The United Nations is warning of a looming catastrophe in Somalia, where every third child is suffering from acute malnutrition because of drought and hunger. The countryside is barren, and thousands of nomads are crossing the country on foot to get aid in Mogadishu, the capital, as the Horn of Africa region faces its worst drought in six decades. At least two people have been killed in a US drone strike in Somalia. The drone fired a missile at a car traveling in the outskirts of Jilib, a town south of the capital Mogadishu. Witnesses say the victims were al-Shabab fighters. The US has stepped up its drone activities in the country, saying it\'s targeting the fighters. Somalia is witnessing yet another day of deadly violence. A car blast in the capital has left at least two people dead. A lawmaker identified as Warsame Faysal and a driver were killed in the blast that rocked the entrance of the presidential palace in Mogadishu. Witnesses say the explosives were planted under the car and went off when the driver got into it. Violence in Somalia has been on the rise ahead of the elections in January. On Thursday, a vehicle packed with explosives rammed into two pick-up trucks carrying Marine Forces in a busy market area in the northern Puntland region, leaving nine people dead and nearly 40 others injured.

In southern Somali town of Jowhar, hundreds of families and farmers have been displaced after a river burst its banks in Middle Shabelle region. Those highly affected are the internally displaced persons. Many villages and farms have remained under water as sanitation system has collapsed. Through its training centers in Mogadishu, Iran has assisted Somali women by offering them training in the fields of tailoring and use of computers.
