mandela as a particularly revolutionary figure. When South Africa became a democracy in 1994, most MK soldiers were incorporated into the army. November argues that suggestions that SA will descend into anarchy now that Mandela has died is a construct of the imperialists, saying that those who fought for their freedom understand peace best.

The United Nations is warning that it\\\'ll investigate reports of crimes against humanity in South Sudan.
The warning comes after eyewitnesses unveiled a wave of brutal ethnic killings. UN chief Ban Ki-moon says all those responsible for the killings will face the consequences. He has asked the Security Council to nearly double the size of the UN mission in South Sudan. Since nearly a week ago, the country has been hit by deadly fighting between government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president, Riek Machar. According to official estimates, 500 people have lost their lives in the week long conflict. But independent sources believe the real figure to be higher.

Russia went into Georgia to essentially deliver a message. There are more than 1000 US military special forces in Georgia doing exercising training Georgian troops before Georgia launched the attack on Ossetia on 8 August. There are 1000 Israeli troops at least private security firms and military advisors including advisors who are upgrading the Georgian air force in an installation near Tbilisi. That is what the Russian airplanes hit and they essentially made the military strike on South Ossetia militarily impossible by making incursions inside Georgian territory before they announced that they were calling a halt to their military operations.

New Zealand and its South Island city of Christchurch were struggling to get back to normal on Thursday, two days after an earthquake which killed at least 76 people, injured hundreds more. Police said up to 120 bodies may still be inside one of the buildings hardest hit by New Zealand's devastating earthquake. That number is not included in the official death toll of 76, which is based on the bodies recovered and brought to a temporary morgue in the stricken city of Christchurch.

[11 June 2012] Israel has long history of racial discrimination - English
African migrants have been the target of violent attacks by Israeli protesters in the past few weeks, while new legislation allows for the detention of migrants without charge.
On June 3, Tel Aviv announced that migrants who illegally crossed into Israel could face a detention of up to three years. According to the Israeli interior ministry statistics, about 60,000 African immigrants, mainly from Sudan, South Sudan and Eritrea, have entered Israel illegally.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Abayomi Azikiwe, director of Pan-African News Wire, to further discuss the issue.
