The streets in Toronto and around the world were abuzz with the slogans of “Shame Shame USA”, “Shame Shame israel” and “From the river to the sear, Palestine will be free”. The Al-Quds rally in Toronto was attended by Jews, Christians, Muslims and supporters of peace and justice from all walks of life. Addressing the rally, the Jewish speakers pointed out that a large number of Jews oppose Zionism and the war crimes committed by the state of israel in the name of Judaism. The Jewish law does not allow for illegal occupation of land, mass incarceration of men, women and children and forced expulsion of the indigenous Christian and Muslim Palestinians from their homes. Other speakers vowed to defeat efforts by the state of israel to silence the condemnation of its crimes against humanity by accusing the protestors of anti-Semitism. They pledged to work together with the Jews, who oppose the racist and inhumane policies of israel , to give a voice to the voiceless Palestinians. Many of the attendees pointed out that Canadians, Americans, French or citizens of any other country will never accept if the Zionist came to their land and tried to expel them forcibly from their homes by claiming that they are the chosen people and their god has gifted the land to them. Human rights activists have condemned a new counter-terrorism law in Saudi Arabia. They say the law allows the kingdom to prosecute as a terrorist anyone who demands reform, exposes corruption or engages in dissent. The new law grants security services sweeping powers to track phone calls and raid homes without prior approval from a judge or even a superior. Human Rights activists say the law is aimed at keeping the kingdom\'s ruling al Saud firmly in control amid demands for democratic reforms. Saudi Arabia has adopted heavy handed tactics against pro-reform calls that have grown louder since the pro-democracy protests shook the region in 2011. Large numbers of Saudi dissidents have been put behind bars.

Human rights groups in Egypt have condemned a new law on protests, saying it will restrict the right to peaceful assembly. Based on the new law, which was signed by the interim President Adly Mansour, protesters will have to receive permission from police in advance before staging any protests. The new law comes only days after the interim government allowed security forces to enter university campuses without prior permission. Meanwhile, Egyptian students have once again taken to the streets in the capital Cairo to demand an end to the military rule. Demonstrators were marking 100 days since security forces broke up sit-ins calling for ousted president Mohamed Morsi\'s reinstatement. The ensuing violence left hundreds dead. Tensions in Egypt have been running high since Morsi was ousted by the military in early July.

All around the world, citizens are coming together in front of US diplomatic office to speak out against Trump\'s unilateral and illegal recognition of Jerusalem. Trump administration’s plans run counter to longstanding international consensus. It is a major violation of many United Nations Security Council resolutions) and the principles of international law, which consider all Israeli actions and laws aimed at changing the legal and historical status of East Jerusalem null and void. These resolutions ban the establishment of diplomatic missions, the transfer of embassies or the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. These resolutions consider East Jerusalem as an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967. Any recognition of the city of Jerusalem as the capital of the occupying power, the establishment of any diplomatic mission in Jerusalem or its transfer to the city is a violation of International law and the Fourth Geneva Convention On November 30, 2017, the UN General Assembly last week voted overwhelmingly that “any actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever.” The rally is important said organizers not only because of the Trump Administration decision, but because, Canada was one of just six countries that voted against this resolution on Jerusalem. Canadians have clearly spoken that the Canadian government is out of line with public opinion when it comes to Palestine. In a March 2017 EKOS poll, Canadians indicated they believe overwhelmingly that sanctions are a reasonable way for Canada to censure countries violating international law and human rights, and a strong majority of Canadians believe that government sanctions on Israel would be reasonable. The message is that the Canadian government’s decision not to follow the US example is not enough. Canada has an obligation to condemn the actions of the US government based on Article 1 of the Geneva Convention which requires that Canada \"ensure compliance\" with the Geneva Convention by other High Contracting Parties.\" This makes it essential that the Canadian government issue a clear statement condemning the action of the US government, and to publicly and diplomatically oppose all foreign embassies in Jerusalem. Speakers were from the Palestinian and Arab communities, the United Church of Canada, the Muslim community, the Jewish community, labour, the Canadian Federation of Students (Ontario), the Christian Peacemaker Teams, Solidarity Against Fascism Everywhere, Canadian Peace Congress, and others who stand for justice and international law. Over 40 groups endorsed today’s emergency action to speak against the move for a Israeli exclusive Jerusalem, and for a universal city where all are welcome.

French lawmakers approve burqa ban French lawmakers have ratified a legislation to prohibit women from wearing face-covering veils despite right activist saying such a law violates personal and religious freedoms. The Senate voted 246 to 1 in favor of the bill, which has already cleared the lower chamber, the National Assembly, reported AFP. The law will come into effect if the Constitutional Council does not question its legality. Muslims argue that the legislation is going to discriminates against France's Muslim population, which is already facing rising level of Islamophobia. Once in place, the law will allow authorities to arrest and fine those women who defy the ban. A woman who continues wearing veils will receive a fine of EUR 150 (USD 195) or a course of citizenship lessons. A man who forces a woman to go veiled will be fined EUR 30,000 and imprisonment. France is home to the largest Muslim population among the 27 European Union member states. Nearly 10 percent of the 62 million people living in French is Muslim. In June, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) unanimously voted against any general ban against burqa or niqab in Europe, saying Muslim women should be free to choose their clothing. The military-backed government in Egypt is planning to ratify a draft law on combating terrorism. The interim government wants to put the law into effect before the upcoming trial of Egypt\'s ousted president Mohamed Morsi on November 4th. The government expects potential unrest during the trial and fears that the mandatory expiry of the state of emergency laws in mid-November will pave the way for more protests. The curfew was imposed following the brutal crackdown against Morsi supporters at Rabaa and Nahdah and the ensuing violence.
