Refugees in the Gaza Strip which is home to the largest Palestinian refugee population in the Middle East held a rally to mark the Nakba Day. The day of catastrophe or Nakba marks the expulsions of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees of their homes prior to the creation of Israel on their lands in 1948. They were displaced from Palestine and lost their land and property. Six decades down the road, Palestinian refugees are scattered in camps in the West bank and Gaza Strip, or in neighboring countries like Jordan, Syria, Lebanon or elsewhere, but they are still holding fast to their Palestinian identity and right of return. In December of 1948, the UN General Assembly resolution 194 called for the return of all Palestinian refugee’s to their homeland. Israel refused to implement the resolution and instead legislated in 1950 The Law of Return that gives all Jews around the world the right to emigrate to and settle in Israel. Israel, which was violently created on occupied Palestinian lands in May 1948, has continued to fight and suppress the Palestinian culture and identity. Representatives of Palestinian refugees met with the United Nations representative in Gaza demanding the implementation of the UN resolutions concerning refugees’ right of return. Annual rallies such as this one unite Palestinians as they struggle with six decades of suffering. A Conference for Palestine refugees was held in Gaza titled United for Return to mark the 65th anniversary of the Palestinian catastrophe or Nakba. As the Israeli blockade enters its seventh year, Palestinians in Gaza see no end in sight to their never-ending plight. Over one-point-seven-million Gazans continue to suffer as Tel-Aviv maintains a tight grip on the coastal enclave, allegedly for security reasons. Press TV\'s Ashraf Shannon reports from Gaza.

Continued Egyptian crackdown on tunnels between the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula has caused prices of goods to increase. Under the choking Israeli blockade, tunnels are considered as a lifeline for over 1.7 million Gazans. Tunnels are used as pathways to bring in badly needed supplies into Gaza including cement and fuel. Hamas says the recent Egyptian move will increase the suffering in the coastal enclave. People are seen standing in line for hours just to get few liters of fuel for their cars and electrical generators. Egypt\'s campaign on the tunnels began in March with the flooding of underground passages. The temporary reopening of the Rafah crossing is not enough to meet the needs of the Gaza Strip\'s one-point-seven-million-strong population. Thousands of Gazans are currently stranded in the impoverished coastal enclave. Press TV\'s Ashraf Shannon reports from Gaza.

Thirteen years ago British Gas drilled the Gaza Marine-1 and Gaza Marine-2 wells, thirty kilometers off the coast of Gaza. The drilling led to the discovery of a massive natural gas field: with 1.4 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves. In 2011 Tel-Aviv authorized the U.S-based Noble Energy, a crude oil and gas exploration giant, to begin developing the field. But the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) says the offshore field belongs to the Palestinians. Because of the Israeli blockade, Palestinians don\'t have enough cooking gas in the coastal enclave. They aren\'t allowed to develop or tap into their own gas fields either. Trade unions in the Gaza Strip have held a demonstration at the Rafah crossing against Egyptian military restrictions. A years-long Israeli blockade of the coastal enclave has only gotten worse after the Egyptian military started to crack down on underground tunnels near the Gaza border.
